everything you've said is spot on . the pay wall and stupid cosmetics which i couldn't give a toss about. square really knew when they messed up when they released guardians of the galaxy which got such a great response from gamers and fans alike
I agree with most you say here. But once again gamers failed guardians of the Galaxy by not buying the game. It's things like that why these devs keep making poor choices by forcing live services and pay walls recoup somehow. People need to support good games like GotG. But unfortunately the people didn't buy game.

I got this game in my birthday. It was tottaly incredible. Even though its dead, I still play it. Its tremendously fun. The challenging and fun missions are too good, with all the lore...... I'll never forget this wonderful game!!!!
I put well over 120 hours into Avengers within the first couple of months. This game had a LOT of potential & I will always stand by that. Unfortunately, greed & incompetence stood in the way.
I'm gonna get it for the first time and really enjoy it. I didn't feel like I could enjoy it the first time because the characters just didn't feel powerful enough. Now everything is unlocked. Plus I do enjoy a good power up grind
For me I have fun with the game still but mainly because I went through the unspeakable horror of a grindfest to make strong/OP builds with my favorite characters.
I usually come back for the story content, the main campaign was generic but still honestly enjoyable, Wakanda Dlc was enjoyable to me too, and the Hawkeye ones were just alright and I liked the Kate one more than the Hawkeye one
I got the game before it shut down and im suprised how much hate it gets. I know its not going to win any awards, but if you want something fun to pass the time away then you couldn't go wrong with the price they ended up selling for.
This game is worth getting for the story alone. You got the main story, Kate Bishop, Hawkeye and black panther story dlc. I'm personally tired of replying every single non story mission. But other than that it's a good time to chill. Like you're unlikely gonna be stressed ever, unless you're at 1% hp then rip 💀
Yea that was my issue too. It just made it seem like “ok what do I do next??” I just wish it was a straight to the point, OG avengers story. Not all the side quests. Game had a lot of potential. Oh and flying sucks in the game.
I just got the definitive edition on Gamepass, DLing it now and that’s why I came to this video. If the biggest issue is it’s expensive, then I guess I’ll give it a try. Looking for a colourful mindless beat ‘em up with some comfy storylines lol Thanks for your contEnt
Its interesting that once everything becomes free and unlockable people hate it less even if the game is still not great -- Devs take note, this is what we've been saying all along.
I enjoyed it at launch, beat the game and some post game stuff. I have to say I prefer it now replaying because they made the heroes feel more powerful. I do wish they'd have had time to make the paid skins droppable, earnable, or craftable
I think the game is actually pretty good. It could've been a hell of a lot better, but I give it a 7/10. It's much better now that everything has been released for free. I noticed that the gameplay felt fresher with all the takedowns being available. War For Wakanda was the best part of the game imo.
@@dmaxwell910901 you do yeah but with everything unlocked your approach to each battle is different. He's made a good point there "feels fresher now that all the takedowns are available" that will make victories feel more rewarding, and it was you and your control input at the right time that made it happen. That's where the reward of it comes from in combat
@@dazzaboy04 Problem is, I never found that there was any room for creativity in combat, since the enemies are so mindless and you always have hordes of basic grunt bots charging at you for melee attacks. Lack of enemy variety is fine in some games, such as in stealth or open world games where you can experiment. This game desperately needed for at least half of the game to be taken up by another faction, such as more fleshed out watch-dogs or Taskmaster's faction (basically some kind of faction of non-robot enemies where most grunts fight from range) Also, the fact that when you rarely come across a human soldier, it takes like three hits from Hulk's fists or f*kin Mjolnir to kill them.. just completely ruins the feel of playing as those characters.
In my opinion, the game is actually pretty good. It could've been better, but I'll give it a 7/10. It's much better now that everything has been released for free. Comparing the game to when I last played it, the gameplay felt fresher with all the takedowns now being free. The best campaign would be War For Wakanda.
I just got back to it today after I stopped mid BP story when that came out and after a hour of playing I realised how damn good this game is..... I mean no games are perfect neither this one, but didn't deserve the heat what it got. I think people will look back to this game in years with regret why they didn't supported it.

