The crazy thing about watching this back is my change in attitude. After a few tweaks and conversations about positive mindset, you can really see the shift! It’s like watching 2 different golfers within the same round.
Great round, Sam! If you are working on your swing, fixing the right-hand elbow on the backswing will change your game. One pro lesson, and it's done. I had the same swing style and got far more speed and consistency after my right arm elbow stopped "chicken" winging on the back swing.
Great video again Matt. Honestly your insights always resonate so much it feels like you’re talking to me! I’m playing off 11 and can have little glimpses of low handicap golf. And you’re right the lost shots are always silly things like not committing to a shot. Or losing shots inside wedge range. This gives me so much hope that I’m not far off. Thanks Playa! 👍🏻
This is really instructive and validating! Sam is a good player, and I see where we share some of those mental tendencies, especially early on in his round. A 6 HDCP, I played Carnoustie in May last year, and had one of my best 9 holes of my Scotland trip with a very solid 38 on the front 9. Unfortunately I 3-putted 10 and that set me on a negative frame of mind - and then when I got a bad break on #13, that began a string of 4 straight doubles :( Fortunately, I got my head on straight for 17 and 18 and parred them both for a 44 on the inward 9, for a total of 82. I would have taken that if offered at the start, but what could have been! You are 100% correct on being positive - that is always my biggest struggle. Really need to shake off making a mistake or suffering a bad break, and it's amazing what can happen with a positive plan and attitude!
I feel like this is me. I'm currently a high 13 handicap, but know I'm better than that. Similar to The King's round, it's the double bogeys that do me in, otherwise I feel like I have a chance at 0.5+ strokes a hole. I can get really negative on bad shots, but feel like I move past them quickly, but it probably hurts my confidence in my swing even if I don't realize it. As always, love the video
I won a GPS watch in my first ever tournament. It makes the game so much more enjoyable. Before you drop 5 grand on new clubs to improve your game, spend a few bucks on a watch and be amazed.
Love your videos! I am a 14 handicap and am setting a goal to become a 9 handicap this year. I track statistics here are mine: Avg Score: 85 | Fairways: 55% | GIR: 27% | # Pars: 7 | # Putts: 32 | # 1 Putts: 5 | #3 Putts: 1 | # Penalties: 2 I normally play golf twice a week but don't practice too much. To reach my goal: 1. How much would you recommend practicing per week? 2. How often should I play golf per week? 3. How should I structure my practicing (putting strategy, chipping strategy, etc.)?
Play 2-3 times a week Go beyond those stats. Ask questions why bogey’s and double and triple happened. What was the shot that led to bad score. How can you stop those? Practice inside 50 yards including chipping pitching putting bunkers for 3 hours for every one hour of the long game. Get rid of penalties by finding the pattern of what you’re doing to make those penalties. Then stop doing those things. Do something better. Practice missing the green in better places for more up and downs. You probably need shorter approaches into greens too so you miss in a tighter radius around the hole. So on certain holes, you need to have shorter approaches. Strategize to find more pars
How in the world does a guy who does you tube golf and claim to be a 10 hdcp NOT understand front/middle/back distances and have the tech to go along with it? I mean, a range finder? Mind blown really. I mean it wasn’t this cat’s first trip round the golf course…
You can get to a 10 handicap using only the yardage stakes, not even knowing your correct distances - that is how a lot of people are stuck at 10 handicap. Then they discover their true carry and drop 5 shots off their handicap. I see it often.
I am a 7.7 handicap according to my GHIN index with all my scores posted and shoot in the 90s sometimes. I don't think it's unbelievable that he could be a 10.
As much as i can understand him gripping down, on a course as long as carnoustie (or should i say carnasty) i feel like him trying to drive it a bit further would benefit in terms of shorter approaches to greens. Hitting a hard fade can sometimes lead to those high spinny shots that end up hurting you distance wise. On such a tight track where you arent always hitting FIR the trade off might be worthwhile
He swings lightly because he has to. His weight distribution is so far forward that as soon as he adds power to the swing, the massive early extension he’s hiding will flare up.
What’s that old saying? Focus on the results you want, not the ones you don’t. Any 10 handicapper should be able to improve their self coaching around the course. Nice to see a greener Carnoustie, I played there in July’22 and it was rather brown.
Never mind, you explained it. @golfsidekick when you were showing him how to read the distance on the last hole, what device were you using? Thank you.
Mmm I’m off 10 and I cannot believe he “actually” plays off 10 ie around gross 80 and doesn’t know his club mapping nor the distances he is trying to hit, in fact his lack of awareness of distance in both respects is baffling !
honestly i'd take hanna holden over grace or paige. sure the other two are funner to look at, but i'm tired of barbie doll overlyglossed girls. plus hanna takes it more seriously in her videos, and actually is 100% natural......atleast i hope so

your swing is gorgeous bro. Im also around a 10 handicapper and my swing looks dog water compared to yours 😂

"The golf swing is not Grace Charis its Paige. Take your time." Had me in stitches.
You're killing me with the Grace Charis / Paige reference!
Just the Baus educating another golfing disciple, love it - this is why you're the best golf channel on UA-cam 👏👌

same, it gets to me also a little bit. Really have been working on driver since my short game out weighs driver by ALOT.

