Hi Kelly! Im from Ontario Canada. Thanks for sharing your tips.we have giant. Annanbelles and Im wondering if we should cut them back now or in the spring. In your video you did mention both. Thank you.
Viewing from Kyneton Victoria Australia. I have Annabelles across the south side of our house. They are wonderful, just get late afternoon sun. Thankyou for your expertise. Beverley
I'm so glad I found you! So many wonderful tips and simple explanations and ideas. I have been feeling overwhelmed and worried of how to care for our newer Annabelle Hydrangeas.
Hi from NE Ohio! My sil and I were each gifted giant Annabelle bushes in full bloom at n midsummer. I immediately trimmed mine back to encourage root growth. My sil did no trimming. Both of our bushes thrived! Hers, of course, kept its gorgeous blooms. I had no idea how resilient these Annabelles are! As she’s gone for four months, I’ll be (carefully) trimming both of our bushes. Thanks for these tips!
Hello from La Jolla, CA✌🏼I just planted an Annabelle hydrangea in my front yard garden and it’s so beautiful, I absolutely love it.🤍 It’s a new plant for me so I’ve been learning how to take care of it so it can live it’s best life. Your Annabelle’s look wonderful, I’m feeling inspired! Thank you for this helpful and very informative Annabelle video. 💯
Thank you for this info. I’m new to hydrangeas and the Annabelle is my first. I pruned her back pretty hard twice and she’s about 4’ tall but I will just let her grow at will now. Can’t wait to see how big she gets next year!
We are in West Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, in the gorgeous Okanagan Valley! Really appreciate your factual and concise tips! Your Annabelles are beautiful!!
Hi Kelly. I used to live in East Windsor and Lawrenceville, NJ not far from your neck of the woods. We've moved to Tennessee and our new home has what I think are Annabelles in front. It's some kind of hydrangea with a white head. Anyway, I don't see any new growth yet so tomorrow I'm getting out the pruners! Thanks for the info.
This is great news. Leaving the stems would logically make them thicker. Hoping my Incrediballs grow to a normal shrub height. I don't mind if the blooms are smaller a)because there are so many the effect is still great, and b) they won't be so heavy after a rain. Gosh, after 3 years, I hope this works. Thanks for the video (Z7 Vancouver, Canada)💚
I haven't pruned my beautiful Annabelle Hydrangea in about 10 years. It's like 16' high and 8' across. It's loaded with blooms and very sturdy. I originally had it in my front walkway and moved it about 10 years ago because it was loaded with bees. (at that time I pruned it hard, down to waist height. and now it's gigantic) Oh, I'm in Connecticut, close to NY
Hi Art , so fun to hear about your Annabelle pruning history. I love to compare pruning stories to see what works for other gardeners 👏👏😊 . I used to prune way back too but now I’m on team “ never pruning them back again if I don’t have too” . I love the sturdier stems too on the unpruned Annabelles .
I prune my Annabelle in late winter to 12” tall. I’m in Zone 8A, Atlanta, GA. They are 9 years old and the blooms were absolutely breathtaking at 12 to 13” wide! This was a great year! ❤
I am very pleased to have found this video! I have just planted hydrangeas this year (paniculata diamant rouge) and was planning to prune them come December. I'm going to just leave them to go wild and bloom as they please now :) lovely channel 💚💕💚💕💚 (btw, I'm in the UK)
Hey Kim . Thanks for checking in from the UK 👋🌍 I agree with you about holding off on pruning your hydrangea if it looks good. Is yours in bloom now with the striking red color ?
@@KellyLehman The blossoms are just turning pink now. This is the first time I've grown them in my garden 💕 just love them!! (I think they do go darker red)
Hi! California here😎 I love hydrangeas. I tried potting them & died. Then I planted some last year in the front garden. After planting them, they didn’t give a lot of flowers. However, this spring I noticed green leaves growing & I’m already getting blooms. I’m so excited! Thank you for your tips! Hopefully, they’ll give more blooms this year.
Hello from the UK. I have two in a pot that have very browning leaves. Hoping once I get them in the ground and all should be ok. Thanks for the advice
