  • This episode we are visiting Chris Shannon aka CHRISWEEET again. We look as some of his cobras, and I get spat in the eye by a Monocled Cobra (Naja kaouthia). Getting spat in the eye by spitting cobras can cause blindness, but not if you wash it out properly right away. Click the link below to check out Chris's awesome channel please!

    This is the type of handling venomous keepers are talking about when they say it’s ruining the hobby. Having a cobra wrapped around your hand inches away from your face is just straight up dumb. Y’all both almost got bit. I’m all for handling venomous, but there’s still a level of caution and respect you need to have towards the animal. Your just fucking around with it like it’s a python or something smh.

      Exactly. Not to mention exposing yourself to venom like that can lead to developing anaphylactic reactions to it. Is a loaded gun inherently more dangerous then a motor vehicle when you consider both could cause accidental death when used incorrectly? No. But touching a parked car in your garage is not going to kill you. Touching a loaded gun and it going off in your hand will. SO YOU TREAT THOSE THINGS DIFFERENTLY

      boastfuls watch someone like Dingo Dinkelman, Chandlers Wildlife, Tom Crutchfeild, or Tyler Nolan and you will see a huge difference in the handling procedures. Even when Tyler got bit by the King Cobra (amazing video to watch) he may have made an almost fatal mistake but it was nothing like these two. I’m not sure about Chandler but all of the previous know how to treat these animals with respect because of bites, or friends who have been bitten, and aren’t just making a UA-cam video for the comments and views. I mean they all want that stuff but the animals always are first.
      Tom Moran, one of the Tarantula guys I watch, always says that when he is rehousing a spider, if something goes south his wife is to put down the camera and help.
      Also these men have more experience than the two clowns in this video. They also are big into the conservation and rescue of many species that are endangered. They breed mainly for the species to live on than for the income, which is always a nice bonus.
      These two in this video have the snakes out to “play” with. To them they are a toy. A pure source of “my balls are bigger than yours”. There are people like that in every aspect of reptile, arachnid, and amphibian keeping. I was trying to show my main tarantula breeder the size one of her offspring has made while in my care. While scrolling I seen someone holding one of the most venomous tarantulas there is. The bite wont kill you like a snake will, unless allergic, but previous bite reports from accidental bites have said that they cause intense pain for weeks to a month that no pain killer can touch, along with effects/affects (Fuck English) that last for years such as muscle aches and joint pain.
      These are two types of keepers you will read about in the paper unfortunately, unless they straighten up their act and start treating these magnificent animals with the respect they deserve.
      Also Coyote Peterson is amazing for information on a lot of stuff, not just herpticulture, and if you have kids he is very good at keeping their attention as well.

    Not enough respect is given to the snake being dangerous. David is a walking time bomb waiting to get bitten. This is exactly why people are against free handling. Free handling like this is what gives people who have venomous snakes and do it correctly, a bad name. Even when using proper techniques of handling the snakes, there is always a chance of a invenomation simply because snakes have a mind of their own and accidents can happen. Handling them so carelessly like this guy is doing makes it a question of When, not IF he will get bitten.

      Plus respect the snake and Immediately go to the ER, along with rinsing your eye on the way. That would go for ANY venomous snake! Your not only putting yourselves in danger but all those with you.
      If you want to become a professional in Snakes, then stop free handling! Your childish behavior thinking you are Invincible! Is a lack of respect for these snakes. Plus when you die from a snake bite you will hurt the hobby itself!
      Instead of educating people on these snakes. Your putting yourself into the very thing that the other side are saying to keep them our of the Country. Act like a adult, and educate by using safe procedures. NOT free handling!
      Oh most definitely go to the ER anytime if you get something in your eyes. I suggest that you see a EYE Doctor IMMEDIATELY. Your eyes are very delicate and it doesn't take much to damage! Actually, ANYthing that goes in to your eye should be rinsed for at LEAST 15 min. You also should have medical help on way to you or someone else is taking you to the hospital. Don't be stupid and tell these people, some underage, I'm sure, that if they get spitting in the eye to rinse it out! Your NOT a doctor and you aren't legally allowed to give medical advice. This video could be the 1st thing when someone has had something spit in there eyes. They could lose there eye sight, or the eye itself.

    • @gedgar2000
      @gedgar2000 4 роки тому +4

      @@anitraduke3616 You can should be way more aggressive on your rinse procedure. I got a contaminated contact lens, and had a horrible reaction that persisted after removal of the lens. It kept getting worse. I called a good friend who is an ER Physician. When he heard my voice he got serious. "I want you to go in the bathroom, turn on the faucet and look right into the stream. Rinse each eye for 15 minutes and call me back." I still visited the ER, and it was scary. A superficial rinse might have been big trouble.