That driver grip is wild.

Made my own Takoma set, best clubs I've ever had. Mizuno for less. Thoroughly recommended.
Missed your calling as a caddie....great job with Sam the King!
Quality video as per, the king has the smoothest swing
How do you get these wild differences in your voiceover voice lol? This one is my favorite
Such a bro giving out the food review. Ty.

😂 my point today was exactly that 😮
Yeah, sorta BS. It’s like I’m a ‘10’ but I don’t understand front/middle/back distances and/or use any modern tech to play golf? Anyway, moving on.
You can get to a 10 handicap using only the yardage stakes, not even knowing your correct distances - that is how a lot of people are stuck at 10 handicap.

I’m 7.7 too. I can do low 70’s often, but just as easily rack up a 90. So solid with the driver off the tee, this guy is easily a 10
Jean Van de Velde knows best how to play #18 at Carnousti.
Gonna keep that tip about swinging to a slower tempo at 4:30

Great vid! I noticed The King would choke down on all his woods - is that help make it easier to make better contact with a "shorter" club? Cheers
Had to be for the wind, grip down to keep it low
Looks like he chokes down on every club. Although baseball grip maybe makes it seem more choked down than it actually is.
Be kind to yourself gents! On & off the course⛳️
Had to look up Grace Charis, now my wife wants to know what the Only Fans charge on our card is. 😮 told her is was golf instruction. 😅
I’ll pretend I don’t know who Grace Charis is :)
Why do you choke down so far on the grip? For better control?
Good one Playa.
I need the playa to come open my closet.
Miss you playa!!
Great video, love your content!
He swings lightly because he has to. His weight distribution is so far forward that as soon as he adds power to the swing, the massive early extension he’s hiding will flare up.
LOLLL "... that causes me to smash as fast and hard as possible. The golf swing is not Grace Charis, it's Paige. Take your time" 💀💀
The First Hole Tuba 📯📯📯😂😂😂
Wondering if there is a reason he is gripping down so much with the driver, bottom hand is off the grip?
I fell in love with Kings swing
Why does he grip so down on his clubs?
I'm a 9 handicap and unfortunately my irons are my problem. Short game is saving me time and time again.
might be time for a fitting or lesson
Typical ! I guess he’s 18 hdcp but he took the advice and become a much better player. Great video!
Bet ya can’t teach me scratch golf in one round! (I am a 27 handicap)
so uhhh first time breaking 90 i shot an 81 somehow, all i did was putt and chip for a week every day for a few hours
Boom exactly
Very likely going to pick up a set of Takomo irons next season: +1 hdcp, let's go
Hey Baus, can I schedule a round with you?
Pencil me in for Nov. 2026?
ALL OF US, could benefit from your management skills👍🏻
Closet 4 handicap is a bit of a stretch.
You need vision to play this game
The golf swing is not Grace, it's Paige .... unreal line
Youll make it to scratch chief! 0.2 handicap
His swing is so patient, and he has an athletic move.
Predictably handicap 4.4
I don’t swing hard. I swing fast with a cadence. I can’t baby my driver because it’ll bark at me if I do.
Hogans alley got him
It’s always a Ho
This time Gansalley
3.3

It’s a shame that I understand the grace charis reference
Who’s next, DOD King?
What’s that
@@GolfSidekick this kid that calls himself the DOD King. “Driver off the deck”. He has a UA-cam channel. His bit is that he never uses T’s..
I Feel Happy for him
He sets up with his feet for a draw?
I'm a legit 10 handicap and Sam's a *way* better ball striker! Tons of potential to go lower
Why does the commentator not sound like Matty?
why is he gripping it on the graphite?
He likes it
why is his hands so chocked up on the clubs?
Never mind, you explained it. @golfsidekick when you were showing him how to read the distance on the last hole, what device were you using? Thank you.
Ted Riger!!! Errry day
How could any decent player ever make such a fundamental mistake as not knowing how the sprinkler head distances are measured?
Sir i had the same question
Leggo
Maybe he was just having a cold day, but he needs to work on the pace of his putts.
Mmm I’m off 10 and I cannot believe he “actually” plays off 10 ie around gross 80 and doesn’t know his club mapping nor the distances he is trying to hit, in fact his lack of awareness of distance in both respects is baffling !
Gross 80 is not a 10 handicap - that’s a 3-4 handicap. What????
He shot 13 over. Is that not the definition of 10 handicap. 8 out of 20 rounds needs to be 10 over? And the rest don’t really matter
lol