Will the Annabelles get sturdier with age? Mine come up beautifully every year but the first heavy rain of the spring/summer will take them out and they’ll flop over and never stand up again. 😞 I try and stake them up but I can’t seem to get it right. Could you do a video about how to stake flopped-over Annabelles? TY
Thanks, Kelly for your video, I have some very large Annabelles - was looking for tips to hold them up, they are pretty strong stems but are falling forward. I am in Kingston Ontario and they love the sunny morning location with afternoon shade.
Hi Bonnie , the lime green color will develop whether you prune them or not . Annabelle hydrangeas are similar to limelight hydrangeas in that they start out with white blooms that turn to shades of green in late summer . Annabelles get super lime green 🌸🤗
I never ever prune my Annabelles and I always get big, bushy flowers! I am in Zone 5B in Ontario. I do cut some dried blooms in fall and use them in my fall & winter containers :)
We had to leave our big Anabelle hydrangea back but I was able to bring along a baby plant from her. I think we will be putting Anabelle in our back yard. I will be getting the Proven Winner ones they also have a dwarf size one so might think what size to get. Yours are beautiful Kelly just stunning. A lot of wonderful information very helpful and I can’t wait to use your tips for flowers arrangements.😃💐💚💚💚💚💚💚
Ohhhh let me know the name of the mini Annabelle. Sounds like something id like to grow in the smaller areas of the garden.looking forward to following your awesome tips too!!!! You guys are growing so fast ! 👏👏🌺
Kelly Lehman Hi Kelly!!! 😃💚 I just planted Invincibelle Limettas a little smaller than the original Annabelle and there is another much smaller called Invincibelle Wee White. They are all beautiful! Hope you get to add them to your garden. There is always room for more specially hydrangeas lol. Have a wonderful and most beautiful day! 😃💐💚💚💚💚💚💚
@@GardenObsessions Oh you are just the best! i hadn't heard of these guys yet. Do they bloom early in the season like Annabelle or later in the season light the limelight hydrangeas? Love your garden know how. You guys are the pros. xoxoxox
Kelly Lehman They bloom summer through fall. Im going to keep my eyes on them because in NC everything bloomed so early for me in warmer weather. It’s a little cooler here in Virginia, so curious on how they will do. And thank you Kelly you are the sweetest! You encourage me to keep going and follow my dreams every day. Just watched your video on pruning Annabelle hydrangeas. Very useful to know. I live in a Kent in the UK. I have just planted 3 Annabelle which were very weak limbed when I bought them. Would your pruning tips apply to our climate in the Spring time? I love hydrangeas but alas this last year has been flowerless as at the beginning of Lockdown here during the COVID pandemic the garden got a good tidy up and I was a bit over zealous when cutting back the hydrangeas! Totally my fault and I knew what would happen. Still next year they will hopefully give us as much pleasure as they always do. Thanks for sharing your useful tips.
Hi Barbara, thank you for your hydrangea question 👏 Yep, these tips apply to your neck of the woods too. If the Annabelles are still looking soundly next early spring , I would prune them back to about 2 feet to give them a slight recharging. The two feet you leave on will help support the new stems that come in . Happy gardening 🌸🌸
Viewing from Ohio. Had to hard prune my Annabelles because noxious weed was choking some of them. They also had thin stems and a rain knocked them all over. So now that pruned to address the weed, I thought I would apply some cedar mulch after pulling the weeds. Should I do anything else to protect them?
Sounds like a good hydrangea plan to me . The only other thing you need to do is to keep up with the watering on the hot August says . I’ll bet you will have great blooms next year !
Have you heard of the variety called Incrediball by Proven Winners? They are supposed to be similar to Annabelles but the stems are stronger so they are not supposed to flop . 🌸🌸
Hi Kelly, I love my Annabelle’s. I have used mine in many a wedding design as well as bouquets I bring in my home. I am going to plant a few more bushes in between as I ❤️ how yours look. 🤗
Hey Corinne, I’ll bet they made amazing wedding flowers . Did you cut them in the fresh or dried stage for those ? Great idea to plant more of these Annabelle hydrangeas . They are so gorgeous and low maintenance. Thanks for your comment 🌸😊

