Hello all, I recently repainted the van. I mixed the grey I had left with a little white and then took it down to the hardware store where they added a bit of blue dye for me. It came out nicer than the first try. The trick is to do it in a cool shaded area. This will give you more time to smooth out the lines the roller makes before it starts to dry.
Now days nobody needs a fancy and expensive paintjob thanks for the idea now I'm going to paint my cargo trailer was gonna take it to a shop not no more
Did you use reducer mixed in when you painted I at first didn't use the reducer enough but now am using more but painted my truck recently with a lvlp spray gun but it still didn't come out as good as I wanted but painted my old truck last year and didn't come as good either. I tried using reusable aerosol spray paint cans and didn't work for me either. I wanna use another reusable aerosol spray paint can again I saw the Sure Shot but I don't know if it will work better though than the other reusable spray paint cans used though.
It really on took 2quarts paint for it? Should i thin it with paint thinner? I want that same color on my 97 astro. I m going to either call it the gun boat or battle ship, go for that theme with numbers and all
I just finished painting my 1987 campervan today, it looks awesome!! There are recommendations to thin paint 4:3 or 4:2 with mineral spirits or acetone. Also note that Rustoleum or Tremclad paints take a long time to dry. So try adding some hardener to the mix. It will dry within hours instead of days.
It takes about two quarts. You can get them here: www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-207000-Topside-Semi-Gloss-1-Quart/dp/B000BZX092/ref=asc_df_B000BZX092/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=193168541182&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3076818336510519735&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9051703&hvtargid=pla-316279258515&psc=1 I should have gone with the green.
One more thing: Paint it in the shade around 60 degrees, the paint will dry slower and be smoother. I made the mistake of doing it in the sun and it dried too fast leaving more of a texture.
Good stuff, that's just what i'm shooting for. I'm going to give it a go, but i don't really have a polisher or anything. Hopefully it turns out as good as yours!
This is called a smart paint job. Perfection is not needed. Good work.
Thank you
Totally agree

You son of a gun! That Portlandia reference got me. :)
Buff with G3 and G10 polish with an electrical buffing machine it will look great trust me 👍
Thanks for sharing, just what I needed - our old campervan will get the same treatment
I think ill be doing the same on my work van bro. Great idea
I think it looks good and you did a nice job.
Thank you!

Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you, glad you liked it.
Love your comments in the end man, epic!
Outstanding!
Good job thanks for sharing
It's not rusty that's what matters. You could always apply another color and use a very fine buffing or sanding medium to smooth it out
It may not be perfect but its a hell of a lot better than it was before.
Looks good! Going to give it a try on my daughter's 99 Toyota corolla. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi do you have info on a proper paint-thinner ratio on this? Thanks.
And please post details on the type of primer used
How did it turn out?
@@ceciliacuento2698 Rustolium has a primer in this line of paints. Also you can thin it 5%
@@Mrtimekilla thank you sir for your reply

Thank you! Let me know how it goes with your project.
Better yet, roll on Totalboat Wet Edge paint, thinned 10 to 1...pictures of my van are on Amazon reviews for this paint...did it in seafoam and white.
I wonder if you done rolling and tipping how it would look.
Ребята, просто супер
U need some chevy rally wheels painted black that would look dam good
Maybe add a clear coat on top to give it some shine and protection? Not bad though...good option for a less expensive vehicle. You did some neat work.
Hi do you have info on a proper paint-thinner ratio on this? Thanks.

I didn't thin mine. Also It took more paint because I had to go back and fix mistakes.

I didn’t use any. You could try it.

So after the years how’s it holding up? I’m thinking of painting my car with garage floor paint
I sold it last summer. I did need to keep it waxed or the oil paint would get chalky after some time.
👍👍
5 parts paint, 2 parts penetrol, 1/2 part hardener...paint will come out smooth and glossy!
Why using penetrol and hardener
@@Gangstawalk1Tractor paint is slow to dry
thinner in the paint ina botttle with paint thinner.you won't get roller marks
How many layers of paint did you apply?
3
How did you cut in around the door handles?
I taped them off
@@Mrtimekilla
But how did you get the paint down into the area around the handles.
Thanks for your reply!
Did you wetsand it at the end?
No, It was a textured finish from the foam roller and it comes out glossy.
Awesome how much gallon did it take for doing 3 coats on your van? I have the same van and wanna do the same as you ;)

Awesome thanks am gonna go with "sand" color ;)
Needs another coat!
looks pretty good! did you just do the one coat? any sanding?
Thanks, it’s 3 coats no sanding. It looks ok at a glance in real life.