It absolutely did deserve the heat. The fact that, in a universe with such a varied amount of villainous factions, we spend 95% of the game fighting the same old mindless, boring robots is just pathetic. Also there's how underpowered the avengers are, it really shouldn't take more than one punch from the Hulk to take out some grunt.
I recently rebooted the game today after I stopped mid Black Panther storyline. After an hour of playing, I realized this game was amazing. Not all games are perfect, but this game didn't deserve the hate it received. I believe people will look back at this game in years-to-come with regret because they never supported it.
@@DJVideso I really don't think they will. It's great that you enjoyed it, and it's a shame you've missed out. But mindlessly punching and shooting the same braindead robots as underpowered heroes for 95% of the game just isn't fun to most people. If it had just ditched the looter mechanics (just doesn't suit the Avengers at all) and had WAY more variety in it's enemies and missions at launch, it likely would have had way more support. Plus, if they hadn't gone the "live service" and always online route, it wouldn't have mattered when they stop supporting it. They made that decision.
Got it because it’s on gamepass. Always wanted to try it just to see what it is like. While it’s great all the costumes are now free and it’s fun playing as your favorite hero (for me Cap), the gameplay is just so boring. Every single hero plays the same. Spam x, hit or hold why, same exact range attacks and blocking mechanics. The only difference is you’ll be throwing a shield or a rock or repulsers or shooting arrows or bullets… not really much fun. After a few hours I felt like I had seen everything there was to see outside of the story and deleted the game. Wasn’t worth taking up over 100 gigs of storage.
You can do a hero game, but people gotta understand all of them have strengths and weaknesses. Can’t make all of them flow the same way. I knew when you could make Widow a tank character on here it was gonna die 😅
Absolutely. I really think a *successful* Avengers game would need actual enemy variety, including types that certain heroes just have no business fighting, or at least not solo'ing, and each hero having a role and list of tasks (that's the other thing: variety in mission objectives). Widow should be entirely about stealth, sabotage and assassination. Disabling enemy defenses and doing high spikes of damage in a hit and run type of play style, because going head-on should absolutely just get her killed in the majority of encounters. But then Hulk should be all about taking on the biggest enemies in the room and drawing all the aggro (thus making Widow's job easier). I would even say he should just one shot any "grunt" category enemy types, regardless of build or levels, but be incentivized to not waste his time on them, those enemies are for other heroes to take on. The team doesn't need Hulk (and same would apply for Thor) to be targeting the low power mobs, they need him holding down and tanking the 20 foot tall mech or monster that would one shot the team's Captain America.
The problem with that is that you have to do gameplay and balance for all those individual strengths and weaknesses of each superhero. That's economically tough to do. If you are going to do all that, you'd be better off just making multiple single super hero games instead. Well that's not entirely true. The real problem is not trying to make individual superheroes, but also trying to make it a live service game where players are expected to buy extra content. It's the making all that extra content for each character that gets prohibitively expensive if each character is unique.
@@KenMathis1 not really, you give them their capabilities. Avengers don’t have to be together 24/7. Could have specific missions where they split and have their own objectives on a map, and or fighting their own rivals 1on1. That only would of give-the game hella depth. Doesn’t always have to be 4 heroes. Need way more villains. And missions come as alerts. Like Red hood is attacking Egypt for some artifact, you can grab cap and a friend can bring hulk, but when you bring hulk he is countered with some crazy thing he has to deal with if he doesn’t have a strong rival there. Make the. Characters have value. Hulk or Thor there and it should be triple the amount of enemies. Strategic, stealth, all should come into play.

You are still making extra work for just one game, when instead you could could pick 1 or 2 characters and make a full game just with them, but for less effort. In addition, if your characters are going to be split up and do their own thing, that defeats the point of having them in the game together. You'd just be making a bunch on individual games, bundling them in the one game, and having the player only play a portion of them. Finally, it wouldn't feel good to play if the game automatically countered whatever character you chose to take on a mission. It would take away the feeling that the player actually made a meaningful choice.

Your review actually scares me! Because I'm learning to be a game developer myself & in my opinion, based on the things I've learned, THIS GAME SHOULD HAVE WORKED. You mentioned that all heroes play similarly, well yeah that shouldn't count as a fault because they all are made in the same game engine & it's pretty well done if you ask me. I'm not supporting their business practices by any means. I hate micro transactions just as much as the next person. All I'm just saying, if you ever wanted to play your favorite marvel heroes all together in one Triple A action game, it couldn't get any better than this. Not at least within the next ten years of technology enhancements. I have the ps5 physical copy & still play it & appreciate it for what it is.