I live in Charleston,SC an have a Anna belle, but I didn't plant it, it was here when we moved here. , it was planted in the wrong spot an gets hot afternoon sun, but it still blooms pretty well.It is about 25 years old an afraid to move it, any suggestions? Enjoyed your video very much
If its blooming so pretty i would consider leaving it be. However, if you have to move it due to a new landscaping plan or project, i found this information for you online ..... The best time for hydrangea transplanting is just after the bushes have gone dormant in the autumn. This means the flowers have all died back and most, or all, of the leaves have dropped. In cooler climates, the best time for moving hydrangea bushes is November, when the bush is dormant but the ground is not yet frozen solid. In warmer climates where the ground doesn’t freeze, you can do your hydrangea transplanting between December and February. While these are the best times for moving hydrangea bushes, you can really do it any time during the year without killing the plant, provided it’s not in the heat of summer. Hi...I am from Union, NJ. We don't have the Annabelle, but we have a blue hydrangea like you see down the shore but it hasn't bloomed in years. It's in full sun, southern exposure and this year I'm not cleaning it up in the spring. I'm just letting it be. I usually get rid of dead stuff but maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Carol G Hi Carol. Thanks for checking in from Union NJ 👋🌎. It sounds like you May have a Nikki hydrangea . You are smart not to cut it back this coming season since the Nikki hydrangea blooms grow on old wood with blooms set from the season before . This means if you prune it back in spring , you risk pruning off all the new blooms . I made a hydrangea video explaining this on my hydrangea playlist in this channel . Welcome to our Flower Tribe 🌸🌸😊
I'm in Vancouver BC and have one Annabelle out in front of the house. I love this Hydrangea, however i just wish it was tougher! They fall over so easily with inclement weather which can be frustrating. I do my best to keep it upright by tying. Maybe these do better as a hedge???
Thank you. This video is very informational. I would like to ask how far apart did you space them to form the hedge.? It looks as if you have them planted close. I would like to plant a hedge of them myself. They are beautiful! Thanks, I am from Michigan :)
Hey there Lisa, thanks for checking in from Michigan 🌍👋 I planted these gals a few years ago when they were much smaller. They were planted about 3-4 feet apart from each other and then filled out to the much larger plants you see in this video . Good luck planting yours . I am sure you will love them . They enjoy morning sun and afternoon shade.
I’m from Suffolk in England. I’ve had 2 years of growth with my Annabelles but this year the leaves started to die off. I’ve taken all the leaves off this September and there’s new growth. Should I have pruned them back mid summer to stop the leaves browning? I have watered them all summer because we don’t get much rain here. I’m afraid I’ve planted them in full sun all day but here the temperature doesn’t go much higher than 22/25 degrees.
Kelly, Hi I'm Kevin from Kansas. I have two smaller hydrangeas we planted one last year and one a couple of years ago. They do not seem to get as tall as yours. The are on the north side of our house. Could location be the reason they are so close to the ground. They do get the big flowers on them. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Should I cut off the dead flowers from last year? I have no new growth as of now.
Hi Kelly - great videos! I'm in Georgian Bay, Ontario where it's a colder zone than you. My Annabelles are amazing as well and I agree, they're easy to maintain and gorgeous all around the property
Thanks for the tips! I leave the dried flower over winter. Should I prune the dried flowers off in the Spring or leave them? I did prune last Spring, but want to try not pruning this yr.
Either way is fine . The new hydrangea blooms will come in regardless of whether you prune the old hydrangea blooms back or not . I’ve had years where I just couldn’t get to deadheading the dried hydrangeas off the plant and the new blooms just took over 🌸🤗
You can leave the flowers on until spring. In Washington DC I cut them all the way down just as she described. Once the daffodis bloom and the Forsythia bloom, I cut down the Annabelle to about 18"
HI from Chicago, IL. So, if we do not prune, that means we don't touch them at all after they bloom? No cutting back or down--just leave them long throughout the winter?
Kelly, new subscriber here from Kennebunk, Maine. I have 8 Annabelles in the bed in front of my house. Come the warm weather, these things get huge with big white blooms. Then, they start flopping over and look messy, especially after a rain storm. How can I support these so they don't start bending over? Should I wrap a coard arount them to hold them together so they support each other? They grow really fast. I found your video very informative, thank you! Best regards, Arik Boleli, Kennebunk, Maine.
Hi I’m thinking of planting annabelles and limelight’s. However I have lots of clay soil and I’m afraid to spend the money only to have them die in my type soil. I love in NJ as well. What do you recommend on planting these with my soil?
