What a fantastic video. I’m a 6.4 index and have been searching the last three months for videos on how to get to scratch. This was so eye opening. What I took away from it is that Lee plays “boring golf”: fairways and greens. I love how Lee knows his golf game so we’ll. There were a few times he mentioned his high ball flight would get held up in the wind so he adjusted. Lastly, on his birdie tries he said “Just give it a chance.” He didn’t come up short on those putts. I’m going to incorporate those nuggets in my game and hopefully I’ll get closer to scratch.
Noticeable difference is Lee makes the game easy for himself with good course management, Liam puts himself in difficult situations like having to chip over bunkers but is saved by having a great shortgame 👍 Also Lee saying ‘this 9 will give me more check than the 8’ is a little gem, just shows he’s always thinking 👌 cracking video again!
Lee is a great addition to a great channel. I started golfing 2 years ago and love it. My buddy has been golfing 20 years and our game is all about the enjoyment. This channel isn’t only about the game but also the community of golfers who also share the love of the game. We’re still in lockdown in our part of Canada so keep these videos coming it helps me get through the golf withdrawal I’m having now. 😂
What a great addition Lee is. The one thing I’ll take away from this is to stop trying to smash everything. Trying to develop a smooth, consistent and repeatable swing is the way to bring my scores down. Liam, your short game is nuts. I would kill to have your confidence when chipping and putting. Class video!
Really enjoy this type of video. Lee is great at rationalising why he is going to play the shot he has selected. There is very little difference between you. The biggest thing is the consistency that Lee has in hitting fairways. Great short game Liam.
Absolutely loved this video. It’s a great subject and I found it really interesting to see the different approach to shots and shot making. I have to also say, what a great addition tonthe channel Lee has been. I love his calm, accepting, thoughtful and unhurried approach to the game. I’ve been playing twenty years and have maintained a single figure hcp for over a decade now. But I’ve learnt so much from watching Lee and the way he thinks his way around the golf course. Huge kudos to Liam, Lee, The production team and the rest of the group for creating a compelling, funny, interesting, light hearted look at the game we love. And I get to watch all of this for free! It’s certainly helping me through this extended lock down here in Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
The difference is that Lee has no doubts where as Liam still thinks about the bad things that may happen before he takes the shot. He talks himself into bad shots 😳
@@noellemackay9327 I’ve made that same comment several times over the last 12 months. It causes him to either hit it straight right or come over the top to make up for the misalignment. He could get down to scratch if he sorted it.
The rhythm in Lee's swing is identical to his personality. Easy, smooth and wonderful........ I might be tempted to sell my soul for that golf swing! Interesting video as always!
Outstanding video. The analysis at the end is brilliant and should be written as the opening to every book on golf tuition. Take the extra club, swing consistently and smoothly, work on the short game and putting. Thanks Liam and GolfMates- the last two days have been superb illustrating why golf should be fun and how to get better at it (which adds to the pleasure). Liam - you have put together the best team possible. Lee is a great addition because of his gentle teaching style, OMP and Mr Barlow are the heart of the Mates, Josh is the excitement, and your dad, Pete, Stu, Joe, etc make the package complete. Thank you.
Great video, I've been watching a lot of golf videos lately and always come away thinking I'll never get better as everyone blasting a 7 iron 180....great to see you boys are like me 'normal' so it's given me the confidence that I can get my 26 handicap better without hitting everything a country mile....also an inspiration seeing your short game...its fantastic 👍⛳️
I have watched all of Lees videos since he joined. And it's plain to see how much more comfortable he is in front of the camera now and it shows in his swing, smooth operator. Great addition to the channel. 👌
That was one of the best ones so far. Lee has shown how better it is to be rhythmical in your swing with a club higher, rather than trying to break the back of the ball with the wrong club. This then takes any negative thoughts out of the equation.
I'm all for this type of video once a week. I like how Lee explains what type of shot and why in a concise way. Too many youtuber golfers drone on, and bombard you with advice. Lee keeps it quick and simple.
A great video--the essence of Golf Mates. This video shows how you-all treasure your way of playing and don't take it for granted. The loosey-goosey chipping and calm demeanor, Lee's easy way of playing, and Josh and his rhythm. Well done.
