Started following your techniques for my quail years ago and still check this channel every week. Useful, valuable information, and it’s free! Thank you sir, from Australia
I've never raised quail, but when I process rabbits I make sure the meat is wet brined before rigor mortis sets in. Once the animal is dead it takes about an hour before rigor mortis will start. Once started, rigor mortis will usually last one or two days. Cells need oxygen to produce ATP. After death occurs, cells are able to temporarily obtain oxygen by breaking down sugar in a process called glycolysis. Once sugar is no longer available for this chemical process, calcium is able to infiltrate the cells, causing rigor mortis to begin. If the meat is brined before rigor mortis sets in, sodium from the salt will bind with calcium to prevent rigor mortis.
Came back & revisited the blog, just dispatched a small batch. I did use a cut off 2 liter bottle , to set bird in ,to bled out, kinda like the Chicken cones. worked pretty good. I breasted, Then removed the leg/thigh seperately. Their in cooler now till tomorrow. Thanks Chris.
I just found your account and really enjoy it! Lots of great info! I just hatched my first clutch a couple days ago. Will be visiting your page often for more great tips ☺️ thank you for sharing!
Nice channel. Thank you, for making nice videos and sharing. I’m new to quail and just starting. If raising just for meat, how old should quail be to process efficiently.
Enjoyed, I've need to build another big hutch, too use as a grow out, have a small one. Definetly need too hatch clutch out too replace my egg layers, their getting older. Oh What day you cooking them, so I'll know to accidental drop by😋😊. Thanks again, God Bless.
Do you ever use the tilted cage so the eggs will roll to the edge for easier collection? How much feed do you go through the life of a clutch of birds?
@@SageandStoneHomestead Yes I do, it is a work that teaches patience though, but I would have a rebellion on the table if the skin was not on the bird. ;-)
Have not seen it being stunned before the snip. We find it easier, faster and humane to just snip. Why hurt the little thing if you’re going to snip it’s head off anyways. Not judging just seems more humane to just do it(snip)

Maybe you could put your portable critter Cage in the big side, then go to the small side and scare them right into it?
HAHAHA I am watching this right now thinking the same thing! THE most redneck thing is how he caught those birds :)
Good video. Very temping way to do it without skin. So fast. Time saver. God bless you guys. Prayers for you, wife and family.

good job, what time should I be over for dinner???
Come over any time. We have just enough room in the freezer for you.
Thank you for the video. Godspeed friend.
nice video, another one for the butchering/processing playlist and Max Supervising the process 😊
Looks pretty simple!! Since we got more stacking cages in our garage, we have thought about getting quail.

It would be interesting to know what it cost to feed each bird .
Great videos Chris! Super helpful!
I was pretty shocked that you caught them all as fast as you did.Good video.
You can let the rigor settle out after it thaws if you need.
I enjoy your videos!!
Can you plz do an up close video of how you are doing it ?

Hey Chris where do you get your quail from i'm just starting out and looking for quail and rabbits
Check Craigslist
Are you not crushing the breast meat when you tear upwards which changes the texture of the meat?
Its obviously faster that way, but you loose al that delicious skin.
Do you hand pluck? I should try that.
You put the quail under boiling water for 30 seconds and hand pluck the feathers out

Max, Max; Max....lol. He makes the show.
My white quail hen is broody 🤔
Why hunt the birds between the different part of the cage. When you fix it, fix a board so you can isolate the bird in one end of the cage.
Tip for blood removal from a woman who knows. Peroxide. Get it while its fresh.
Before you kill , YOU SHOULD PRAY !!!
You really have a natural act in front of the camera- how? Lol

Nothing wrong with that. I have done it both ways.