Great hydrangea question . Hydrangeas need well drained soil so you can amend the clay soil by adding homegrown compost, bagged compost or composted manure .🌸🤗
Hello, this is the most helpful video I have found about Annabelle hydrangeas! I planted my Annabelle hydrangeas about four years ago and the blooms have only gotten smaller and smaller. Now the biggest ones are only about 4 inches. I don’t like the look of the small blooms, I want those really big beautiful blooms! So I’m guessing it is probably the fact that I haven’t really pruned them? Would there be other reasons for this? Also, it has gotten down to the 30s and 40s here in Michigan, so my hydrangea flowers and leaves are all brown and I can’t stand the sight of them! Can I prune them down now to 18 inches since it’s already in the 30s and 40s here? I just don’t think I can stand leaving them brown all winter ha ha 😖
Hi There Sophia , so happy you unlocked the mystery to getting those large giant Annabelle flower heads . Most gardening sites I’ve been on recommend waiting until late winter or early spring but I know Michigan is ahead of most of the country with the cold weather game . I think it’s ok to prune them back now since chances are temps won’t be warming up again to trigger a growth spurt . Wishing you soccer ball sized hydrangea flowers this spring 💃💃💃😊😊
Hello again :-) so, with a twist of fate, I ended up not pruning my hydrangeas, because the weather did end up going up and down again! So currently, they are still not pruned. Now, this week we have weather that will be in the upper 40s, we had one or two days last week that was in the upper 40s. Would this be a good time to prune them?
Hello! You said in the fall video to prune the hydrangeas back 18 - 24 inches in late winter before new growth. Then in the summer video you said to prune back in late fall to 18 - 24 inches. Can you tell me which is correct? I have Incrediballs and it will be their second winter.
I am from middle Georgia. I thought I had to wait til late winter to prune my Annabelle hydrangeas. Late summer the Annabelle flower heads are. Brown from Georgia 's brutal heat in August Through the winter it is ugly. So if I understand right, I can prune the Annabelles now?!
Greetings from Fort Atkinson, WI My Annabelle Hydrangea is in it's second year with lots of good sized flowers. However, most of the branches are laying down because of strong winds. The flowers are also very close to the leaves. Appreciate some help on handle this problem.
Great hydrangea questions . Yes Annabelle hydrangeas are also considered to be smooth hydrangeas . I have mine in morning sun and afternoon shade but they can take more sun than that . Annabel hydrangeas can also be grown in partial shade but the blooms may be a little smaller then the hydrangeas grown in 8 hours or more of sun each day
Hello I am from Colorado. I have two plants of Annabelle hydrangeas that are not blooming. Even after the third season. They have beautiful leaves with a nice size plant with no bloom. These plants get morning sun. I also have the Annabelle hydrangeas in my backyard and they both bloomed this year. They get the afternoon sun. Any tips for my front plants?
Annabelle is so droopy. Anything you do special to keep, them from falling over? Thinking about replacing with more Proven Winner varieties. I’ve tried leaving the older stalks to help hold them up, but one strong storm and they are down.
Ahhhh great question . I usually have luck with the method you are currently using where you leave a potion of last years stems in tact to add support . Have you tried not pruning them at all for even more structural suppport ? Most years I don’t prune my annabelles at all and the blooms are still amazing and not too floppy . I have heard that the Incrdediball variety From Proven Winners does have the sturdier stems you spoke about . One last thought is to us a peony cage if the bush is not that large . Good luck 🍀 🌸
liked your video found it helpful BUT we need help determining what type of hydrangeas we have in our newly bought house. We live in Belleville Ontario Canada , is there a way you might be able to help us identify which type is in the yard ?
Hi Neil, the comment below this one is from a Flower Tribe member who is also from Ontario Canada ( In Campbellford ) small world 😀. Your question is fabulous and i am going to make a video inspired by your comment . I will identify as many of my hydrangeas as i can on my farm and show what they look in spring as the leaves start to show and then ill show what they look like in summer with their blooms in tact . I'm sure this video will be very helpful for lots of flower tribe members ! Yay you !!. I hope to have. it up in the next three weeks .
Love the videos! Do you have a spray when I cut my blooms when green but have a few brown spots? I'd love to find something to spray to uniform color for an arrangement in my home all year. Thx!
Hey Becky, super hydrangea question . I usually pluck or cut out the brown petals with a small scissor . You can use a floral spray paint on the fresh cut blooms to help the color . I have some listed on my amazon shop page
Hi! I am in Vernon NJ.. I planted a little hedge of Incrediball Hydrangeas in September and now they’re coming back up. They were only gallon size so I was wondering how quickly they may grow in a season?
