Yeah a buddy of mine compared him to Capt. Sobel from Band of Brothers the other day. He may be an SOB but he made the majority of the players under him better.
Sobel was a buffoon who bullied people under him and used their success to make himself look good. Kubrick would be a better comparison. He was competent and made people better for the sake of the cause.

The end justifies the means. Scotty coached that way. I like Tortorella, the way he handles himself with media and he coaches to win. He does the best he can with what he has. Trotz is that style coach as well, it's why these gentlemen keep getting jobs. I also really liked that Tampa era, they had a good team. We'll soon see how much John affected Marty's coaching style and how he draws off that experience. Go Habs Go!
I think he's referring to the hotel thing. If I'm not mistaken Bowman did that for all four (76-79) Cups. Don't think Bowman ever fought with players. He was pretty controlled emotionally.@@daveyboy_

Don't get me wrong though, I do think scouting even today is still some trash for the most part, but guys smarter than I are the ones in charge of it so I won't tell them they're doing their job straight up wrong 😂

The reason why Tortz style no longer works is that there is no Vinny around to step up to him Its a simple fact that the game has gone soft for a vast majority of players. Only the winners understand the difference between playoff hockey and the regular season.

Torts reminds me of the late Pat Burns when it comes to coaching. Their no nonsense tough guy approach puts the players on their heels when they first come in. That usually leads to short term success but then the message and style wears thin on the players and they tune them out.
They should just let the players beat some sense into him. Just imagine how bad an NHL player would kick that grumpy old mans ass? It boggles my mind how he keeps getting contracts being so poison.