It seems the game will still be playable after shutting down and you don't need to be online to play. I have the ps4 version, which is not that great but hey I'm on a budget.
@@JacksGameReviews "live service"? All online features will still work, etc. All that's happening is being taken off the store as the licence is expiring and there will be no more updates. But all features will still work. Shutting down really is not the right term. It's just being delisted from the store
Is this game still worth playing because i sold my Marvel Avengers ps4 version and i been thinking about getting the ps5 version but i'm kinda hesitation about getting it again because how awful this game was
Just the fact that someone from the dev team decided to locking finishers behind a paywall is enough for me to not even spend the 3€ on steam.. Trash company doesn't even deserve a penny.
If they had of started like midnight suns and came up with a better story and we’re actually consistent like it should been vs months of nothing it would of been dope. I feel like they got lazy with actual game content and character development. I literally played every character and maxed them out but it just got stale.
Funny enough after 3 years of playing this game I never bought skins but you can grind for resources from the character cards(basically their version of the battle pass but for each character, and they're free), and doing them gets you enough to buy at least 1 mcu skin. The only people complain about having to buy skins are the ones that don't realize EVERY EXPANSION and DLC characters are free. You know how they can afford doing that? From skins. The problem was that was a bad idea, should've made the expansions, skins and dlc paid, then made the game free. If they'd done that it would've been the xenovese of marvel games; a game that kept getting dlc but people prefer it ends rather it rarely gets dlc and people still wanting it to end because it's dry asf
It's not "shutting down" in the sense that online servers are not being taken off, and everything will still work. It's just being taken off the store because the licence has finished
When you say "the game is shutting down and won't be available," does that mean we're going to lose access to it even if we already bought it, and just won't be able to play the game we paid for anymore, or is it just that they're not doing anymore updates, and the game is "dead" at this point, but we can still play it?
The base game is not that bad but the Hawkeye and especially War for Wakanda expansion is awesome and much better than the main game. It got a lot of hate (rightfully so) but it did do things right too. The storytelling and graphics for one are awesome.
I got a box for 14 dollars from walmart, it came with patches with all the main characters logos on it, and i have to say i genuinely enjoy the game, i understand peoples problems with it, which are all valid, but i play games to have fun, and ive done that, so im happy with my purchase
I tried it on Game Pass since it's shutting down. I played for like 3 hours then I stopped coz I was bored. My main gripe is that the missions are tedious and generic. The animation and VFX are great tbf, but I can't keep myself invested to the game if the missions are generic af.
I looked for 2023 review after I have just tried the game -got it in a discounted bundle along guardians of the galaxy, which is awesome- and I 100% agree with what you said. This game is a 6.5/10, no more, no less. Had fun with it and I am going back to it yet again I did NOT pay full price for it which is pretty fair. Thank you for a fair review.
I'm so glad that the game no longer has live support. Now I'll finally be able to play it. I spent more time watching loading screens than actually playing the game. Through all these years, every time I tried to play it I kept waiting in loading screens for updates, autosaves or live service feeds. It kept asking me for system downloads and crap that left me bored! I ended up uninstalling it. Now I can simply put the game on and enjoy it!
I enjoyed it in is original state but only enough to finish the campaign. Since the delisting and final update is actually become one of my go-to games. It's surprising how much more enjoyable the game can be with 90% of the suits available. Having all the finishers adds variety and makes the game feel less repetitive... But most importantly leveling up doesn't feel like a massive chore anymore. I play everyday now and even though I usually just do the daily missions for each faction and maybe a villain sector or two. There is something about it that keeps bringing me back though. I do enjoy switching my character up a lot and think that most of the characters play really well. Hulk is probably the only character I'd say I don't enjoy but I'm probably just expecting too much as a huge Ultimate Destruction fan. It would have been nice to have gotten She-Hulk before they delisted the game, I was actually really looking forward to her coming into the game.
I was close to beating the campaign in 2020 and just beat it, but I can't bring myself to continue. The mission design is so dull and repetetive that it's not worth my time to see the rest of the story stuff because it's a grind fest. I loved the Guardians game so it sucks that Avengers had to be a live service game and absolutely not Crystal's thing.
If it was for all the bugs n lack of content and empty promises it would’ve been one of best games out! And you’re wrong it’s not mainly kids….consider how many Avengers games ever been made
Cool Review was struggeling if i should get this now for like 6 bucks, and i guess this helped me find out. Also i think a "good" Avengers game, could be possible, but the dev would have to do this in episodes or with every Avenger beeing a separate paid dlc, like releasing the first one with only the story bits of Character X, Iron Man for example, so you have all the story scenes in which you play as iron man, even if some of them would be later in the game. Then with the second one you get the next Character - i mean this sounds weird and best descriped like they tried to do with Final Fantasy 15, where they tried to bring out these story dlc where you find out what happend to the individual Characters. Because i think, if they focus on doing a complete game with so many Avegners, they start doing it like they did in this game - everyone can be played for almost every mission. Having them develop each of them individual this might be a much better experience, but the most devs/publishers dont have the money/time/patience for that. And i dont think most of the buyers would have the patience for something like this. Sorry btw for so much text but i really find that idea interesting, that their would be ways to have better games with a movie/series license, they just would require a bit more work.
You know what would be nice to see if now that everything is free in the game people returned to it and play it and play it, it would be nice to see and watch what they would do.