You've hit the nail on the head for me. Since having lessons, all I can think of over the ball is 100 different things I'm supposed to do, if I can just clear my mind and swing, I'm a million times better! It's so hard to do though, was better before lessons when I just swung away!!
Consistency and clear thinking. Lee is great for the channel. Playing with Lee, is good for Liam's thinking. Good video that clearly showed difference.
great vid when lee said he just thinks rythm and tempo and not tryin to max his club distance it was a golden nugget ...efficiency won out only a car crash from lee was going to give a different outcome ..best instructional video anyone will see this weekend great work
An excellent video, to use Lee in this way and to get him to describe his pre shot thoughts ,what he is seeing and to then execute is really interesting. Let’s see more of these. Thanks.
Really interesting video! What stood out to me was Lee's clarity of thinking, coupled with his consistent swing. Never doubting the outcome. Liam showing the realness of swing thoughts invasion when the swings off. Great insights lads 👌🏌️♂️⛳
Really enjoyed this video. Can definitely draw comparisons with Liam's game where short game is my strongest part, the rest needs work! Love how Lee is so consistent & always swings within himself. Great addition to the channel.
what Lee said at the start about doing everything behind the ball before setting up for the shot, I think is the most important factor to take from this video for me. Having a clear head over the ball is so important
Your last comment Liam makes perfect sense. When I was a mid hdcp my short game was great. As my hdcp dropped to 7 my short game suffered. The difference was, I hit more greens in reg as a 7 hdcp. Now I will add to that. A lot of golfers just do not practice their short game. We want to play, not practice.🤔
I've seen a lot of Liam's game over the last year and although l don't play l have noticed that Liam tends not to play within himself like Lee does. Keep it easy and relaxed, there seems to be tension in your long game. OMP is so consistent because he is relaxed and not worried about distance. Love the content, looking forward to more hidden gems.
Liam beats himself up like most mid handicap players, but underestimates how good he really is....Lee talks himself into playing a positive shot every time, his swing is a joy to watch! Keep up the great work fellas 👊
Another great video. Keeping golf real. Some days are diamond and some are stone. The wind doesn't "get up" in my game, but often the sweat gets in my eyes.
What a brilliant video and did exactly what’s it said on the tin !! Lee is a fantastic addition to the channel and videos like this are gold dust. I’m a 16 HC and can be good but inconsistent with both long and short - will certainly try and practice consistency of strike and short game over the summer - but Lee also uses OMP’s traffic light system for sensible course management
Your short game is spot on Liam and very apparent you have lots of golf knowledge but Lee is so constant and that for me is the key, also course management is very important you only have to look at what Pat can do. Very good informative vidio, thank you, some great golf played.. Well done both 🤗❤️
Hopefully when your new fitted clubs arrive you will get yourself back down to Zen golf for the day. Best golf I've ever seen you play after that first lesson and it was nice to see you playing with some confidence. Keep up the good work Liam and these longer videos are well better.
What a fun video - great guys! My game is similar to Liam, about a seven handicap. I noticed that he has the same problem as me, he takes the club too far inside. Lee swings straight back on the plane and thus is easily able to downswing on line for more consistent straighter shots. His slow, smooth temper also helps - I tend to swing to fast and jerky - working on that. Thanks for the video!
Hi golf mates just wanted to say I've just got home from my first round of 9 holes since I was 15 (28 now), it's rained the whole time, I'm soaked through, and loved every single minute of it. Thanks for getting me back into the game I once loved, it was amazing. If you could, please get omp to explain how to hit out of a deep rough I struggled with this. Much love everyone, happy golfing ⛳
Great vlog Liam just shows how small the difference is between scratch and low handicap, very relatable to a 10 handicapper and a 20 handicapper Consistancy of ball striking is key to improvement. That 's what make OMP so great he hit the ball so consistantly plus a great game plan.
Great vlog, Lee is a great bloke and adds so much to the channel. I would love to see Lee and his Brother from another mother play you and mr Barlow. Lee knows who I mean. 👍
Thank you so much for my birthday greeting (Garry Adams), it was one of the best highlights of the day for me. Don't stop making these videos, you and the rest of the golf mates are the best.
Great video guys! The ending conversation was really enjoyable. Some of my best shots are punches out of the woods under a low overhang because I get lots of practice at that.