Hi Kim how are you fellow garden state flower friend 😊🌸? I’ve never grown the Incrediball variety but hear they are great . Sorry I can’t give advice on how long it takes to mature . Most hydrangeas take a few years to get established with lots of blooms. They are usually worth the wait . 😊🌸
Super question . I’m curious about what happens to them by you in January and Feb. Do the blooms fade and dry out ? If so, I would just give it a good deadheading by cutting the old blooms out by following the stems down a few sets of leaves and cutting just above a fresh set set of leaves and leaving the bulk of the plant in place so it can form new flowers . I have never tried this with flowers from you region though . I would ask a flower specialist at your local garden center for the best practices for this plant . 🤗🤗🌸
I'm so glad I found this channel. Just moved to Ohio. And just caught the hydrangea bug. I will be planting copious amounts of Annabelle and Limelight, as well as a few others. Do you have any suggestions about good companions to go around them? I have mostly full sun locations, so I am curious about other things to plant to provide that afternoon shade. Thanks for all the good info.
@@sue8064, I planted Rose of Sharon to the West and hydrangea to the east. They are all still really little so not sure if it's a success. I am surprised to see the stems from last year seem completely dead. New growth is from the ground on the Hydrangeas. The rose of Sharon are just now leafing out. Hopefully this year everything will establish really well. By the way, thanks for the info. I won't hesitate to dot them in without worry of too much Sun.
@@yLeprechaun sounds gorgeous - hope it works out! Lol, hydrangea stems are such tricksters sometimes, toying with my occasional "OCD" - I've learned to wait until leaves are well on their way before I try cleaning up the dead stems :)
@@sue8064 yeah! I left mine on the hydrangeas that were here when we bought because they only had one bloom each last year. After watching Kelly's video I was convinced they were an old wood blooming variety. But as the Spring progresses and the new growth emerges, I'm not so sure.
Kelly, Love your flowers. I live in Northeast Alabama on a lake. We are getting ready to landscape our lake house and need some suggestions on what type of hydrangeas to plant? Can you help me?
Hi Kelly, I found your channel a few weeks ago and love your videos, great style and very informative. I’m dying to know how far apart your Annabelle hydrangeas are planted?
Super hydrangea Byron 👏😀. I planted them about 4-6 feet apart many years ago knowing they would get large and i didn't want them to be overcrowded. They also self propogate sometimes so the extra space between them was great . Happy Planting 😀👏🌻
Hi Kelly, thank you your video is more informative than any other I have found on pruning my Annabelle Hydrangeas. I also did not prune mine in the fall and now it is too late. Every year my husband threatens to dig them up unless I figure out what to do with them. They do seem overgrown...the base is so wide. Is there anything I can do?
This is a great video Thank you so much for doing this! I have a large row of these in front of my house and they're absolutely amazing right now but some of them are getting a little crazy lol. Could I prune these back a little bit selectively and still get flowers through the rest of the summer? Rob from Morris County NJ :)
Hey Kelly, Great video and information. I live in Toronto, Canada. When is the best time to transfer Annabella hydrangeas from pot to ground? should I keep them in the pot until summer? Do they multiply in size?
Great hydrangea question . Early spring is a great time to make the move into the ground . Make sure you water them in well amd add some organic compost to the soil . Good luck with your hydrangea move 🌸🤗
We bought our home 1 year ago. I think I might have an Annabelle Hydrangea but I'm not sure. Is there a way I can tell before I prune on it. It is early March here in the NW.
Hi Vivian , i think you are best off not pruning this mystery hydrangea this year until you see who she is . If she turns out being a nikko or endless summer , you may risk cutting off all of this year's hydrangea blooms. If she's an Annabelle and you don't prune it , you will still get loads of blooms from her . Good luck .😊🌸
Several questions... I have oak leaf hydrangeas. Do they grow as fast as the Annabelle? What you have in July, is the look I’m going for but I feel like it’s taking FOREVER! How long have yours been planted to grow that big? Do you grow hydrangeas from seeds or cuttings?
Hi Becca , I don’t have oak leaf hydrangeas so sorry I can’t give advice on the first question. The annabelles you see in this video are about 8-ten years old . They do take a while to get established but are so worth it . I always try to plant my hydrangeas as already established plants sold in pots of 3-5 gallon sizes .
Hi: I just found your channel and love it . So informative! Need a link where to find incrediball hydrangeas . Seems like no one has any around me in Horseheads NY! The weather here is perfect for hydrangeas and I’m in love with mine but we have several spots for more. Thanks for your tips.

