  • This is a first look at the Gearlab Kayak Rolling Paddle Float. I received the Gearlab Kayak Rolling Paddle Float about a week ago but the weather hasn't been kind enough to let me try it on the water. Instead, I decided to share the features and functions of the Gearlab Kayak Rolling Float before using it. ‪@gearlaboutdoors2594‬
    There aren't many videos out there sharing the Gearlab Kayak Rolling Paddle Float so I hope this helps in giving you a clearer view of the actual float.
    Below are affiliate links to products I use in my videos frequently such kayaking, hiking, and camping. The links below won't impact your order but it helps me to continue making videos. Really appreciate your support!

    Another great video. Wish you had clothes for whatever weather you're having now because I can't wait till next week to see it in use. Dry suit, wet suit, maybe that's the next video ?

      Bill, you’ll probably laugh when I say it’s cold.. 😅 we reached about 8C (46F) the past week, with some parts also 2C (36F). For us, it’s unusually cold and not that common. I see the weather is much warmer next week and will head out straight away! I actually think a wet suit would be more suitable for us over here.. might have to invest in one!

      @@Fishaholicboy Can't wait for the wet suit review Lol hurry before it warms up. Nice and cold here, just too darn windy.

    Wow!! Thanks for sharing this! I didnt know GearLab even made paddle floats! I have a paddle float for euro paddles, since its required for class, but this is awesome to know there is a Greenland style paddle float. I'll have to check out the link. It's still pretty cold where I'm at as well. We've been paddling with average air temps around 40F degrees. Our most recent paddle was 30F degrees right after a day of snow storms, but we use dry suits (with under layers) and pogies to stay warm. I'm looking forward to warmer weather to begin rolling clinics in May. Love your videos! Looking forward to your next one!

      Hi! The main difference with these floats is that there are handles for your hand to grab while practicing the float. You can also use the euroblade on the ones too! It’s definitely much colder over there.. I think I’ve freeze if I kayaked over your way. I recently got an NRS hydro skin so I hope that helps. Have you been able to make any videos lately?

    Interesting, I've never heard of a paddle float before. Will be interested to see your upcoming video to see how it's used!

      I know, so many covid cases. Quite a few of my friends testing positive. My Doctor cousin in HK says luckily vast majority of cases are very mild. Stay safe regardless! I'm sure this won't last long, either everyone will get it first, or the government will get things under control again 😅

    Really good to see this. I like that it is effectively a combination of a avataq and a normal paddle float, so can be used for Greenland rolling practice as well as self rescues. A shame Gearlab stuff is not easy to get to the UK with the import taxes.
    Really looking forward to seeing you use it

      Yeah I thought I’d share as there weren’t many videos on it. I’m still quite new to kayaking and got this to help me learn by myself. I just checked their website and they have a dealer in the UK www.whetmanequipment.com :)

      @@Fishaholicboy Yes, Steve Whetman sells the paddles. He also makes some amazing gear that most of the British paddlers seem to own! His contact tow and Sea Bean towlines are excellent.

      You can buy a pump to help to inflate.. but can easily just use our lungs 😂

    nice but too expensive

    • @Fishaholicboy
      @Fishaholicboy  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, it’s expensive compared to others I believe. But I got it because there’s handles for me to use and I don’t think I’ve seen any other floats with the handles.. maybe I haven’t looked hard enough

    Rather than using a paddle float as a rolling aid, instead find an instructor who knows how to teach rolling! The problem with paddle floats and rolling (up!) is that paddle-floats create a lot of drag and encourages the student to pull down with the paddle and lift their head which is bad in so many ways!! You want the paddle to slice easily through the water when doing a sweep style roll.

    • @Fishaholicboy
      @Fishaholicboy  5 місяців тому +1

      I agree with my your comments but you assume that there’s instructors all around the world.. first world problems. I used the float as an aid because there’s no instructors in this part of the world.
