- This is my 2000 VW T4 it is our family adventure van, which hopefully we will be using for short weekends away and I am slowly making it what we need. In this video I explain how me and my wife hand-painted this van with a roller and Hammerite paint very easy process.
Materials needed
Body filler if needed
60 grit sandpaper or quite coarse sandpaper
400 grit sandpaper
800 grit sandpaper
2000 grit sandpaper
Sanding block
Scotch-brite
Degreaser
3 inch foam roller
Paint of your choice
That color looks sharp! Job well done 👍
Seriously such a good job!
Stealing this exact method to do mine!
Cracking work mate, our next major project
Thanks mate I need to redo mine easy as pie tho
Nice job 👍 going to try this with a used van I bought today
Going to be doing my 72 cal looker bug the roller way with Rustoleum paint
Enjoy it's so easier and fun, just remember to allow to dry between coats and flat back between coats to get a smooth finish
Great video. Very helpful with my upcoming T5 project! Did you use the same paint on the front bumper? Did it react differently to the plastic than the metal bodywork?
@PranceProject when you were doing the 2nd and 3rd coat did you add less spirits to the paint or keep the ratio the same but put it on thicker? I've just ordered some military paint to do mine but did do the roof in same paint as yours in white but didn't realise had to add spirits to it
Yer kept it the same ratio and just rollered on didnt got much thicker as it runs very easy.
Yer u need to add the sprite else one set and sit properly but u can get a stunning finish if u sand the orange peel between coats
hi.hows the t4 holding up.was thinking roller my t4aroung the skirts and bumper to make 2 tone .steve
Yer holding up really well as it's outdoor paint it's hard wearing.
I done mine like 2 three years ago and still looks really good, do want to redo as have slightly scratched here and there and maybe reversed into a few bits lol but I highly recommend doing it mate 👌
@@PranceProject I’ve just brush painted bumpers Matt black for now will use your way
Soon 🙏😀
Nice one mate hope you enjoy
hi bud wat colour of red rustoleum is this you painted the van in cheers looks great
Hammerite garage door red
Do you put clear coat on it when finished??
You can I didnt and havent it's hard wearing paint it will give a shinier finish but I was happy without
Brilliant thanks man
Mike Long your welcome, hope it was helpful
Hi do you have info on a proper paint-thinner ratio on this? Thanks
what if you buffed it? I'm sure if you did that you would never know it was hand painted
I actually really like the effect but yer if u wet sand and buff it comes up like paint shop style I've seen a few hand painted that u would say spend thousands on in a paint shop
@@PranceProject will be buying some 5ltr gloss paint next week and applying it then going over it with a brush comes out smooth then buffing afterwards should be a decent job you inspired me Bro thanks 👍
Was thinking of doing this to mine how meny liters did it take
What do u mean? Litres didn't take?
How much tins of paint ☺
@@chilman6461 I'm so sorry I thought u was commenting on a different video haha, I think I used about 2 and a half I litre tins maybe less as you do water it down with the white Sprit
@@PranceProject thanks mate going to get the stuff in case we have lock down and no work ☺
@@chilman6461 perfect time mate lockdown around the corner and and nice weather
👍
Helpful video, thanks 🙏
No problem glad my videos are helpful
Does hammerite not react with white spirits?
No not at all mixes well and rolls on smooth
@@PranceProject thanks for the information
@@jonathanjones1949 any more questions please feel free to ask if u have any more 🤙
The old Hammerite was trichloroethane based and could be mixed with thinner. The newer stuff is spirit based, and much easier to work. You still get a better and more economical job with brushing enamel, such as is used to paint lorries.
on your wet and dry did you wet the van or use it dry
I think I don't it both but mainly done it dry
@@PranceProject nice one i like watching your vids you learn me a lot so cheers for that
I'm pleased I'm being helpful mate