Im new to golf not played since I was a child Ive bought my gear all Nike black pro combo irons and nike method putter and covert driver few hybrids and am going to join my local golf club soon this channel makes me feel like im there with you learning things.
Smilee, your game is so inspiring for me, being a 22 Handicapper. My shortgame just becomes like Liams a strong part of my game, but putting could improve even more, I feel. GIR is not yet an option for me, cos I miss distance if playing within my limits and that's why my focus is now turning towards FW-finders as well as approach shots. Looking forward to more videos that show us how to think during a round about our play & strategy. Cheers from Kiel/northern germany. @Liam: maybe stop talking earlier before swinging the putter for a birdie chance...or any short put.
Agreed with once a week of this format. We can always choose to try if we like the sound of it or ignore the advice if we don’t think it will suit our game. Just as entertaining so I think you should run with it.
I would be interested in Lee's thoughts on having a plan for how you want to play each hole - what to hit off the tee to leave the "best" second shot, holes to attack and holes to play safe etc etc and how things like wind direction and course condition impact the plan.
Get the ball into a position where the next shot in is your most comfortable club. Course planners or a self made planner are great. If you don’t need to attack don’t go for it unless you can execute safely. Depending on the conditions you can club up or down but stick to your plan. Old that helps Lee 👍🏼
Great video gents, love the contrasting game plans, great learning platform for us high handicap duffers! Love how Lee talks us through his shot process, he’s a natural in front of the lens. Keep them coming Liam.
Have to say Lee's swing is really good to watch; smooth and unhurried. Great vlog with a lot of good talking points; definitely worth rewatching Cheers
Just started watching and loving it. There's so much content for mid and high handicappers, a bit more aimed a lower handicappers would great! Either you're there and it's relevant or it's where you're aiming to get to and a good insight!
That was great way to show difference on scratch and low handicapper. Lee knows where he wants it to go doesn't try to hit it hard just Nice n easy fairways and greens. I'm a 15 handicap who trys to muscle shots when I should go up a club and swing easy. Lee you make it look simple so will be following youre lead. You and omp have the right idea no bravado take the club you need not the one you think you can get there with.
Here's a tip for you Liam. I found that I struck the golf ball my best when I actually didn't think about hitting the ball. I tried to make a great swing and the ball just happened to get in the way!! Give it a try! Good luck. 👍 cheers.
"That was not an elegant golf swing." Always remember mate, golf is like dating in high school. It doesn't have to be pretty, you just gotta get it in there.
Really enjoyed thought process of both golfers. Lee is very consistent and Liam sometimes just off fairway which makes for slight harder shot selection. Great job guys. Bravo...more..more.
Awesome! This video certainly gave me some great teaching to practice more my driving and tee shots, long irons, mid irons, chipping and putt to score. Wait a minute, that is all of the areas except sand traps! OK, I have to practice sand traps also to get up and down. More of these videos please, g@golfmates
Love this video, absolutely brilliant. A very good and honest assessment of both games. Lee has such consistent rhythm in his swing it's a joy to watch and at the same time Liam, I think you are too hard on yourself. In a real matchplay situation I think my money would be on you Liam.. Anyway, fantastic video, keep them coming...
Love looking back at these videos. Missing smiley Lee's honesty and laughter, any chance of getting him back on.? Great smooth swinger of a club. We can all learn from him and other scratch golfers... keep it simple and easy tempo.
Your comment at the end Liam regarding your short game is spot on, you are forced to have a good short game because of the inconsistency from tee to green. 2 years ago I was off 6 I am now off 10 (WHS) I know how you feel. Every now and then it all comes together and we have a day out. Just bloody annoying when you know its their but you left it in the bed when you got up. Anyway can we call him SMILEE from now on 😁😁😁
Great video guys, Liam definitely has a scratch players short game, been saying it for years, said he'll be cat 1 player this season 👍 Lee has a scratch players long game and the best attitude I've seen, simply the best swinger of a club on UA-cam, enjoyed that lads after an 11 hour shift 👏
Lee is an absolute gift for this channel. Great golfer, nice person, not talking too much.
I love the videos with Lee. Talks sense, has a laugh and plays a great game. Less dribble in the videos he is involved in
What a fantastic video. I’m a 6.4 index and have been searching the last three months for videos on how to get to scratch. This was so eye opening. I've said it before but what a great edition to the team Lee is👍👌⛳
Thank you 🤓

