Oh yea Dually .......that would be cool. I have been telling Moe for years to get the turbo kit for that truck. They really come alive. and get even better mpg. Hans auto parts. they were like $450.....I have one on my truck and it has lasted over 40k miles.
I really enjoyed this. Stimulated my brain into thinking differently about this. I remember, probably in the nineties, when I had a hitch custom made for one of my trucks and they cut the parts on some sort of CNC plasma cutter and being amazed at the process. Fast forward, I have a manual plasma and welders, and I realize that I can make hitches for all my vehicles, after watching this. It’s not rocket science!
Man, that’s a cool little VW!! I owned a Scirocco when I was a kid it was a blast to drive but at the time I wasn’t smart enough to keep it running lol!
Nice hitch, your welds are looking awesome. I thought the hitch with the bumper built into it was really clever. Ginger just wants little love 🥰. The ball was a good way to distract her.
I remember way back in the day used to be able to go and buy these universal kits, it was essentially just a receiver tube with a piece of 2"X1/2" flat bar welded to the top of it with a hole drilled on either side and another piece off the back that you would attach to the floor of your trunk, my father ended up with one of these on a 65 Ford galaxie 500 convertible that he purchased and the previous owner had used it to pull a camper trailer to Mexico from British Columbia Canada, I remember being the one inside the trunk stomping the floor back down because the weight of the camper head caved in the bottom of the trunk. Another interesting thing is apparently when he was down there he told us the engine blew up and he had it bored out to a 410 and rebuilt by a local shop, when we tore the engine down there was literally main bolts missing, and nothing was torqued almost everything was loose, couldn't believe it made the drive home
That intro was COMEDY....ha ha. OMG that rabbit stock diesel pulling that trailer is a lot for one of those little engines. The 1600 just did not have any power. Plus it is really light truck to pull a trailer that heavy. I was going to put a receiver on my rabbit. A 1.9 aaz with turbo. but i never did. Bought the Jetta and put one on it instead. FYI get one of those Hans auto parts turbos for your truck. They really come alive with about 10lbs of boost and better MPG.
I've shared this theory for years. I move large empty trailers with my small trucks. Once upon a time I was using a loaded trailer, not too big...but I didn't know that that my hitch was mounted to the sheet metal of a bumper. Someone else had set that up and I had not thought to check it. After that I stopped towing with that van.
going to the lumber yard with the rabbit going 25 to 35mph would get much better MPG than using that big Ford truck....and get the job done. Lets hope the pipeline gets back started in a few more days!!!!!
weird timing on this i just cut off a couple hitches at the junkyard friday, gonna cut them up until they fit the front of a new chevy 2500, mostly for mounting a winch.. chaining it to the tow hooks and running jumper cables gets old really quick
Awesome, I want to put a hitch on my 97 Escort wagon for this exact reason. I just haven't been able to convince myself that it's a good idea to cut a hole in the rear bumper. My Escort seems too low to have the receiver hang below the bumper.
Been following your videos for a few years now. I always wondered why you called your channel 65ford? I love all the work you do but I think I only seen your 65 Ford once or twice on the channel. Maybe it was the focus before I subscribed. Anyway keep up the great upcycling of old metal into new usable stuff
I been thinking about doing something like this. I got a few trucks. I been thinking about making my A frame tow bar universally mount on the front of all my trucks using 2 receiver tubes behind each front bumper and then I'll weld the hinge brackets to a length of square tube on each side of the A frame tow bar so any of my trucks can tow any of my trucks. It's just in the concept phase right now because I'm recovering from a bad accident but it'll start happening before the spring thaw. Appreciate ya
Not sure why i haven't been seeing your videos, maybe you haven't been posting or I haven't watched enough "handyman" videos lately?? anyway, good to see, even though all my vehicles have hitches already :) If you have a truck, add a hitch to the FRONT to park/ move trailers around, it is SO much easier than from the rear of the vehicle!
Towing scares most people in America. The Great American TOWING scandal by automakers has been going on for nearly 50years. The same vehicles sold in other countries with rated towing capacities are intentionally listed as NOT TO BE USED FOR TOWING(only in North America) in an effort to sell high profit large TRUCKS. Take this VW Pickup I have here with a ZERO tow capacity in America and a 2000lb in every other country. The little Ford Escort has zero towing capacity but has a better weight to power ratio than a Jeep Wrangler of the same year rated for 2000lbs. Modern vehicles are no exception. Take the tiny Toyota Yaris which gets a 2300lb towing capacity in Europe but 0 in North America and you're told it "can't tow anything". Honda CRV is rated at 4400lbs and the list goes on. It's all about money and fear mongering in America with the auto industry.
Hitch on a FWD 'truck' seems silly. Have you considered adding airbags over the leafs for towing capacity? EDIT - thanks for all you do. This video, especially, is quite timely, as I'm just starting build on a front hitch for my 05 Liberty.
2x2x1/4" box tubing across to the tie in points won't flex nor twist like that angle will, but then again it isn't like you're going to be hauling more than 1000 lbs or so with that Omni pickup lol 😉
Maybe in some cases. My Toyota carolla didnt come with a hitch. But beneath the car, on each side of the “frame” there are threaded holes from the factory for a hitch to mount. A small Reese hitch matched up perfectly and is fine for light duty applications like a bicycle mount, or towing a F-350 dually diesel on a car trailer or something. Lol

Tons of future projects for the VW! Suspension upgrade, twin turbo and intercooler, 5th wheel, dually conversion! Always well done!

Now you have me thinking about adding a hitch to the front of my truck! Thanks!😊
Nice work on all of them. I also noticed your brick side-driveway is holding up well too. Thanks for sharing!

Excellent. Wish I had your welding skills.

Nice! waiting for the deck repair... ;)
My, what a big trailer you've got Moe 😆
**runs out to driveway with a death-wheel to put speed grooves in all my tires**

The dryer trick was wild but your wallet will scream at you. This guy made a dryer into a heater.

74 Thumbs down? Must be all those tow hitch conglomerate bots... 🤑
Reesebots 🤣

What is that on the stem of your spare?
Moe, how the heck did you know I was thinking about this for my Chevy Astro and my PT Cruiser? You’re a mind reader, dude! 😉🔧👍
Uni body 😂
There's a reason some vehicles don't have hitches, it's called safety! That vw barely can stop itself and now you add a trailer?

In europe you can buy a trailer hitch for this vehicle no problem.

Trailer restore video next? EDIT: should have watched to the end before commenting :)
Your videos are a real treat! They are always informative and well edited.🚦🏄🍋