After all this smoke has cleared, I actually like the game, I wish this was Ultimate Alliance and not Avengers with a more unique storyline and characters. Don’t get me wrong completely understand its downfall and where improvements could have been made and why I didn’t play it at first, but now, as someone who grew up on beat em ups like Ultimate Alliance I kinda love this game
Honestly hated the marketing for the video game they clearly used Mark Ruffalo to promote the game using his MCU hulk faces in the commercials but the hulk looked nothing like that in the actual game that’s just cheap and trash to me they had 5 fucking years to make a masterpiece and it looks like they took the last 1 year and half to make this game and this was the results smfh
I get ultimate alliance vibes without the nuance and love fully put in to it. Honestly could have been the best Superhero game ever if they woulda really made their own story that completely wasn’t influenced by the MCU, and if combat was expanded. If this was ultimate Alliance with more levels and a roster of like 25 it would have been the best game ever
I'm going to play it with my brothers, bought it 9€ in France, I swear the first hours are feeling really great, now we will see at end game but I'l sure we will have some fun with this game. Animations are really great. And to be honest for the price, it's all I ask.
Im addicted and now with all the outfits unlocked and a plethora of different missions in 4 uniquely campaigns and a pretty fun multiplayer I love it. Each hero feels unique and refreshing with an addictive levelling system and lots of rewarding loot scattered across the different maps to reward exploration. It does happen to be quite repetitive and it could do with more variety in its gameplay and levels. That said the game is fun and engaging to a point of being addictive, especially recommended for marvel fans 8/10 genuinely enjoyable just a tad repetitive
they did have Marvel Heroes....imagine the money that could have gone into that game? Especially when DC Suck is still around...and was always a far inferior game
I don’t like that it’s a game that feels like a lot of side quests. Going to the same places over and over again with the “new quests!!” Thing. I woulda much rather it be a game/story that was straightforward, think Wolverine. I have it in my collection, but it’s not a game I would play again.
I just recently got it and I’m 97% through the main story line mission. I initially wanted it upon release but I wanted for the reviews and yeah, I didn’t get it! 😂 I saw a few weeks ago it was on sale on the PS store for like idk $3.99 or $5.99 so not much risk involved there if I didn’t like it. Initially I was really intrigued and was having a lot of fun with it. However the monotony of lotting and trying to fit the best gear every 15min is just exhausting! The gear is overly complicated, I’m not against the lotting in general but this style of it is too far overboard. You’ll spend countless hours browsing gear and trying to decide which is the best for you. The biggest disappointment as I got towards the end of the story line is every mission is the same thing on a different map with slightly different enemies. I could however push through all that tho, what has really made me stop playing in at the 97% mark is the length of the missions. It’s already monotonous but then they make it drag on forever and day! You do the same thing 3 different times and right when you think it’s over you get another objective to do it again somewhere else lol is maddening!

Just downloaded it last week through PS Plus Extra wanting only to play the main campaign. So far, few hours in, the campaign story is fun but the gameplay feels mehh. Serviceable but very looter-brawler mindnumbing repetitiveness with boring enemies.
Just started playing again and with everything free and unlocked plus I’ve been getting like double resources and xp and from playing on the slow ps4 it makes me feel like I’m actually progressing and I felt like it was up to par from when it initially released I’ll be playing it again soon in the future
It's currently $10 on the PlayStation store but I would rather buy an indie game that is much worth supporting. It could have been a decent game but greed ruined it
I absolutely loved the game at launch. Thought the combat was great, but the paywall wasn't worth supporting. I also find that any game with repeat missions like these gets VERY repetitive after a while, and they made you grind the s**t outta those to get any of the cool cosmetics and finishers that you wanted. But the bugs! Good lord! I haven't touched the game in a long time so I don't even know if they ever fixed the bug that made it impossible to pick up the orbs that were used to replenish health and special attack gauges. That was ridiculously annoying and went on for so long that I just assumed they would never figure out how to fix it. And that was just the tip of the iceberg on a laundry list of bugs that were significantly more game breaking than that. It felt like the game would just randomly pick a player and just mess with them. All in all, the game was fun enough at first to deal with the bugs, but after it got old and redundant, it just wasn't fun anymore.