He does he’s always thinking about the shot. Glad you enjoyed
What addition to the channel Lee is! Such a sweet and wholesome guy, I'm calling him sweet pea Lee!!
Thank you

Absolutely he does

Exactly what i thought... Positive thoughts 💭 no negativity
agree...scratch golfer can not afford double, three putts and OBs. single digit golfer can allow about 2-3 those worst case scenarios..
The rhythm in Lee's swing is identical to his personality. Easy, smooth and wonderful........ I might be tempted to sell my soul for that golf swing! Interesting video as always!

Lots more of Lee please. Very nice swing and interesting to hear his thoughts. Would be great to hear him talk his way round an unknown course
Consistency and clear thinking. Lee is great for the channel. Playing with Lee, is good for Liam's thinking. Good video that clearly showed difference.
He’s a good lad
Loved this video, not one thing I didn't like about it. Loved it was a bit longer too, felt like I could sit down and really get into it. Thanks guys!

Hope you get well soon 👍🏼
I like how Lee plays nothing forced or rushed good tempo doesn't need to smash the ball miles
Absolutely he just so smooth
He's smooth like Galaxy Chocolate lol.
Liam, the best golf you've ever played on this channel was when you did the video on clubbing up... 🤔
Try playing blindfold.. Its a good drill.. Takes away all swing thoughts and you just hit the ball..
Didn’t have WiFi for a few days and just watched the new hidden gems. Wow what a course. Can’t wait for the next one 👍🏻
Thank you

Love Lees attitude and always taking that extra club to stop forcing the shot.

Another great video. Keeping golf real. Some days are diamond and some are stone. The wind doesn't "get up" in my game, but often the sweat gets in my eyes.
Definitely do more of these videos they can be very helpful for most players.
Keep up the great work fellas

Love the technical type videos! Also love the way Liam and Lee play off of each other - Liam the sillier side and Lee the calmer side.
Thank you 👍🏼
Your short game is spot on Liam and very apparent you have lots of golf knowledge but Lee is so constant and that for me is the key, also course management is very important you only have to look at what Pat can do. Very good informative vidio, thank you, some great golf played.. Well done both 🤗❤️
Thank you 🤓

