    Great video! I am curious about something: how many filters can you stack at a16mm focal length without vignetting, for a lens that has a 83mm filter thread? Do you think buying their 95mm or even their 112mm filters and using an aftermarket step up ring would guarantee to never have vignetting, even with a 82mm lens filter size, at 16mm focal length?

    I just bought a black promist. It unscrews in about 1/2 second. No special adapter no extra lens cap. No extra money spent. The Freewell does have a nice effect though looking at your images. To bad you can’t just screw it on. Your videos are great by the way.

    I own Freewell ND filter and I only have on request for improvement - add a hole/slot/button/whatever so you can unattach lens hood easily as you can use the whole system all together.

      Absolutely. Place on first before the nd. I have a 77mm (with step up ring) on my 58mm thread lens to prevent vignetting

    Thanks Todd. great video! Have you tried stacking Glow Mist filters? I'm wondering if the effect would be additive, no difference or something in between? Thank again!

    Save yourself a whole bunch of money and buy the Lee Filters Polyester soft filter set in 100mm square frames 1-5. In the UK they cost £ 37.00 for the set. One Freewell filter here costs £ 99.00 on amazon. Ive used them for portraiture stills and video for years and they do exactly the same job.

    Very informative video, thank you! I'm still on the fence about whether this filter is for me. To be sure, you would not be able to get the most out of this filter if I'm using it outside during the daytime, right?

    • @dominey
      @dominey  3 роки тому +1

      You absolutely could use it during the daytime, especially if you shoot into the sun (eg, backlit portraits). It would further refract the light and make it glow more.

      @@dominey Thank you very much for clarifying that! In which case say if it's a really sunny day and I am shooting video, do I use this on top of an ND filter? If yes, does the order I stack them matter?

    • @Eye4eye007
      @Eye4eye007 3 роки тому +1

      @@Alakazam2047 yes, you would want to have your mist filter on first and the nd filter over it

    Atleast I came with conclusion to buy separate magnetic NDs from Freewell, as well as magnetic CPL, but I really don't like glow... Tiffens are just better) asspecially Glimmerglass, and here is my question - can I stack Glimmerglass which is stanrd threaded filter (or let's say Black Pro Mist which you was talking about and what you own) with magnetic frewells? I want to use 82mm (regardless the fact that my biggest lenses are 77mm at the moment) but, can I let's say screw-in Black Pro Mist on the lens, and then Magnetic ring on to it, and other magnetic fitlers stacked?
    Thank you in advance

    Personnaly i don’t like mist effect. But thx for this good review

  • @i8910midnight
    @i8910midnight Рік тому

    Biggest failing of freewell was that they never mention that you can't stack atop another filter of the same filter thread size as the lens, so all the old filters have to be replaced. And also, cannot reattach a lens hood with a filter thread size of 72mm and lower since the frame of the freewell filters are wider than the body of the lens once the filter is installed.

    Is it possible to create those diffusion effects in post? My street photography camera is a GRIII and I don't have as many filter options.

    • @picattiu4813
      @picattiu4813 3 роки тому

      yes you can, but it takes a lot more time. If you want those filters try using step up rings

  • @RAMtrails

    will these snap onto their variable ND magnetically?

    • @dominey
      @dominey  3 роки тому

      These may be inserted into the adapter ring that comes with the magnetic variable ND. If you watch my review of those VNDs, they’d go where the “base filter” is inserted. I tested that and it does work, but they’re a little cumbersome to remove because the filters sit flush inside the mount, so you have to use a fingernail to pry them out. Long story short, yes they’ll work, but it doesn’t work as well as the magnetic adapter that comes with the Quick Swap filters.
