Its good to finally see a video essay on the 60th made by someone with an actual brain. I saw plenty of positive reactions to the 60th, but far too many ones made by bigots or people who hopped on the hate-bandwagon for views. Thankyou.
This was exactly what I was trying to counter with this video, so I'm happy that someone appreciated it.
I’m glad someone is calling out the many videos made by bigots. It’s annoying since how they say the show is “woke” when Dr Who is being more inclusive to people. It’s hypocritical since those hate band-wagoners are showing more political agenda than Dr Who is.

Doctor Who isn’t about happy endings. And that’s a good thing. It teaches kids that in life bad things are going to happen and there’s nothing anyone can do to change them. But life always has new adventures and experiences waiting and THAT’S what’s going to make you feel alive.
i think this video is what really sold me on bigeneration. like yes, its an asspull, yes it lowers the stakes, and its absolutely contrived, but i think the nareative function it serves in regards to 10/14s emotional arc is very important, and i think im ok with it. also if youre mad about doctor who breaking its own rules, you're watching the wrong show.
This video is amazingly structured and consice without feeling rushed. That ain't easy.
4:30 - this is Tennant and Tate doing a silly Get the band Back Together bit. We don't want Serious Storytelling. This is a Doctor Who Xmas Special: it's gonna be campy and cheerful and upbeat.
11:00 - YES. As much as I love the Heady Gritty melodrama from the 9th Doctor ain the series revival, but Doctor Who should have some silliness. The Doctor is a queer time Travelling alien in a silly phone booth. Let's have a lark with it!
Finally a review talking about how incredible and how important the 60th anniversary was. Showing how its a character study for the 14th doctor needing a break and spending his life with the nobles and then the 15th doctor continuing thise adventures just without all the anger and frustration. It was great to see a vudeo not complaining about the inclusion of characters who are diverse in their own way which is meant to show how far doctor who has rly come.
While I didn't particularly liked the specials and have my worries with going forward, I do appreciate the idea of the show trying to be fun and silly again and leaving behind the emotional baggage that quite frankly made it be quite gloomy for what's supposed to be a kid's show. Which at the end of the day it's the audience that actually matters as they are the ones that'll be inspired and grow up with the Doctor as a role model, just like I did nearly two decades ago.
I welcome these changes, even if I realize the show feels like it isn't for me anymore. I'll still watch it and I hope I manage to have a better time than I did with the specials or the entirety of 13's run, but if that's not that case, I am glad to know it's relevant content being made by people who cares about the series. I got my closure with Capaldi's departure, that was for me the perfect jumping off point as it wrapped up in a way that felt like a proper series finale. Everything past that is just "Doctor Who 2" for me, it had a rough start but I'm glad it's back on tracks with RTD and Ncuti and I hope modern audiences love it and learn from it as much as I did from "Doctor Who 1".

It's difficult because there truly are cases where no happy ending can be achieved, like The Caves of Androzani. That was one of my favorite classic episodes. I like the drama because it accentuates the flaws of humanity, and how good acts can lead to such greater outcomes.
The issue though is, I don't think this is as happy as you think. Remember the past "presents" the Toymaker has given to The Doctor. I have a theory that I'm currently scripting, as it shouldn't be my story to tell. Anyways, great video! New subscriber gained. I just wanted to share my thoughts.
Whilst i personally didnt like these specials...its a great analysis there....i suffer so much right now and i appreciated what they want to do and appreciate what RTD wanted to do eith these episodes and next era the world is bleak i find it cathartic to immerse myself with dark humour and horrors in the world ....in a tongue in cheek way ....my kindness was taken advantage of and ive been put through the ringer it makes me laugh through my tears ...i moreso appreciate your snakysis of the specials than the specials themselces...well done on thus video
I do like that they've got him in the wings ready to go if they wanna do another Tennant special, him and Ncuti are both really charismatic so they're great together.

Personally I much prefer the dark doctor who and have the doctor struggling and depressed, seeing someone go through hell and keep going is more comforting to me and makes me more joyous than happy endings where the stakes feel like a cheat because there are no real repercussions
I really hated The Star Beast and the The Giggle but this video was a lovely exploration of the many good things about the specials and I’m so glad I have good lens to view them through. I mean, I still hate two out of three but viewing them as RTD’s positive reconsidering of past storytelling is really interesting. Thank you

I prefer the selfless grace of Smith and other Doctors regenerations over the 'I don't want to go' angst and grief of Tennants. I think this is an excellent video post and is well argued but I simply have a different perpsective.,

This isn’t a video I’d expect from this channel but I very much appreciate it.
As much as I liked a lot of the high drama and angst the show got up to in the past decade (Heaven Sent might be my favorite episode of the show, ever) it’ll be nice to get back to having the show be consistently more light hearted and silly.

Call me cold-hearted but I preferred the tragic endings. Got a much stronger emotional response from me than the usual good guy wins scenario.
I've always preferred Spider-Man for a similar reason, even though he always manages to save the day, he has to lose something in return. The girl, the job, the easier life. I dunno, just always works for me.
I think it's possible to make logical good endings. The episode with the gas mask children in WW2 was like that. It was super grim and dark, but then turned into a happy ending. And the doctor even says "Just this once, everyone gets to live!"