Nah, best Marvel Games ever made are Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2. I still own them on next gen, got em both for 20$ right before they got delisted and at that Time i didnt even know they were going to be delisted. You can imagine how happy i was after learning this.
Got Gamepass late and sadly Avengers is leaving in a few days, but I have been enjoying the graphics, gameplay and story in the meantime. I'm thinking of picking it up to finish on my own time because the price is currently at $5.99 in the store
Everything being free is why I tried it out plus it being taken off the store. The story is decent enough to be worth the $7 I paid for it but so much of the stuff in the game is a mess.

The reason I stopped playing this game was because of all the micro transactions, the lack of enemies. There’s only like the abomination and robots, and all variations, and it was glitchy but now it’s not so with everything being free I am definitely going to try it I have some old school, comic book, façades, and play all those crazy robots again, - And I heard the DLC with black panther is actually really good

I just redownloaded the game after I saw the last update go live. And my god, I’m having a lot of fun with it🤣never thought I’d say that.
Its interesting that once everything becomes free and unlockable people hate it less even if the game is still not great -- Devs take note, this is what we've been saying all along.
I enjoyed it at launch, beat the game and some post game stuff. I have to say I prefer it now replaying because they made the heroes feel more powerful. I do wish they'd have had time to make the paid skins droppable, earnable, or craftable

I think the game is actually pretty good. It could've been a hell of a lot better, but I give it a 7/10. It's much better now that everything has been released for free. I noticed that the gameplay felt fresher with all the takedowns being available. War For Wakanda was the best part of the game imo.
But like don't you spend like 90% of the game fighting the same mindless A.I.M robots?

He's made a good point there "feels fresher now that all the takedowns are available" that will make victories feel more rewarding, and it was you and your control input at the right time that made it happen. That's where the reward of it comes from in combat
@@dazzaboy04 Problem is, I never found that there was any room for creativity in combat, since the enemies are so mindless and you always have hordes of basic grunt bots charging at you for melee attacks.
Lack of enemy variety is fine in some games, such as in stealth or open world games where you can experiment. This game desperately needed for at least half of the game to be taken up by another faction, such as more fleshed out watch-dogs or Taskmaster's faction (basically some kind of faction of non-robot enemies where most grunts fight from range)
Also, the fact that when you rarely come across a human soldier, it takes like three hits from Hulk's fists or f*kin Mjolnir to kill them.. just completely ruins the feel of playing as those characters.
In my opinion, the game is actually pretty good. It could've been better, but I'll give it a 7/10. It's much better now that everything has been released for free. Comparing the game to when I last played it, the gameplay felt fresher with all the takedowns now being free. The best campaign would be War For Wakanda.

The fact that, in a universe with such a varied amount of villainous factions, we spend 95% of the game fighting the same old mindless, boring robots is just pathetic.
Also there's how underpowered the avengers are, it really shouldn't take more than one punch from the Hulk to take out some grunt.
I recently rebooted the game today after I stopped mid Black Panther storyline. After an hour of playing, I realized this game was amazing. Not all games are perfect, but this game didn't deserve the hate it received. I believe people will look back at this game in years-to-come with regret because they never supported it.

It's great that you enjoyed it, and it's a shame you've missed out. But mindlessly punching and shooting the same braindead robots as underpowered heroes for 95% of the game just isn't fun to most people.
If it had just ditched the looter mechanics (just doesn't suit the Avengers at all) and had WAY more variety in it's enemies and missions at launch, it likely would have had way more support.
Plus, if they hadn't gone the "live service" and always online route, it wouldn't have mattered when they stop supporting it. They made that decision.

