Freewell hands down. The Polar Pro is strong in branding and marketing but not worth it comparatively speaking. And Moment has been kinda disappointing the last 4 months or so I’m a little out on them for now.

@@MangZhu Freewell is killing it with all their filters. I've got (and recommend) the 2-5vnd, 6-9vnd, cpl, and light pollution. If they had taken out mist-like filters before Moment did their Cinebloom, I would've probably gotten those too.
But your customer service is horrific and that's just as important especially when you're charging people $100 + per filter. Thought I'd buy a freewell after watcching this video but its clearly cheaper for all the wrong reasons
The moment VND is designed specifically to allow you to use your lens cap - that's why it's so big. Works perfectly with my cap for my Canon 24-70 f2.8. I have the moment 2-5 stop, and the picture quality is GREAT. They boast no vignetting down to a 16 mm focal length, but I don't have a wide enough lens to prove of explore that. The case is cool, but it is pretty annoying to have to unscrew every time. Great review man!
Oh interesting! Testing now...Okay, I see this. Thats kind of neat! I'll make a little update in the description! Thanks for sharing. I agree that the quality is good, I didn't see any vignetting on any of these filters down at 17mm but the cross polarization is a real problem on all of them still. If it weren't for the freewell filters being even less expensive and better performing, I'd probably be more inclined so suggest the moment filters to people looking for a cheaper option than the polarpro.
Glad to see how well the Freewell stand up towards the PPVND. If PolarPro would just offer a non-signature series option, id be all over it. Nice work on this!
I realized I am a nerd when the magnetic lens cap on the FreeWell made me "ooohh ahhh" and the fact it quite literally matched the Polar Pro in performance means I am sold. Purchased through your link. Great review!

Beware of the Freewell ND - I bought a set in the 82mm size, and they were wonderful. I bought them because of the neat stops (Haptic Feedback) when you get to the various ND settings as well as the hard stop at the end. The "haptic feedback" along with the excellent color and build quality were what made me decide to buy a second set in 67mm. BEWARE. You will NOT get the "haptic feedback" in the 67mm size which was one of the selling points of these ND filters. I reached out to Freewell's customer service as to why, and here is what they said - "Thanks for your message. They are exactly as it says on the box HARD STOP. Hard stop means that it should not go beyond 5 & 9 stops thats precisely what it does. What you are referring to is HAPTIC FEEDBACK which we have recently added in some of the products to see the feedback; it has not been applied to all the sizes & all the filters, nor are we claiming on the product." So a major selling point for these filters turns out to be a GAMBLE as to which ones have the "haptic feedback" or not. One star for misleading/omission of a critical feature of these ND filters.
The Freewells appeal to my frugal side and well, 🧲 magnets 🧲 The Moments are nice too, the PM polar pros are so far outside my budget that they aren’t even an option. Thanks for the comparison! :)
Just got my Freewell NDs today. Now they come in cheap metal boxes which are a pain to open. Cross Polarization effect is also stronger than in test images. I don't see 4, 5 and 9 stops as usable.

