    It was an SAE power cord, one went to a radar detector, and a shift light that he never hooked to an RPM signal. Some people also hook up small screens with a rear view camera to display so they don’t have to run mirrors.

      @@RKMotorsports That particular cord is for heated riding gear. I ran the same stuff when i commuted on my bike. The jacket plugs in to the cord and the gloves plug into the jacket

    Pro-Tip use a wire-mesh over your oil bucket to catch any bolts and screws you don't want them falling into dirty oil.

      @@chriscs9080 Could of just went to any hardware store and made something work with actual bolts , depending on what type of coated bolts you get they cost in the cents or by weight... Could of found something else that worked and looked better

      Thank you! Each bike has it's own surprises and hidden damages once I start taking them apart, but that is what adds to the uniqueness of rebuilding each one!

    FYI - that oil filter which gave you a hard time - it was one from K&N which has a hex head on top of it which is meant to be used for extraction of the filter by a ratchet or a wrench ;-)

      Heh heh ... a hex head ... but, who has a racthet? Gota love K&N and all the other cool manufacturers that either hex head, or reverse so a socket extension fits! I hate shops that put them on so tight!

      @@gustavodomingues6929 Nice guy who clearly didn't know anything about bikes and hadn't run it in years... all it really needed was a back wheel, a new battery, and the exhaust plugged. (it was cracked in half)

    i also got a motorcycle, had 2 1980 yamaha xs650 because i wanted an old bike, had to sadly sell them since my dad said no, moved out, purchased a 1977 kawasaki kz650, and man, this project is what im lovin, just finished the electronics, working on the oil, getting new gaskets for everything, break lines, valves, forks and everything. sat for 10 years between 2 rotting trailers not running, no gas, no rust in the 2 gas tanks i got. its by far gonna be a fun winter project for me personally. the 2 yamaha xs650 were to easy with carb cleans, and i just wasnt attached to it as much as i am attached to this kz650.

    For stuck oil filters just stick a screwdriver right through it and use it to lever on , your going to replace it anyway .

    That cable is for a slow charger like an optimate. It's wired to the battery so you can trickle charge it as and when required without having to removed seat/ battery etc.

    For broken bolts, get a pneumatic engraving pen. The high frequency vibes will absolutely roll out a broken fastener that hammer and punch doesn't touch.

    You need a bench!! It is so easy to accidentally stand on a part or piece of fairing and the resulting damage can be very costly. Also, consider investing in a hydraulic ramp - they save all that bending down (your back will thank you when you get older) and makes working on bikes so much more enjoyable. Having said that, a great job and I always enjoy your videos.

      I second the stolen recovered/salvage auctions. You'd be surprised with how cheap they go. There isn't as much demand as cars and you can pick up a bargain at the right time.

      Yeah thats what I was figuring, I have seen it a ton in the past where either the longer bolts are left in there or the bolts are completely removed.

    That wire thing is most likely a battery tender so the battery doesn’t die when sitting the led light is to show if it’s charged and the thing dangling by the radiator it’s to plug it into a wall mounted box that regulates the charge when parked for ages

    As a tip, it's not a good idea to squirt threadlock (or any liquid) into a threaded recess. It's a good way to crack the aluminium as the bolt tries to compress the liquid.

    Nice. Some things that I think would take the work/output to the next level:
    - Torque the bolts to spec
    - Use loctite on the bolts
    - Use standard bolts (the frame bolt)
    - Wear disposable gloves

      You forgot
      -clean the bike before you start so you arent working on a filthy heap
      -clean things as you go, instead of putting new fairings over dirty headers
      - service the brake calipers, lube pivot points, copperslip bolts, try to make the bike better than you found it

    22:00 that's a kit camera for bikes, usally the LCD is in the front near to clocks and the camera under tail light. that way we don't have the need to look to the mirrors on both sides to check the rear. The cam covers a 180 degree view.

      I hear ya, but I think most people watching are probably like me...I think. We are looking to pick up some tips and tricks from a pro tech. The entertainment comes from learning while watching a cool bike getting rebuilt. Plus you're really good and conveying information in an interesting way. I started watching the abandoned moto vlog cuz the WR250R, and ended up watching the whole thing. Usually I can't stand moto vlogs, but yours was definitely interesting.
      Anyway, I'm just some guy in the comments speaking from no experience except watching, what do I know lol. Thanks again for the great content. Looking forward to the next episode.

    I believe the cable loom you remove are laser jammer cables. And if I am not mistaken, the control unit is still in the bike under rear seat cowl.

    Sometimes aluminium bolts are used on exposed parts, so they fail in a crash rather then caused damage to what they are connected too.

You would be surprised by how cheap you can get a used not working or broken motorcycle scooter for. I bought a Tao Tao scooter for $50 not running been sitting up for years and all it needed was a new Carb and battery..

      You can always have a glass maker make a new piece for it so it doesnt crack again head the plastic up till the glue weakens pull the plastic out and carefully replace it with a glass piece

    to change an oil filter i just hammer a screw driver through the filter and unscew it like that if it's too hard to come off

    The filter was a K&N - they all havean 11/16" - or 17mm nut and through hole. The thru hole is for track day safety wiring but the 17mm / 11/16" is for removing the filter with a socket or wrench.

      Unfortunately the nut was stripped on that oil filter so I wasn't able to use that to remove it…

    The cables were a battery tender cable you leave it plugged in like that and when you park your bike for the winter/off season you leave your bike plugged in so the battery doesn’t drain and die

    I love your channel man. I watch these rebuilds EVERY day. And I've used a bunch of them to rebuild my Suzuki gsx600f katana. It was absolute junk when I bought it,only thing nice was it's fairings and motor. I hand rebuilt the entire bike and I owe all my knowledge too you. I really hope I become a bike mechanic this year,I've been working so hard at studying and learning it these past 6 years

    Stab a long screwdriver through the oil filter. A bit messy but lots of leverage to get it going.

    Lol those oil filters are super easy to over tighten because of the socket head! That was the oil leak issue on my cbr I bought.

    Incas eanyone is interested a 06 R6 that is not of the new shape is actually identical to a 2004 R6 the 2005 R6 had USD gold forks and improvements all over but what we are seeing here is actually a 2004 bike that Yamaha wanted to move alongside the new shape 2006.

    The K&N oil filter has a 17mm "nipple" to tighten or loosen it from the motor. No need for oil filter straps but also not an excuse to overtighten the oil filter neither.