Got it because it’s on gamepass. Always wanted to try it just to see what it is like. While it’s great all the costumes are now free and it’s fun playing as your favorite hero (for me Cap), the gameplay is just so boring. Every single hero plays the same. Spam x, hit or hold why, same exact range attacks and blocking mechanics. The only difference is you’ll be throwing a shield or a rock or repulsers or shooting arrows or bullets… not really much fun.
After a few hours I felt like I had seen everything there was to see outside of the story and deleted the game. Wasn’t worth taking up over 100 gigs of storage.
You can do a hero game, but people gotta understand all of them have strengths and weaknesses. Can’t make all of them flow the same way. I knew when you could make Widow a tank character on here it was gonna die 😅
Absolutely. I really think a *successful* Avengers game would need actual enemy variety, including types that certain heroes just have no business fighting, or at least not solo'ing, and each hero having a role and list of tasks (that's the other thing: variety in mission objectives). Widow should be entirely about stealth, sabotage and assassination. Disabling enemy defenses and doing high spikes of damage in a hit and run type of play style, because going head-on should absolutely just get her killed in the majority of encounters.
But then Hulk should be all about taking on the biggest enemies in the room and drawing all the aggro (thus making Widow's job easier). I would even say he should just one shot any "grunt" category enemy types, regardless of build or levels, but be incentivized to not waste his time on them, those enemies are for other heroes to take on. The team doesn't need Hulk (and same would apply for Thor) to be targeting the low power mobs, they need him holding down and tanking the 20 foot tall mech or monster that would one shot the team's Captain America.

The problem with that is that you have to do gameplay and balance for all those individual strengths and weaknesses of each superhero. That's economically tough to do. If you are going to do all that, you'd be better off just making multiple single super hero games instead.
Well that's not entirely true. The real problem is not trying to make individual superheroes, but also trying to make it a live service game where players are expected to buy extra content. It's the making all that extra content for each character that gets prohibitively expensive if each character is unique.
@@KenMathis1 not really, you give them their capabilities. Avengers don’t have to be together 24/7. Could have specific missions where they split and have their own objectives on a map, and or fighting their own rivals 1on1. That only would of give-the game hella depth. Doesn’t always have to be 4 heroes. Need way more villains. And missions come as alerts. Like Red hood is attacking Egypt for some artifact, you can grab cap and a friend can bring hulk, but when you bring hulk he is countered with some crazy thing he has to deal with if he doesn’t have a strong rival there. Make the. Characters have value. Hulk or Thor there and it should be triple the amount of enemies. Strategic, stealth, all should come into play.

You are still making extra work for just one game, when instead you could could pick 1 or 2 characters and make a full game just with them, but for less effort. In addition, if your characters are going to be split up and do their own thing, that defeats the point of having them in the game together. You'd just be making a bunch on individual games, bundling them in the one game, and having the player only play a portion of them.
Finally, it wouldn't feel good to play if the game automatically countered whatever character you chose to take on a mission. It would take away the feeling that the player actually made a meaningful choice.

Your review actually scares me! Because I'm learning to be a game developer myself & in my opinion, based on the things I've learned, THIS GAME SHOULD HAVE WORKED. You mentioned that all heroes play similarly, well yeah that shouldn't count as a fault because they all are made in the same game engine & it's pretty well done if you ask me. I'm not supporting their business practices by any means. I hate micro transactions just as much as the next person. All I'm just saying, if you ever wanted to play your favorite marvel heroes all together in one Triple A action game, it couldn't get any better than this. Not at least within the next ten years of technology enhancements. I have the ps5 physical copy & still play it & appreciate it for what it is.

Not gonna lie, got it on gamepass and it's good for a story play through. The gear system is odd and doesn't fit at all though.
It seems the game will still be playable after shutting down and you don't need to be online to play. I have the ps4 version, which is not that great but hey I'm on a budget.

All online features will still work, etc. All that's happening is being taken off the store as the licence is expiring and there will be no more updates. But all features will still work. Shutting down really is not the right term. It's just being delisted from the store

If they had of started like midnight suns and came up with a better story and we’re actually consistent like it should been vs months of nothing it would of been dope. I feel like they got lazy with actual game content and character development. I literally played every character and maxed them out but it just got stale.

