Soon enough this guy’s gonna have a segment called “Pimp My Stick” where he transforms bland arcade sticks into modded goddesses. Seriously though, I love your content! Couldn’t like it enough.
It's nice to see such a well done mod video. I did mine and gave it a dual mod for SNES, Genesis, PC Engine and NES. It's my go to arcade stick for retro gaming!
Great channel. Anyone who appreciates scalines has to be good! I've never attempted a mod like this, I don't even have the tools yet, but I think I'm going to try it because of your video. My Dreamcast stick is worn out and I've been looking to get a new one, just for casual emulation on PC. I was considering selling mine and buying something cheap but I think this mod would be both much cooler and will teach me a lot of skills I've always wished I'd had. Finally a legit excuse to buy a Dremel and learn soldering! Doesn't matter if ends up more expensive, I'd be paying for the education, not just the stick.
There is simply no other UA-cam channel about joysticks that remotely compares to this. Nice to see you share the same passion as a lot of us retro/fighting sticks whilst producing such high quality content. Keep up the good work.
Great video but a word of advice. You can get an exact 30mm stepper drill bit that will give you an exact 30mm hole so you don’t have to be imprecise with the Dremel. I used these stepper drill bits to resize the button holes on my Evel Knievel pinball machine when I updated all the hardware since the old Bally buttons where no longer made. Hope that helps.
@@Bodega_dASH_Goteem haha yeah you need one fit for grinding metal...I did the same thing first time. I’ve done 3 of these Dreamcast sticks, all with Sanwa parts. I like the start button mod, never seen that before. Never had a problem with the stock one though.
Hi, thanks for the guide. I am new to modding my controllers so I need some extra information to mod my 2 dreamcast sticks: 1) Do I need 0.110" or 0.187" quick connects? 2) I am considering LS-32 but I don't like a square gates and the Kowal octo gate got not completely positive reviews. Any suggestions? 3) Could I put quick disconnects on the end of the cable and put them on the pins of the joystick or of the pcb or should I use wire connectors? Thanks in advance for your anwser!

Thank you for this tutorial. I might do a mod just like this. I used to have a modded green goblin and it was great. Played high level marvel vs Capcom 2 on it (though power Stone and soul calibur and cvs2 are also favorites of mine). I regret selling that green goblin Is there any minimum requirements/attachments I need to look for when acquiring a Dremel for this mod? I see a .7 amp Dremel that is a great price and I'm hoping it's sufficient for this mod
I love this. Amazing work! I just picked up this stick and I'm looking to mod it. Can you provide a model number for those buttons, please? Thanks and keep up the great work!
Instead of using a Dremel, I recommend a 30mm stepper drill bit. It will be way cleaner and faster to expand those hole. Other than that I learned a lot from this excellent guide. Thank you!
Awesome stuff. I have a still working good green goblin, but when the system starts to fail I have this excellent tutorial to turn to. What about your dual mod? Will you make a video about it?
just a quick note. I tried installing the original LS-32 not the LS-32-01 and I notice it's slightly bigger by a few millimeters so I'm not able to screw the bottom plate all the way otherwise the bottom of the Joystick drags against the metal plate. Any Ideas?
Joska Cintron i installed the LS-32-01-SC-K, and had the same issue. I had to dremel down the walls the original stick sat inside of. With this it still dragged on the bottom of the plate. I put clay in those 2 cylinder shaped pillars for weight, but i had to add a slight few millimeters more of clay so it could push against the bottom plate. Sucks cause the clay going farther out then the cylinder pillars means my bottom plate is bending slightly, but thats the only way i got the stick to not drag. After closed it up and it was fine. Shockingly it sealed perfectly, and doesn’t wobble when i leave it on my desk. Its janky, and Im sure the plate is permanently warped; but its better then not having your stick go back to neutral position.
Invest in a stepper bit. Trim the metal mounting plate of the new ticks so it fits in the recessed area, better stability and wont weaken the plastic or stretch the screw holes as much over time. I would also just make a new JST cable instead of all those splices.
I was planning on putting a brook ufb into the Namco PS1 stick, any tips for doing this, I'll probably keep the original parts/part swap the stick so I shouldn't need to mess with the actual case much right?
You should be ok. That said it's a tight fit so I would NOT use a 20 pin wire harness and instead use the stock screw terminals. Also dont forget that the namco buttons are soldered to the pcb so you will need to solder new wires to them. And to be clear you plan on keeping the stock stick right?
@@ScanlineCity yeah keeping stock stick but might see about putting new spring etc. In it, i saw something about people taking the stick apart and combining it with parts from a jlf but I'm not sure how that would work
How about an episode on the old school Horis, such as the Super Famicom HSJ-12 and The Hori PC Engine Fighting Stick. They came with stock LS-33s and are super mod-friendly, as everything is a drop in replacement!
Fantastic video! Production quality and lighting are top-notch, and I love your studio/workshop! I'm a bit confused about how to attach quick disconnects to the pushbutton wires. I bought these terminals and sleeves from focusattack and this crimping tool from Amazon: -Philmore .110" Non-Insulated Quick Disconnect Terminal (Box of 100) -Nylon .110" Quick Connector Insulation Sleeve (Approx 100pcs) -Titan Tools 11477 Ratcheting Wire Terminal Crimper Tool for Insulated Terminals - Fixed Jaw Terminal Crimper The terminals are already closed, so it seems like the crimper doesn't do anything to them. @@ScanlineCity what are the specifications for the start button? I took mine apart to clean and the membrane bounced away..so I figured upgrading all the buttons wouldnt be a bad idea. Do you have links you can throw in the description?

