2005 F450 Conversion from V10 to 7.3 Project Update 1

  • The past few days I managed to pull the heavy flatbed, 24" cabinet section and the cab off of my 2005 F450 with a blown V10.
Next steps are to remove the engine and transmission, then remove all unnecessary items such as the hydraulic system, all gasoline related items and the chassis wiring harness.
My neighbor will be helping me with one important safety detail: removal of the contents of the fuel tank which is nearly full. I use only a few gallons of gasoline per year and there's no sense in me saving more maybe 2 gallons for my chainsaw and weedeater.
After that I will clean, inspect and prepare the frame for the 7.3 diesel conversion.
I'll be making videos of the project, so stay tuned and hopefully I won't get too far behind.

If the rates were good I'd be hauling every day and maybe could afford to pay for some of what I do. But I have that 7.3 half built and the 7.3 in my hotshot is running good so it just makes sense to haul some good loads to pay the bills and build a good truck that will be worth far more than I could afford to buy. I wasn't even looking at the load board, but a broker that likes my work reached out to me to help him out of a bind. It's a short haul with a ton of deadhead so I set the price accordingly. It's well worth a long drive to take a break from my F450! And it's supposed to be 105 here tomorrow...

Well, I started this one just to see if everything else was working. My neighbor called to check on me. Seems I smoked out the neighborhood... there's a video on that also.

Where are you from, Joel? Just curious. I live in South Texas.
