@@lukeredpath9 it actually shows you the refresh rate if you turn it on in developer options and according to it it only goes from 60 to 120. I know they said it goes from 10 to 120 but when your phone screen is on according to it it only goes from 60 to 120 and if you turn on the force 120 it stays at 120. I don't know if maybe it goes to 10 when the screen is off or something. But I can't get it to do anything but 60 or 120 according to the refresh rate counter that it shows on the screen that you can turn on in developer options.
I noticed that throughout this video his battery percentage went down by 5%. I have done the maths so every 5 minutes and 48 seconds, there is a one percent decrease.
One thing I've noticed they got rid of that was really useful was pulling down notification menu and taping on the clock would pull up alarm/clock settings. That's gone with 12.
Google messed up with a lot of important stuff which are present on every other phone . Some of which are inbuilt app lock, ringer mode changer in notif panel, dual apps, app blur in recents , and many others.
the toggle is to scale from a max 60hz refresh rate to a max of 120hz. The advertised 10hz to 120hz means that the phone downclocks its refresh rate automatically to conserves battery life when possible. Say you were looking a static image, the phone could downclock the refresh rate to 10hz as 120hz is not necessary for a static image and would waste battery.

power+volume up also brings up the power menu
Exactly, when you activate the Power Button Assistant gesture it mentions that now the Power+ Vol Up is the Power menu shortcut. This works on all Android 12 devices.
Normally this sets the phone to vibrate
I really wish they would let you switch back to the old way when they decide to change the way features work.
You can also switch it back to the power option
You can also get to it by sliding down the notification bar twice to get to your toggle panel and will be in their as well
Thank you for helping me with the press and hold function. I don't use Google Assistant at all and just wanted my old power button to work correctly. That tip alone is worth the other nine. Thank you
Idk if you can on the pixel 6 but the S10+ I had allowed you to register the same finger more than once which helped a LOT with accuracy problems, might be worth a try by any annoyed with the in screen print reader :)
14:38 - you can also get to power menu by pressing Vol Up & Power simultaneously.
Just got mine today. Loving it so far. I do wish Google kept the physical fingerprint scanner or if take it off from the back add it on with the power button. But so far other than that I am loving this device
My Pixel 6 256g, will replace me Lumia 950 today. So many of these new Features we have add on Window Phones for 7 years. Good to see I am not loosing much.
I found the fingerprint reader on the Pixel 6 Pro to be much faster than the fingerprint reader on my Galaxy 20+. Has anyone done any 5G bandwidth latency comparisons with the Pixel 6 Pro?
Google assistant corner is available to turn on in Settings - System - Gestures - System Navigation - choose the settings wheel with Gestures Navigation selected and turn on "swipe up from corner" to invoke assistant.
Just waiting to grab this! I've been holding onto my old phone just waiting for Xfinity Mobile to carry a Pixel. They never got the 5 but now I see both 6's will be offered right away.
14:00 "If you like the [Assistant] gesture ..." - it's still available if you go here: System > Gestures > System Navigation > Gear > Check "swipe to invoke assistant"
14:35 - "Where's the power menu?" - similar to iPhone, it's power + volume up (that said, two buttons seems silly to me to shut off the phone, so I put it back to power button only)
Thanks man. I always appreciate these First 10 things videos. Especially when I'm buying a new device I basically always know you'll have one of these if it's a major flagship. I pre ordered the Pro in white and am super excited to get it (hopefully Thursday).
I preordered a white for myself and yellow for my wife through Verizon, I got confirmation earlier they were shipped and my delivery date is tomorrow. Keep an eye on your email and enjoy!
In Power Button Assistant mode, you can access the power menu by holding the power button and volume up button.
How you liking yours? I got mine and luv it but it did crash one time where I had to hold the power button for 30 seconds.
@@latino914 haven't activated it yet. But I'm just very familiar with Android.
@@traviswieser gotcha yeah I'm coming from a LG G6 which is 4 years old now and it hardly ever crashes. Who knows it could be android 12 since it is still new.
@@latino914 yeah there will definitely be some bugs early on. They'll fix it quickly.
Is active edge gone for activating the assistant? I'm still using a Pixel 4 XL until my Pixel 6 Pro arrives.