What's that Dremel bit that you used to widen the holes and grind the JLF body? I've been using tungsten carbide tile grout cutting bits for random projects like this. They works well for cutting aluminum and cast iron (I use it for porting small cylinder engines), but they're also pretty skinny and better for detail work so I've been looking for something wider. Also, great video as always dude! I can definitely tell you put a lot of time and effort into making these. It's motivating, like I want to make some videos of my stick mods too, though I lack the editing chops to produce something as good as this lol.
Well heck, maybe we can collaborate on something! As for the dremel bit I use a large assortment but honestly, anything would work since its plastic. There are couple sets on amazon for fairly cheap i use. Ill try and figure out which bit that was
I think I'll get one but instead of just replacing the parts, I'm tempted to get a Brook Universal, add some new 12mm momentary buttons on the back and make it a completely versatile fight stick for all modern systems, including the old with adapters :D I know it's only 6 buttons, but I can't think of any fighting games that actually use all 8 buttons other than people who like to use them for combination macros which I don't lol
Wow man! You did an amazing job with this stick! No matter how many videos of modded Dreamcast sticks I see, I am always amazed by what people could do with it! Personally I prefer multicolored parts that represent the buttons! Now if only it was possible to mod a Sega Genesis arcade stick! I would love to get one of my own and get it modded with Sanwa parts. But I am not in any way good at doing stuff like this, nor do I trust myself with stuff like that. Do you do commissions or know anyone who does?
I was going to Mod this stick but nah it's too much work and I don't have the proper equipment for it. The stick looks simple but beautiful. I think you can just cut off the ridges on the sides of your Sanwa Buttons and stick on there. I didn't try it, but that is what I did to fit the buttons into my MVC2 Arcade1Up.
A new Scanline City is a good way to start an early morning. But DAMN, that was a whopper of a mod. Think I'll stick with those Konami Hypersticks! I've got a bunch - two near stock for regular PS1, two heavily modded for Game Boy Player on GC, and two others that are in the works for arcade supergun units.

@@ScanlineCity what are the specifications for the start button? I took mine apart to clean and the membrane bounced away..so I figured upgrading all the buttons wouldnt be a bad idea. Do you have links you can throw in the description?
Awsome tutorial! Just wish you had put links in the description for all the part you used.
I am interested to know more about the ls55 what can you way about it? And what it compares to a ls56 or a JLF
Ls55 is certainly one of my favorites. Same height as jlf but a lot more stiff - in a good way imo
im really interesting in the dual modded version, i tried to look it up but theres not enough info :(
Yup I'm gonna try and go over this in a future episode
@@ScanlineCity please do!
Hey scanline! I’m trying this mod but I’m bad with screw sizes. Can you link me to some that will work with an LS-56
Try a set of #4 5/8 inch screws. You can get them at your local home depot and they should be open right now :)

Scanline City hey thanks! Missed it in the video but heard it the second time. Awesome guide.
@@thomasscialpi2146 let me know how it turns out!
How did you learn to do all this?
Trial and error haha
I wish you could do this to my Agetec
Hey Buddy, great job with the controls, looks amazing. Just checking if you would be willing to make two of these that I could buy from you?
Michael
Ill try and figure out which bit that was
wooo amazing ....
Is 1k = LK or HK?

AKA the Green Goblin
I'll have to add that to the title!
I want to upgrade the buttons on my agetec dreamcast arcade stick so bad but i know ill screw it up
Nice videos man.Pls vid of fighting edge and hrap2 hrap3 ex next!
HRAP 1-3 coming very soon!
Thanks! I may know some people where do you live
Where are you located? Can you work on my DC stick?
A new Scanline City is a good way to start an early morning. But DAMN, that was a whopper of a mod. Think I'll stick with those Konami Hypersticks! I've got a bunch - two near stock for regular PS1, two heavily modded for Game Boy Player on GC, and two others that are in the works for arcade supergun units.
Dude...its was a freaking beast to edit to make sure everything was clear haha
Do more mod videos!
What game is at 5:45ish? Looks cool
Cannon Spike! Love love love that game. It was a naomi arcade game called Gunspike that got renamed when it was released for dreamcast
@@ScanlineCity looks awesome. Thanks for the videos and inspiration.
0:01 Thats the Eu stick, and 18:39 is the NA stick. "just random facts" :D
New sub to your channel you make mods for commission? I'm from Seattle area, i have an arcade stick but i have 0 experience on any mod that takes tools 😔and I would not like to ruin it especially for the high price that is in 2022
Your content is awesome. How may we refer to you? I could be wrong, but we didn't catch your name.
I would just use Scanline City for all referrals. Thank you so much!
My joystick getting caught brought me here. I found the solution but I'll try this later.
Try installing a sanwa JLF lever and hayabusa buttons.
Use a DRILL with a 30mm bit. Not a Dremel! A drill will leave a factory look and takes only seconds.
I'll pay you to mod my dreamcast arcade stick
I guess I need to invest in some new tools/equipment.