Funny enough after 3 years of playing this game I never bought skins but you can grind for resources from the character cards(basically their version of the battle pass but for each character, and they're free), and doing them gets you enough to buy at least 1 mcu skin. The only people complain about having to buy skins are the ones that don't realize EVERY EXPANSION and DLC characters are free. You know how they can afford doing that? From skins. The problem was that was a bad idea, should've made the expansions, skins and dlc paid, then made the game free. If they'd done that it would've been the xenovese of marvel games; a game that kept getting dlc but people prefer it ends rather it rarely gets dlc and people still wanting it to end because it's dry asf
It's not "shutting down" in the sense that online servers are not being taken off, and everything will still work.

The base game is not that bad but the Hawkeye and especially War for Wakanda expansion is awesome and much better than the main game. It got a lot of hate (rightfully so) but it did do things right too. The storytelling and graphics for one are awesome.
I'm still mad they didn't really do anything with Spiderman and how clunky his web swings are Spiderman shouldn't feel heavy to play with but Light
The game is really good now has a ton of content not sure if it’s full price worthy atm but all the expansions and dlc combined is worth around 40-50$

I got a box for 14 dollars from walmart, it came with patches with all the main characters logos on it, and i have to say i genuinely enjoy the game, i understand peoples problems with it, which are all valid, but i play games to have fun, and ive done that, so im happy with my purchase
I tried it on Game Pass since it's shutting down. I played for like 3 hours then I stopped coz I was bored. My main gripe is that the missions are tedious and generic. The animation and VFX are great tbf, but I can't keep myself invested to the game if the missions are generic af.

I looked for 2023 review after I have just tried the game -got it in a discounted bundle along guardians of the galaxy, which is awesome- and I 100% agree with what you said. This game is a 6.5/10, no more, no less. Had fun with it and I am going back to it yet again I did NOT pay full price for it which is pretty fair. Thank you for a fair review.

I'm so glad that the game no longer has live support. Now I'll finally be able to play it.
I spent more time watching loading screens than actually playing the game.
Through all these years, every time I tried to play it I kept waiting in loading screens for updates, autosaves or live service feeds. It kept asking me for system downloads and crap that left me bored! I ended up uninstalling it.
Now I can simply put the game on and enjoy it!
I enjoyed it in is original state but only enough to finish the campaign. Since the delisting and final update is actually become one of my go-to games. It's surprising how much more enjoyable the game can be with 90% of the suits available. Having all the finishers adds variety and makes the game feel less repetitive... But most importantly leveling up doesn't feel like a massive chore anymore.
I play everyday now and even though I usually just do the daily missions for each faction and maybe a villain sector or two. There is something about it that keeps bringing me back though. I do enjoy switching my character up a lot and think that most of the characters play really well. Hulk is probably the only character I'd say I don't enjoy but I'm probably just expecting too much as a huge Ultimate Destruction fan. It would have been nice to have gotten She-Hulk before they delisted the game, I was actually really looking forward to her coming into the game.
I was close to beating the campaign in 2020 and just beat it, but I can't bring myself to continue. The mission design is so dull and repetetive that it's not worth my time to see the rest of the story stuff because it's a grind fest. I loved the Guardians game so it sucks that Avengers had to be a live service game and absolutely not Crystal's thing.
If it was for all the bugs n lack of content and empty promises it would’ve been one of best games out! And you’re wrong it’s not mainly kids….consider how many Avengers games ever been made
Cool Review was struggeling if i should get this now for like 6 bucks, and i guess this helped me find out.
Also i think a "good" Avengers game, could be possible, but the dev would have to do this in episodes or with every Avenger beeing a separate paid dlc, like releasing the first one with only the story bits of Character X, Iron Man for example, so you have all the story scenes in which you play as iron man, even if some of them would be later in the game.
Then with the second one you get the next Character - i mean this sounds weird and best descriped like they tried to do with Final Fantasy 15, where they tried to bring out these story dlc where you find out what happend to the individual Characters.
Because i think, if they focus on doing a complete game with so many Avegners, they start doing it like they did in this game - everyone can be played for almost every mission. Having them develop each of them individual this might be a much better experience, but the most devs/publishers dont have the money/time/patience for that. And i dont think most of the buyers would have the patience for something like this.
Sorry btw for so much text but i really find that idea interesting, that their would be ways to have better games with a movie/series license, they just would require a bit more work.
You know what would be nice to see if now that everything is free in the game people returned to it and play it and play it, it would be nice to see and watch what they would do.