Excellent comparison video. Really appreciate your production. You got me to swing to Freewell. To minimize the cross polarization / vignetting effect, does it make sense to get the larger size filter and step up in effort to use sweet center portion of filter, or just to get exact size to fit lens whenever possible?
Weird! In my testing (shown in video) I got the polar pro as 1 2/3 stop to 5 2/3 and 6 1/3 stop to 9. Then the freewell was 1 1/3 stop to 4 2/3 and 5 1/3 to 8 1/3 for the 6 to 9 stop,
@@dunnadidit Great content. I re-watched your test and your results should be more accurate. My unscientific testing is based on only the camera's auto iso setting.
I understand your mix up with Vignetting and Cross Polarization, but one of the problems with filters is ALSO vignetting. But you didn't actually talk about that at all. In your opinion and testing, is ther vignetting on any of these filters, and if so, how do you feel it affects picture quality. Also, surprised you didn't include standard brands like Hyoa, B+W or Tiffen. In addition, does the magnetic lens cap fall of easily? My primary problem with lens caps is how easily the fall off, and the PPND with the rubberize lens cap seems like it would both protect better and stay on more consistently. In use, what difference did you notice if any?
Hey! One of the reasons I didn’t get into vignetting more in depth is because none of them had any issues. I mentioned at one point that I was using a 67-77mm step up ring and had no issues with vignetting. Sorry I wasn’t more clear on that. Hopefully the test shots also showed that. As far as including other brands, I chose these three because of the way that they were all laid out (2-5 and 6-9), the fact that they were available to me, the fact that these are the ones people ask me about, and I thought 3 brands was probably already going to be a pretty long video (I was right haha) As far as lens caps go, the magnetic ones will fall off if you go to pull them out of a bag that’s tugging on them, but tbh, I have the same issue with regular lens caps too. The PolarPro PM caps are definitely a bit more secure but I’ve also heard people talk about them falling off as well... mine are personally nice and snug but something to consider! Thanks for all your questions!
I'm happy to be watching a video where I own the product. LOL. Usually you encourage me to buy more stuff. FYI - I love the Polar Pro Peter McKinnon filter.
Great video. I would most definitely buy the Freewell. Do the people that buy the Peter McKinnon Polarpro in the fancy box keep the box as a souvenir, or do they throw it in the trash like most people? If I had to keep the packaging for all the stuff I purchased, I would have to be living in Buckingham Palace.
Hey Dunna. I have been kicking around getting the peter McKinnon filters. The problem is that I have been happy with my K&F Concept variable ND filters.
I’m pretty sure on Moment’s video for their VND (EOS R with RF 24-105mm f4 - 77mm 2-5vnd) you can put the original cap onto the VND, thats why the diameter is larger than the other filters etc
Ah yes, that would have to do with the polarization like we saw in my tests, it may vary a little outside though! Thanks for the suggestion, if I can sneak that in another video i will!
Love the Polar Pro packaging...it’s a nice bonus but all I really care about is the best possible image quality - for what I can afford...nice packaging is never a serious selling point for me...thanks!
Something to consider for upcoming videos. The camera above has your perspective, but when you join it with the front camera, which has our perspective, everything turns and tides. Maybe next time if we see you from the front, the camera above should also have the viewer's perspective. Thanks for the video, very good!
The polar pro 6-9 was clearly the best as long as you are not going super wide. Colour shift was almost zero. So if you need that much (high iso log shooting) probably best to go for that.
Hi! So it looks like the cross polarization is pretty big problem for wide angle lenses and variable ND filters in general. If we wanted to use a wide angle lens with an ND filter, should we get a fixed ND filter then? I'm definitely leaning towards the Freewell ND filters, but wondering if should just get the freewell magnetic fixed filters to avoid this problem if we want to vlog on the wide lenses.
I was about to buy the tiffen variable nd because didn't knew this freewell models existed! And because it gives you 2 - 8 stops so I thought it was a good compromise of price and quality. I'm going to be using it mostly with the tamron 17-28 2.8 and with a sigma 35 1.4, so I think that for daylight and well lit scenarios I should buy the freewell 6 - 9 stops, right? Also I have the 4 kit nd's for the gopro 7 and I really liked them, so they seem to be the best for the buck!
So glad I watched this. Great comparison, thanks a lot. I think I will go with the freewells, I really don't mind if they soften the image a little as the a7iii and Sony lenses are super sharp anyway
Would it be a good Idea to buy a step up ring to the maximun diameter (82mm) so I can have a one size fits all type of approach?. I would only need to buy one size filters for all my lenses makes senses?
Variable ND filters basically work make making the polarization angle between each glass piece more and more cross, but those dark spots appear because the polarization direction does not remain uniform throughout the glass, probably due to limits in the tolerance of the manufacturing.
I get a horrible brown color cast with my PM when I have bright skies. Ordered the Freewells after trying out a pair that my friend had purchased. Picked up 2 for less than 1 PM. Now if I can just find someone to buy my PM’s. Lol
Which one would you pick up? Moment, Freewell or Polar Pro/Peter McKinnon?

Ah yes, that would have to do with the polarization like we saw in my tests, it may vary a little outside though! Thanks for the suggestion, if I can sneak that in another video i will!
Love the Polar Pro packaging...it’s a nice bonus but all I really care about is the best possible image quality - for what I can afford...nice packaging is never a serious selling point for me...thanks!
I don't think you're alone in that!
Something to consider for upcoming videos.
The camera above has your perspective, but when you join it with the front camera, which has our perspective, everything turns and tides. Maybe next time if we see you from the front, the camera above should also have the viewer's perspective.
Thanks for the video, very good!
Haha funny thing is that shot was flipped too so I could have done it that way! Thanks for the suggestion!
Always good videos as always, what tripod do you use in that video?
Kindly make video on how to calculate the f stops and how to use them with nd. Kind of how to use nd filter in depth . Thanks in advance
great video, waiting for your moment vs polarpro iphone vnd filters review!
You might be waiting a while, I’m not much of a mobile photo/video accessories user.
Nice one Dunna! Definitely helpful! Thanks dude!
Thanks homie!
That’s definitely a route you could take! The freewell magnetic filters are great for that because they’re still nice and quick to change.
Yeah I’d probably go 6-9 👍🏻😁
Cheers mate, very useful and thorough test. That helped me make a decision.
So glad I watched this. Great comparison, thanks a lot. I think I will go with the freewells, I really don't mind if they soften the image a little as the a7iii and Sony lenses are super sharp anyway
Hi from Kyiv Ukraine. Freewell have introduced 95mm now too. Freewell these are the ones I use
Nice!!
Would it be a good Idea to buy a step up ring to the maximun diameter (82mm) so I can have a one size fits all type of approach?.
I would only need to buy one size filters for all my lenses makes senses?
That’s exactly what I suggest! Step up rings for every lens is a lot cheaper than filters for every lens.
Lol
Well I'm glad you're liking the Freewells!
Just ordered the freewell
Noice!!