    • @anitraduke3616
      @anitraduke3616 4 роки тому +3

      @@gedgar2000 Um, that is what I said. To rinse your eyes for a MINIMUM of 15 minutes. And do it as you, are on your way to the ER. That's the main thing is to get you to a ER and then they can go from there. With most Emergency situations it is necessary to get to the hospital. They will then be able to see the actual injury, how severe the damage is, and then they can go from there with treatment.
      If you ever watch Viperkeeper's videos, he got hit with a spitting Cobra a few years ago and does a wonderful video on how to treat it. Described the pain he felt and what the Hospital did for him. I will see if I can find it for you.
      Oh, we know that the spitting Cobra's have stronger venom to damage the eyes. But ANY SNAKE VENOM is dangerous to the eyes. They can blind you!
      I have gotten scratches on my cornea when putting in contacts or something. It is very painful.

    It seems every family of snakes (particularly cobras) contain a number of individuals, that even the most skilled keepers have difficulty free handling. I noticed this instantly when I saw Chris using a snake hook and great caution to handle his own cobras featured in the video. Some snakes are fine with being free handled while others demand to have their space respected. We know you have a unique way in handling these venomous snakes, but please be wary of the particularly cranking individuals that demand space. In fact, just use a hook for the cranky ones as you don't need to prove yourself. We know you're very talented.

I’m not sure how old you are but you look very young to me, & I’m just wondering how you became so experienced with all snakes. You never panic, even when handling very venomous snakes, & your reflexes are so amazingly quick as the snakes come within millimeters of your body!! Your handling of them is so gentle & even when you need to move super quick it comes across like slow motion. 😇. I love watching your amazing talent in someone so young, when around these super deadly species 😮 & even in a crisis you remain perfectly calm. Glad to see people coming around over a year ago I said david is gonna get bit one day and he free hands too much.. Everybody attacked me saying he knows what he is doing and I'm stupid and blah blah. Bow I see the comment section full of intelligent people who see how this kid totally disrespects the great cobra.. If he respected them he wouldnt free hand them as often as he does.. He has admitted to being bit before imo he got lucky next time he may not be so lucky..

    It is incredible to see the venom, spit by this cobra, went directly into the eye of David. That was not coincidence. The cobra is that precise. It's as if the cobra gave David a false sense of superiority, and then instantaneously, injected a stream of venom into his eyeball. That cobra is badass!

    David, my dear, please be careful. I enjoy watching your vids but sometimes I just wanna snatch you up by your ear and chastise you like a child. Snakes, or any wild animals, can be unpredictable. No matter how knowledgeable one is with a species behavior or how well one knows a particular snake, there is always a possibility of being bit, spit at, etc. There is no way to predict an animal's behaviour with 100% accuracy. Obviously David is aware of this. I don't understand all the chances/risks he takes. It's 1 thing to freehandle, but then he takes that to another riskier level at times. For example, petting the head, under the mouth, etc. I genuinely don't want David to be hurt, lose a digit or even his life. I would like to see him tone it down a bit. More than likely he won't. David If you read this I wanna let ya know your subscribers/viewers care about your well-being. Your passion for snakes is evident. Please be a bit more mindful.

      I hear your concerns for sure but to me it seems like he's well aware of the dangers but just chooses to live his life a little on the edge. Some people jump out of perfectly good airplanes, some eat McDonald's and drink soda every day all well knowing it may kill them. You have to live your life by your own code and accept the gifts and the potential consequences. Replied with respect intended.

    • @thecincinnatichick

      Philipp Lipka, it's not that cut and dry. It's not like if you're bit by a venomous snake and you're given antivenin and suddenly everything's fine. Even with receiving antivenin you can still be in the hospital for weeks. Depending upon the snake and how quickly it was treated there can be a variety of issues. Venom can cause necrosis, that is when tissue dies and therefore a finger or even a larger body part could have to be amputated, depending upon the location of the bite. Many cobras and most vipers venom causes necrosis. Also, one can suffer permanent nerve damage. There's all kinds of problems that can occur even with quick medical intervention. Also, David's in Southeast Asia. I'm not gonna pretend to be an expert on Thai hospitals or their health care system, but I sure wouldn't wanna go through something as serious as a venomous snake bite in a southeast Asian hospital. He's taking such an unnecessary risk that it's hard for me to understand. A venomous snake bite can fuck you up for life. In my opinion it's not worth it.
