Boston Whalers vs Haulover Inlet (The Unsinkable Legend) BOAT ZONE

  • Boston Whalers are boats that have a reputation for being unsinkable. It’s their motto for advertising, but does this accurately describe them? Is a Boston Whaler really unsinkable? The brand further claims that their boat building team renders superior workmanship that makes them the best choice for safety and dependability. We were intrigued with the claim and really wanted to know so we looked into the claim to learn everything we could to determine if it is really true. Here is what we learned.

It was great to see an entire video dedicated just to Boston Whalers. They are still fine boats. I would just say to those going out this inlet in them, with the kinds of conditions they had, just have everyone on board wear a PFD.

Somehow when I was in 10th grade my mom was ok with me taking my brand new 13' Boston Whaler up & down the Manasquan River, NJ & if the wind was right, out to the mile marker in the Atlantic Ocean (this was in the mid 1980's). I would ride my bike to the marina to use the boat. One day I came back way past the time that I said I'd be back. My family called the Coast Guard & supposedly they were looking for me. When I pulled up to my house on my bike, I got layed into by my mom & grandfather. Right now my oldest daughter is in 10th grade and there isn't a snowballs chance in hell that I would even let her ride her bike to the marina, let alone fire up a boat with her friend & go down the river and into the ocean.

Here from Missouri and surounded by (big) lakes....we see (many types and shapes) roll thru...not to mention HUGE boats...in my opinion belong in the open waters of the sea! Though our lakes can take them on.... perhaps their looking for more peaceful romantic life that a calm lake (simple) waves give them than violent waves! Just thinking how weird to see (small) boats there tackling waves and/surviving! Sadly here there's many boating accidents (which sure there of course) which here small area lakes unfortunate! It gets crazy here too! Anyway GREAT FAV of 'MIDNITE EXPRESS' preferably 4 to 6 450 HP Mercury's lowboard trailing behind! Love the excitement...love it LIFE

@@goaski474 Uh, nah. Overpricing is a thing, and Boston Whalers are notoriously overpriced. Frankly, I'm surprised that the brand has lasted. They still haven't figured out hull design. Whalers are the wettest boat on the water. They should provide 5 free sets of rain gear for every boat they sell to prevent the owners from getting soaked to the skin and freezing cold on every trip out. They used to have a model called the "Sakonnet." They should have spelled it "suck-on-it."

    • @jeffs6819

That has been the Whaler's Slogan - unsinkable - if you go back in history that have advertised where they have a 13 footer in a lake and cut it in half with a chain saw and neither side sank. The are supposed to have superior floatation. My friend has a 17 foot Montauk and it is a good boat. They are pricey! Curious as to why people go out in heavy waves without wearing a life vest? I am aware it is not "manly" but I wear a Mustang inflatable when I go out on my friends boat in a lake. Yes - I can swim but I can also hit my head on the bow or stern when I go over in a rogue wave too!

The montauk is foam core.. There is literally no voids in the hull... You could pound every inch of it with your fist, and it will all sound the same... Solid.. No real give... You can fill the boat with a firehose, to the gunnels, with a full load of people on board, and the power head of the outboard will still be above water.. Will it protect you from stupidity at the helm? Well. It sure will make the effort... You could take it out, shoot it full of holes with a 50 caliber, and still float