Yes, it is gone
Bro that's been gone since last year 🤣
Yes it's gone. Honestly one of the best features about a Pixel phone
This was the best review of this phone I've seen. Thanks
I did notice if you enable developer options you can force the 120 Hz all the time. I couldn't really tell a difference because it does such a good job of switching between 60 and 120 but just thought it would be good to share it with people who might want to enable that ✌️
It actually switches from 10 - 120 which is even better if you can't notice it
@@lukeredpath9 it actually shows you the refresh rate if you turn it on in developer options and according to it it only goes from 60 to 120.
@@jhcccc it goes below 60 but the developer thing can't show below 60
@@jhcccc yes it will only go as low as 60 in use. But will drop to 10 when not in use which makes me wonder if it really matters?
@@Pkilla80 it doesn't it saves so little battery life. Having dark mode alone saves more battery.
New subscriber, great review.
Pro Tip: Disable 5G. Day two with the Pro got me 9.5 hours according to Accubattery
...if you don't need fast internet access 😅
@@stefan_becker in the closest 100k pop. city LTE is faster than 5G 🤷♂️
All these reviews have nothing negative to say about this phone, Something Fishy going on there
I noticed that throughout this video his battery percentage went down by 5%. I have done the maths so every 5 minutes and 48 seconds, there is a one percent decrease.
yep , in heavish use it is about average with other phones , nothing out of the ordinary.
These tips came in handy appreciate it 🔥
One thing I've noticed they got rid of that was really useful was pulling down notification menu and taping on the clock would pull up alarm/clock settings. That's gone with 12.
I think that's a bug and maybe its unnoticed. Report it to google they prob. would add it in after an update.
Agree, but there's separate quick toggle called "alarm" available (or something like that) that will open clock app
You can add a home button and a back button in the home screen settings
Thanks for this video. One thing I'm going to actually miss from the Pixel 3 is squeezy sides. I really got used to that feature.
I LOVED that feature
Same here. I use that all the dang time on my Pixel 4 XL!
I use that every morning on my 2xl to snooze my alarms lol
Absolutely. Much more useful than this annoying fingerprint sensor
Great channel. Always feels so comfortable with your mood. Strange to mention I know ...lol
Why not let me use quick tap to turn on my flashlight? Would be a great gesture!
Xiaomi phones have a double click on the power button to turn on flashlight. No need to unlock the phone or wake the screen.
@@pijesz samsung phones too
Google messed up with a lot of important stuff which are present on every other phone . Some of which are inbuilt app lock, ringer mode changer in notif panel, dual apps, app blur in recents , and many others.
Watching this on my Pixel 6 Pro 😁
Always find these first ten things videos super helpful. Thanks Kellen!
First #1 thing to do:. Download the latest software update.
18:55 On smooth display it says that it only goes from 60Hz to 120Hz, but on their website they say that it goes from 10Hz to 120Hz, why?
the toggle is to scale from a max 60hz refresh rate to a max of 120hz. The advertised 10hz to 120hz means that the phone downclocks its refresh rate automatically to conserves battery life when possible. Say you were looking a static image, the phone could downclock the refresh rate to 10hz as 120hz is not necessary for a static image and would waste battery.
The 10Hz is for always on display. Samsung does that with the note 9 too
Why was the launch of the pixel 6 pro so devastatingly bad?! I ordered an hour into the live reveal and I still don't have it yet. And now FedEx is playing games. 🥵
I appreciate this video so much. I am upgrading from a galaxy s8 and I needed this crash course. Thanks again!
They should have went with a flat display and left the fingerprint reader. If anything just move it to the power button.
fingerprint sensors placed at the power button are so awful, my gf has a phone where it is placed there and it is so awful. I think the best thing would be an indisplay sensor but no optical like in the pixel 6 but a ultra sonic sensor.
@@aigapol123 I like it more
Was wondering if the pixel 6s have stereo speakers 🔊 🤔?
They do!
@@akhil1781 OK thanks, I'm in the process of getting one at best buy
Suggest you turn on Adaptive Sound. It's much more balanced between the two speakers.
Really not liking that in screen reader. Wish Google just stuck with rear reader
As someone coming from a Pixel with none...it will be welcome for me.
It absolutely refuses to read my left thumb. I'm hating it so far...SMH
@@dually81 there's always an update pushed upon official release. Hopefully your issue will be fixed in a few days.
