    I was reading where God did tell Hezekiah he was gonna die....and Hezekiah did die..but Hezekiah prayed to the Lord and the Lord spared him 15 more years....now that is evidence that prayer changes things!!!! Alpha and Omega God Is!

    MY LORD! The video (from hymnchoir) are bringing memories of my grandmother to life. It's SO unfortunate that generations now and in the future won't get to experience this type of service. Thank you for all of your videos.

    It's just amazing how people can make music as beautiful and complex as this without instrumentation. I can only imagine how powerful this music must be in person. I could barely make out the words, but the voices were unbelievably hypnotic. Can hardly imagine preaching behind this music. This is some of the most stirring music I've ever heard.

    In 2011 if not 2012 I ran across this song. I listen to it and it took a hold over me. Next day I told my sister about this. Its now 2014 and it still got a hold over me and my sister. We never hear of hummsong. Now we listen to alot of the different songs and we have are favorites songs. I do remember in church when there were no music and people sing with the sprit.Just hands and feets. I was a lityle kid but I remember. Thank you all for this kind of music. It is so much a blessing. See you around the throne of God one day.

      DIANE FWH Does it still have you like it got me in 1963....The gospel group, the Soul Stirrers, used a lot of this metered sound... Check out Stand by Me Father... written by Sam Cooke..you'll hear that same haunting sway...

    It is so great to happen upon these Hymn Choirs... Being a traditional Baptist, I often debate with my friend from "Word" Churches over what kind of music brings one into God's presence...My argument is that it is the sincerity of one's heart as one worships and not a music style (Contemporary Praise & Worship) that brings one in to the presence of the Lord....God inhabits the praises of his people. This video proves just that. A hymn from the heart will take me "in" any day.

    My God, My God, My God! I felt the power of prasing and worhsipping. TRUE BBELIEVERS that Jesus is coming back like a theif in the night. This is truly rich and steep in tradition and history of our people with teh style of call and response. I am so glad that I found it during Black History. I will share it with family, freinds and my students. Where I can I get a whole copy of this? Will glady pay for a service of singing hymns.

    To just stumble across this today has been a great blessing and I can't wait to share them with friends and some of the younger members of our contemporary church.

    Does this style of singing have a name? How would one describe it to another person?

    • @karenbartlett1307
      @karenbartlett1307 9 років тому +5

      "Call and response". It's an old slave style. One person calls out the line, the rest respond. It's how the slaves used to sing while working on the plantations. It helped them to keep up the brutal rhythm of plantation labor. It may have come over with some of the Tribes from Africa. (Took two classes, one Music of the Whole Earth, one World Music, but can't remember everything.)