After all this smoke has cleared, I actually like the game, I wish this was Ultimate Alliance and not Avengers with a more unique storyline and characters. Don’t get me wrong completely understand its downfall and where improvements could have been made and why I didn’t play it at first, but now, as someone who grew up on beat em ups like Ultimate Alliance I kinda love this game
Honestly hated the marketing for the video game they clearly used Mark Ruffalo to promote the game using his MCU hulk faces in the commercials but the hulk looked nothing like that in the actual game that’s just cheap and trash to me they had 5 fucking years to make a masterpiece and it looks like they took the last 1 year and half to make this game and this was the results smfh

I get ultimate alliance vibes without the nuance and love fully put in to it. Honestly could have been the best Superhero game ever if they woulda really made their own story that completely wasn’t influenced by the MCU, and if combat was expanded. If this was ultimate Alliance with more levels and a roster of like 25 it would have been the best game ever
I'm going to play it with my brothers, bought it 9€ in France, I swear the first hours are feeling really great, now we will see at end game but I'l sure we will have some fun with this game. Animations are really great. And to be honest for the price, it's all I ask.

Im addicted and now with all the outfits unlocked and a plethora of different missions in 4 uniquely campaigns and a pretty fun multiplayer I love it. Each hero feels unique and refreshing with an addictive levelling system and lots of rewarding loot scattered across the different maps to reward exploration. It does happen to be quite repetitive and it could do with more variety in its gameplay and levels. That said the game is fun and engaging to a point of being addictive, especially recommended for marvel fans 8/10 genuinely enjoyable just a tad repetitive
One of my actual gripes with this game that I think no one has mentioned is how the camera is so shaky it gets you nauseated.
Options > Camera > Shake Senaitivity > Set that to zero.
I'm personally glad the game flopped. A wake up call for these greedy devs. Sucks we had to sacrifice marvel for it for the time being though
they did have Marvel Heroes....imagine the money that could have gone into that game? Especially when DC Suck is still around...and was always a far inferior game
I don’t like that it’s a game that feels like a lot of side quests. Going to the same places over and over again with the “new quests!!” Thing. I woulda much rather it be a game/story that was straightforward, think Wolverine. I have it in my collection, but it’s not a game I would play again.

I just recently got it and I’m 97% through the main story line mission. I initially wanted it upon release but I wanted for the reviews and yeah, I didn’t get it! 😂
I saw a few weeks ago it was on sale on the PS store for like idk $3.99 or $5.99 so not much risk involved there if I didn’t like it.
Initially I was really intrigued and was having a lot of fun with it. However the monotony of lotting and trying to fit the best gear every 15min is just exhausting! The gear is overly complicated, I’m not against the lotting in general but this style of it is too far overboard. You’ll spend countless hours browsing gear and trying to decide which is the best for you.
The biggest disappointment as I got towards the end of the story line is every mission is the same thing on a different map with slightly different enemies.
I could however push through all that tho, what has really made me stop playing in at the 97% mark is the length of the missions. It’s already monotonous but then they make it drag on forever and day! You do the same thing 3 different times and right when you think it’s over you get another objective to do it again somewhere else lol is maddening!
I just held square lol that upgrade menu was just too detailed and complicated. Guardian of the galaxy made it straight to the point.

Just downloaded it last week through PS Plus Extra wanting only to play the main campaign. So far, few hours in, the campaign story is fun but the gameplay feels mehh. Serviceable but very looter-brawler mindnumbing repetitiveness with boring enemies.

I absolutely loved the game at launch. Thought the combat was great, but the paywall wasn't worth supporting. I also find that any game with repeat missions like these gets VERY repetitive after a while, and they made you grind the s**t outta those to get any of the cool cosmetics and finishers that you wanted. But the bugs! Good lord! I haven't touched the game in a long time so I don't even know if they ever fixed the bug that made it impossible to pick up the orbs that were used to replenish health and special attack gauges. That was ridiculously annoying and went on for so long that I just assumed they would never figure out how to fix it. And that was just the tip of the iceberg on a laundry list of bugs that were significantly more game breaking than that. It felt like the game would just randomly pick a player and just mess with them. All in all, the game was fun enough at first to deal with the bugs, but after it got old and redundant, it just wasn't fun anymore.

Nah, best Marvel Games ever made are Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2. I still own them on next gen, got em both for 20$ right before they got delisted and at that Time i didnt even know they were going to be delisted. You can imagine how happy i was after learning this.
Got Gamepass late and sadly Avengers is leaving in a few days, but I have been enjoying the graphics, gameplay and story in the meantime.

The reason I stopped playing this game was because of all the micro transactions, the lack of enemies.