My last phone was a OnePlus 7t. That also had an in screen fingerprint reader. That one was way better. The one on the pixel 6 is really slow and sometimes just doesn't work. That's about the only annoying thing I've found so far on this phone.
@@GalaxyNexus1 Wow!!! The update just pushed through for me and now the fingerprint scanner is flawless
And now--if you can demonstrate how to remove the Google Search Bar: Priceless!
Right!
With that finger action, you look like a person who has never set up a new fingerprint.
Loved the video! Thank you for it!!
Coming from Oneplus, I love the camera(which is why I got it) but I miss the OnePlus UI, it is by far the best.
Same here! But since OP is changing/merging with Oppo's I think those days are over.
And it's a chunky/boxy phone. Have to get used to it.
2 finger swipe down to get the whole quick settings menu so you don't have to swipe down twice.
Oh shit!! I forgot out about this pro tip! Thank you!!!
Got mine saturday. Still getting used to such a large device again. May have to switch to the regular 6.
Telephoto camera worth it? Screen worth it? It's barely a little taller. All other dimensions are nearly the same
@@rodneyjsilva I'm not sure at the moment. Get a regular 6 in a couple days for the wife. I'll use it for a day and decide. I'll try to report back.
@@rodneyjsilva the telephoto camera and screen are great though, for sure. Should've mentioned that. Just need to see if it's worth the size difference.

How'd you get yours before release day?
I have the Pixel 6 pro. You can activate the Google Assistant from the corners. The settings are system navigation under gestures navigation.
10 things. nearly 30 minutes of video. 🤔
Thank you for this posting. You did an excellent job. It is giving me a good idea of what to expect when I get my phone that is on order.
Its absolutely mind blowing there is no face unlock...what were they thinking? Even cheap mid rangers have that feature
you mean an extremely un secure method of security?
I agree I wanted to try a pixel 6 pro coming from a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 but the lack of face unlock is utterly unacceptable.
Kellen Awesome Video. Thanks so much Deb ✌️
Wish this had timestamps
I guess the first thing to do is get a freaking case! This thing is crafted mainly to slide and slip as if the hardware team was given a target to make it as oily as possible and they did that well!
It is the ideal frictionless surface :)
Oneplus fans will now move to pixel devices, oxygen os is gone
Already have going for pixel 6, OnePlus phones are really good to be honest
Solid video. Thanks! How did you get the weather/52 degrees displayed on your screen?
add the weather widget to your homescreen
That sucks about the fingerprint reader. Really sucks.
What sucks? Seams to work decent.
I do wish it was on back. Just used to that

Those notifications are brutal. Who's the genius that thought big ugly notifications was the way to go?
they arent notification, they are the quick settings buttons. The notifications usually show below that but he didnt have any
This was great. Thanks for posting. Just what I was looking for for when the 6 arrives tomorrow.
Very helpful video .. thanks for making it.
Hi thanks for your effort but I was wondering how did you manage to put 5 icons on home screen in my case I can only put 4 only
Long press on the home screen, click select Wallpaper and Style. Once that comes up scroll to the bottom and there's a grid selector. Choose 5x5.
FYI you can still turn on the corner Assistant gesture. It's off by default. Personally I don't mind holding down the power button because honestly who fully turns off their phone nowadays? If you really need to you can just do the power+volume thing and it works fine, and there's also an option in the notification shade.
Great video, thanks!
Does it still have that annoying slight zoom for the background you set?
Thanks I’ll have to watch this a few times!!
Great. But I have a question. What did you do to have a lot quick setting?
Power is also accessible if you press the Power and Volume Up buttons at the same time!
Very helpfull video. Thanks!
Hmm, does double-tap work for a screenshot even if you have a case on it?
Yeah it does, I have a case on mine and it still works, I even have more of a heavy duty case it works perfectly fine.
It is fabulous for eye strain. Beats the heck out of my Samsung S10 and my wife's new Motorola edge I have vision problems and couldn't even read my Samsung at night for about 5 minutes until I adjusted. With this I can grab it at 3 a.m., it's already adjusted itself and I can read better than a Kindle.
Sorry, have to do it:
You: Imagine my hand is my face
Me: High five!
This is very helpful. Can't wait for mine to arrive