So happy you found our Flower Tribe 👋👏🌎 I find that Annabelles do best with morning sun and afternoon shade . My Annabelles that are planted in full sun burn up late in the season . The ones I have planted in afternoon shade turn that gorgeous green and dry out beautifully . Happy gardening 🌸👍

Hello from the UK. I have two in a pot that have very browning leaves. Hoping once I get them in the ground and all should be ok. Thanks for the advice

Thank you Little Missy, so kind of you to say so . 🌻😀

Your Annabelle's are beautiful! Thank you for the tips!
ProPlugger Thank you Proplugger 🌸👍
Will the Annabelles get sturdier with age? Mine come up beautifully every year but the first heavy rain of the spring/summer will take them out and they’ll flop over and never stand up again. 😞 I try and stake them up but I can’t seem to get it right. Could you do a video about how to stake flopped-over Annabelles? TY
Thanks, Kelly for your video, I have some very large Annabelles - was looking for tips to hold them up, they are pretty strong stems but are falling forward. I am in Kingston Ontario and they love the sunny morning location with afternoon shade.
Oh wow, amazing!
Thank you very much 🌸😊
We just put in two Annabelles and one Incrediball and I already love them so much. I can’t wait to see how they do!

Great to know how to get lime color, prune late winter not as free new growth
Hi Bonnie , the lime green color will develop whether you prune them or not . Annabelle hydrangeas are similar to limelight hydrangeas in that they start out with white blooms that turn to shades of green in late summer . Annabelles get super lime green 🌸🤗
Hi Kelly, Can I divide them? I have a huge one that has deep rooted that has twins growing. When is the good time to split and replant them?
I never ever prune my Annabelles and I always get big, bushy flowers! I am in Zone 5B in Ontario. I do cut some dried blooms in fall and use them in my fall & winter containers :)

Wishing you beautiful Annabelle hydrangea blooms 🌸 🌸 🌸 I agree they are beautiful !

I Live in St Louis, Missouri... Got my first Annabelle hydrangea plant last year:)
So happy to hear that . I’m sure you will love your Annabelle 🌸😊

Beautiful. Florence Alabama
Hi Debbie 👋👋 Thank you for checking in from Florence Alabama 🌎🤗🌸👋👍
Viewing from Ohio. Had to hard prune my Annabelles because noxious weed was choking some of them. They also had thin stems and a rain knocked them all over. So now that pruned to address the weed, I thought I would apply some cedar mulch after pulling the weeds. Should I do anything else to protect them?
Sounds like a good hydrangea plan to me . The only other thing you need to do is to keep up with the watering on the hot August says . I’ll bet you will have great blooms next year !
No matter what I do my Annabelles flop on the ground, usually after a rain. I'm digging mine out this spring. Michigan
Have you heard of the variety called Incrediball by Proven Winners? They are supposed to be similar to Annabelles but the stems are stronger so they are not supposed to flop . 🌸🌸
Thank you for checking in from Michigan🌍👏😊
Great info! Thanks.
You bet!🌸😊

What type of fertilizer do you use to get the heads so big?
I'm a newbie to hydrangeas and this was so helpful! Mine are looking so beautiful. Also love your Berner (I have one too ☺️)

