I loved how every predator that hunts the Lionfish have their own way on how to land the kill blow. Grouper and Sharks aims for the head, Eel and Barracuda aims for the side and Octopus latches it's tentacles carefully around the fish.
how does grouper eat the lion fish? I feel like it is the only one that has literally no teeth and cant seperate the prey, they swallow their food in whole.
The Lionfish are an invasive species here in the Gulf and Atlantic. They have contests to capture them off of the reefs in Fl. If you ever get a chance to eat Lionfish by all means do it. Deliscious tender beautiful white meat. Yummy.
How does the eel not get poked by the lionfish spines? Those spines will penetrate almost anything. Now we need to release your eel into the Gulf to spread the word about the tasty prey.
They don't kill enough to prevent them proliferating. One lionfish can lay 5 million eggs a year. There's not enough sharks, eels, or grouper to stem the tide. Man has to do what we do best. Kill. Kill the lionfish.
Interesting, did the eel survive? Is this Moray from the Atlantic/Mediterranian. If so, It might be the first predator to hunt invasive lionfish. Although not recorded in the wild, and you also mentioned this happened after introduction of new lionfish to the tank, so maybe it was more an attack than a hunt? I am wondering if the Moray didn't get any venom from the spikes..
Moray does eat lionfish, also only cause the spikes are toxic it does not mean it kills everything that touches it. Manets have toxic tentacles yet turtles eat them.
Yeah, it’s only if the spikes puncture them that it’s venomous/poisonous. Some fish have learned how to eat them in a way that the spikes don’t get in the way and others just eat the parts that are vulnerable where there are no spikes