Thank you. Welcome back
Lee’s tempo and bank striking is lovely. .. Liam your short game is great. And I’m learning off all of you.
Absolutely
Great video guys! I REALLY hope you do more of them!👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you 👍🏼
Thank you so much for my birthday greeting (Garry Adams), it was one of the best highlights of the day for me. Don't stop making these videos, you and the rest of the golf mates are the best.
Happy birthday pal
Great video guys! The ending conversation was really enjoyable. Some of my best shots are punches out of the woods under a low overhang because I get lots of practice at that.
Thank you 🤓
I really enjoyed this video. Great to hear the thought process each of you goes through prior to swinging the club. Thanks guys!
Great video. Love the way Lee explains everything. He makes it sound so simple, when we all know golf is never simple.
It is not !
Lee's a great addition to the team. I've been enjoying his contributions so far 👍
Thank you 👍🏼
Nice format, please do more. Good to hear the rationale for the choices you make.
I really enjoyed this format. Lee's swing is so smooth, which probably helps with his consistency.
Lee is a bonus to Golf Mates. Look forward to seeing more of him on the channel. 🤓
As a high handicap player it’s great watch watch and listen to Lee! It’s his calm attitude that I’d love to have. Great stuff lads 👍
Im new to golf not played since I was a child Ive bought my gear all Nike black pro combo irons and nike method putter and covert driver few hybrids and am going to join my local golf club soon this channel makes me feel like im there with you learning things.
Brilliant have fun
Good content chaps.... I do like the way Lee as a scratch golfer is laid back and doesn't say anything bad about handicap golfers
Nothing bad to say pal 👍🏼
By that, I mean Lee seems to be very encouraging of any golfer at any level.... fills you with confidence 👍
Like watching you and Lee together. I always learn something. Thanks and keep playing.
Loved this video, the explanations really help me for how to think about the shots!
Please do more of these videos.
What a lovely pro! Very self effacing. Top bloke. Very in tune with the Golf Mates ethos.
I love the vids when the banter is flying... BUT IMHO this is one of the best vids you have made
Comments at the end were 100% what I was thinking. Enjoyed this video.cheers
Big thing I've learned from Lee, don't try to knock the spots off the ball. There's no need. Great video gents keep them coming 👍
Smilee, your game is so inspiring for me, being a 22 Handicapper. My shortgame just becomes like Liams a strong part of my game, but putting could improve even more, I feel. Brilliant I do like Lee's laid back approach
Let's see more videos like this
Golf is like life you never stop learning
Absolutely you dont
Lee is an absolute saint. I bet you he brings flowers to his significant other every Friday and calls his Mom atleast twice a week.
Agreed with once a week of this format. We can always choose to try if we like the sound of it or ignore the advice if we don’t think it will suit our game. Just as entertaining so I think you should run with it.
Thank you very kind
I would be interested in Lee's thoughts on having a plan for how you want to play each hole - what to hit off the tee to leave the "best" second shot, holes to attack and holes to play safe etc etc and how things like wind direction and course condition impact the plan.
Get the ball into a position where the next shot in is your most comfortable club. Course planners or a self made planner are great. Very nice game, and yes I’d like to see more videos like this. The narrative was very informative. 👍🏻 Thanks
Got to say I've been trying to club up and swing easy and I can see improvements 19hc . The method works Lee. keep up the great content Liam
Great video gents, love the contrasting game plans, great learning platform for us high handicap duffers! Love how Lee talks us through his shot process, he’s a natural in front of the lens. Keep them coming Liam.
That is one of the best videos I have seen for a while swing easy and concentrate when putting
Absolutely
Have to say Lee's swing is really good to watch; smooth and unhurried.
Great vlog with a lot of good talking points; definitely worth rewatching
Cheers
Just started watching and loving it. There's so much content for mid and high handicappers, a bit more aimed a lower handicappers would great! Either you're there and it's relevant or it's where you're aiming to get to and a good insight!
Lee is back! He is a golfer. Well played Liam, you are not far behind.
He is indeed. Thank you 👍🏼
Thanks Lee. I really appreciate watching the two of you and listening to your comments.
Great video.. so many of these types of golfmates videos have help improve my game. 👍⛳️🏌️♂️
Loved this video. Useful insight into how to approach shots and to take account of what is working for you on the day.
What a fantastic video, we can all learn from this. Lee has a fantastic tempo, your short game is amazing Liam. 👍👍
That was great way to show difference on scratch and low handicapper. Lee knows where he wants it to go doesn't try to hit it hard just Nice n easy fairways and greens.
Good luck. 👍 cheers.
Thank you
"That was not an elegant golf swing."
Always remember mate, golf is like dating in high school. It doesn't have to be pretty, you just gotta get it in there.
😂😂
Really enjoyed thought process of both golfers. Lee is very consistent and Liam sometimes just off fairway which makes for slight harder shot selection. Great job guys. Bravo...more..more.
That was good both learning off each other and I've learnt a lot off this channel
Brilliant thank you
Thank you
Great addition to the channel, lovely chap and a good golfer.
Absolutely he is
Great video Lee is a great addition. We would all love to see a 3 ball with Liam, Peter Finch and Lee.
Love looking back at these videos. Missing smiley Lee's honesty and laughter, any chance of getting him back on.? Great smooth swinger of a club. We can all learn from him and other scratch golfers... keep it simple and easy tempo.
Lee is a brilliant addition to the channel. Nice guy and great golfer. Good choice. 👍🏻
Anyway can we call him SMILEE from now on 😁😁😁
Brilliant, I enjoyed that. lee is a super addition to the team. 👍
Thank you
I want to have a 2 over after 5 hard holes! Great job Liam!!
Thank you
Nice video. And there must be such joy knowing that from 100 yards in, you can hit the ball fairly straight.
Best video the channel has had! Loved it, lee has a lovely smooth swing! And Liams shortgame is Mickelson esk 😂
Thank you 🤓
Great video guys, Liam definitely has a scratch players short game, been saying it for years, said he'll be cat 1 player this season 👍 Lee has a scratch players long game and the best attitude I've seen, simply the best swinger of a club on UA-cam, enjoyed that lads after an 11 hour shift 👏
Guys gotta be said i love this content of video. The respect between the two of u is amazing. Great games by both.
Absolutely respect each other
At 32:30 hit nail on head. Big time. Excellent gents.