Hi Kelly - great videos! I'm in Georgian Bay, Ontario where it's a colder zone than you. My Annabelles are amazing as well and I agree, they're easy to maintain and gorgeous all around the property
Me too!!!!
Once the daffodis bloom and the Forsythia bloom, I cut down the Annabelle to about 18"
Hello 👋 from Burlington Ontario!
Thanks from Middlesex Borough New Jersey
HI from Chicago, IL. So, if we do not prune, that means we don't touch them at all after they bloom? No cutting back or down--just leave them long throughout the winter?
I have some Mexican hydrangeas growing in my garden that are lovely
I'm glad to hear! Wishing you a beautiful and successful garden this summer 👍🌸
Thank you for checking in from Michigan 🌸🤗🌎👋👏
Hello again :-) so, with a twist of fate, I ended up not pruning my hydrangeas, because the weather did end up going up and down again! So currently, they are still not pruned. Now, this week we have weather that will be in the upper 40s, we had one or two days last week that was in the upper 40s. Would this be a good time to prune them?
Thank You ❤️
You're very welcome 🌸🤗
Nice video. Thank you for sharing. The Annabelle hydrogen are endless?
Hello! You said in the fall video to prune the hydrangeas back 18 - 24 inches in late winter before new growth. Then in the summer video you said to prune back in late fall to 18 - 24 inches. Can you tell me which is correct? I have Incrediballs and it will be their second winter.
Hi Robin , sorry for the confusion . Best time to prune them back is late winter . 😊🌸
@@KellyLehman Thank you!
Greetings from Fort Atkinson, WI
My Annabelle Hydrangea is in it's second year with lots of good sized flowers. However, most of the branches are laying down because of strong winds. The flowers are also very close to the leaves. Appreciate some help on handle this problem.
What wrong with my Annabel getting the small leaves and small flowers. Please answer.. thanks Kelly. I, from PA
Hi Kelly why my vanilla strawberry turn brown instead of brown and looks so dry.from virginia beach here..thanks
Are these partial sun/shade? These similar to smooth hydrangea?
Great hydrangea questions . Yes Annabelle hydrangeas are also considered to be smooth hydrangeas . I have mine in morning sun and afternoon shade but they can take more sun than that . Annabel hydrangeas can also be grown in partial shade but the blooms may be a little smaller then the hydrangeas grown in 8 hours or more of sun each day
OH how I wish my hydrangeas were THAT big!
Val and Vino We had a ton of rain this year . That seems to help a lot
Here is the link for the flower spray paint

Hi Kim how are you fellow garden state flower friend 😊🌸? I’ve never grown the Incrediball variety but hear they are great . Sorry I can’t give advice on how long it takes to mature . Most hydrangeas take a few years to get established with lots of blooms. They are usually worth the wait . 😊🌸

in countries that do not have falls and winters, do we need to prune them? they do not really shed leaves. i'm from the Philippines, love your videos.
Most of mine are in full sun and they are just beautiful ... did you plant anything else with them?

What if you prune in late fall? Zone 5b Wisconsin. I didn't know, and just pruned them this week to about 10", oops
Is there a way of keeping the blooms white? Or at least delay their turning green? Rizwi

Hey Kelly, Great video and information. I live in Toronto, Canada. When is the best time to transfer Annabella hydrangeas from pot to ground? should I keep them in the pot until summer? Do they multiply in size?
Great hydrangea question . Early spring is a great time to make the move into the ground . Make sure you water them in well amd add some organic compost to the soil . Good luck with your hydrangea move 🌸🤗
Thank you for checking in from Toronto Canada 🌸🤗💃🌻🌎
We bought our home 1 year ago. I think I might have an Annabelle Hydrangea but I'm not sure. Is there a way I can tell before I prune on it. It is early March here in the NW.
Hi Vivian , i think you are best off not pruning this mystery hydrangea this year until you see who she is . If she turns out being a nikko or endless summer , you may risk cutting off all of this year's hydrangea blooms. If she's an Annabelle and you don't prune it , you will still get loads of blooms from her . Good luck .😊🌸
Thank you for checking in from the NW🌸😊👋🌍
Good luck with you hydrangeas . Happy growing ❤️🌸
