Here's a true story that never made it into the Documentary about the Sweet! Back in the Mid 70's, Sweet and Eric Carmen, played at the Century Theater, in Buffalo, NY. I like Sweet and went with Gary Sperrazza!, a rock critic, whom I was friends with. The show as great. Afterwards, Gary caught word of where the band was staying and we decided to check it out! Somehow, Gary never made it but I went into the hotel (may have been a Holiday Inn on Delaware Avenue. None the less, to my surprise, I looked almost like one of the drummers for Eric Carmen (he was touring with two onstage). As I entered the lobby, someone came up to me and said that I should go into one of the private rooms. I did and it was where the band (Sweet) was holding post concert 'meet & greet'. The band and about 10 - 12 people were sitting around a long table, discussing the show. I sat down and of course, free drinks. I knew no one but everyone was probably mistaking me for the Eric Carmen drummer. (I was invited to a few 'parties' afterward). After about 20 minutes of concert talk, Andy Scott asked the table what everyone thought of his 5 - 7 minute guitar solo. I was musician and deeply into music at that time.(So, now you have to remember, I'm from Buffalo, where you ask a question, you'll get an answer, an honest answer) I blurted out, (after consuming a drink or two), I said, "Your solo was good but it was too long". WHOA! THAT DID IT! Andy, apparently took offense at it, and leaped up and was about to start throwing fists when the guys on either side of him restrained him! He had me by about 30 pounds at the time so it would have been over pretty quickly! I went to a few parties with members of both bands and spent a few hours, with Brian Connolly, at the bar shooting the breeze. But that's a story for another day... Sorry for the length, however, it was great. How many people can tell stories at how they almost got decked by a band they went to see? HAHAHA!
@@phillarsson8253 Just for the record, Brian and I both went to the bar at the same time nd just hit it off. We hung out for about two hours. He had some absolutely beautiful ladies/women, trying to get him to bite on the bait, however, he was not interested in any snapper and told me a number of times, how he wanted to be at home with his wife and new baby daughter. (He truly missed his wife and child!) I felt bad for him. In retrospect, I wish I would have had the nerve to suggest that we go out for cruise, as it was a nice night, and I would have showed him around Buffalo for a few hours instead of us just drinking. (which inevitably was his downfall) (BTW Sweet were great live and I don't believe they ever got their due in the music business!
@@bigvrocks2480 Thanks for the feedback. I think it shows how sensitive Brian really was and so maybe it was life on the road and the strain it put upon family life that got to him (indulging into drinking). Sure he would have appreciated you taking him for a cruise and maybe you should have, but time just cannot be reversed. Can't agree more about Sweet's live performing ability and that they should get lot's more of credit to what they meant in rock history.
@@phillarsson8253 I've always heard that Brian was really a very nice guy, and that in real life he was rather shy and humble. But he was gorgeous back then, no doubt. There were a couple of big egos in that band ... naming no names ;)
@@rubydazzler Well, you know...any great band has it's ego's and sometimes that's what it takes to lift a band to a higher level and eventually to their peak. Sadly often then, some of those ego's can collide at a certain point and mostly it's downhill with a band from that moment on.
Junin Sweet was just high energy bubblegum music, especially Fox On The Run and Ballroom Blitz. My sister played Ballroom Blitz constantly like 20 times in a row when she was 14 years old.
scott hutchens She obviously had taste. Their early hits were bubblegum, when they were controlled by Chinn/Chapman. But try listening to the b-sides. Pure hard rock, or their later songs when they had more say in the output.
Am a huge sweet fan. Back in the 80's i used to get post about the great band every 3 month of the year. The post stopped at the end of 89 90. I wrote to the fan club ,but they didn't reply . so i gave up..Wish they come to Cardiff Wales.
I must say I have loved Sweet for a very, very long time. I have seen many, many live bands, I was born in 1973 and since last Saturday I haven't been able to stop smiling. I have always argued that the singer was the sound of any band. I must say I was proved wrong. You are so awesome! Down to earth, and true to yourselves. You took the piss out of yourselves when you made mistakes, even though they were not obvious. You were so awesome, I don't want to tell anyone how good you were because I am selfish and want to see you in small venues so I can keep you all to myself! My Christmas came very early this year, I still can't believe it.
Just as well this is text cos I don't think I could actually speak at the moment having just watched the Musikladen 74 show twice....what a buzz! A privilege to see, you guys really rocked, loved all the interactions between you all. I could go on and on.......Thank you x
HI ANDY FROM ARIZONA USA. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ABOUT REMEMBERING HOW YOU FEELT WHEN I FIRST HEARD SWEET. IT GAVE ME BUTTERFLIES IN MY STOMACH. I COULD NOT GET ENOUGH OF THE GROUP. I HAD ONLY LISTENED TO YO ON VYNIL AND THIS YEAR THANKS TO THE COMPUTER I SAW MY FAVORITE SONG ON VIDEO. AND IT BROUGHT ALL THOSE FEELINGS BACK FROM WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER I AM SORRY I NEVER GOT TO SEE YOU LIVE. BUT YOU ARE IN MY TOP5 OFMYTOP 10 GROUPS.
You had to be where I was in time. This band and song "Action" killed me. I do remember the moment I heard it. It, the entire 8 track, hooked me on this band. Just going through this video is taking me everywhere I can go to find Sweet songs. Ok I'm a bit stoned and yep I'm over 60yrs old.
Ok, finally! A SWEET doc created by a SWEET member! Thank you, Andy! Fantastic! My 3 boys (ages 12, 10, and 9) are SWEET fans, and each has a different fav song.
Why is "give us a wink" such a lost album? Yesterday's Rain has always been a favorite of mine and it never gets the respect it deserves. One of the many Sweet lost treasures... thanks for all these great moments.
It's my favourite Sweet album for sure, but then again: when I put on 'Sweet Fanny Adams', i think: this is their greatest, same thing with 'Desolation' and 'Off the record'
Great compostion of Sweet songs! One thing though, I was listening to the disco mix of 'Fox on the Run' but it doesn't actually start until 58 seconds into the song, lol? Doesn't matter to me really, but my guess it wasn't on purpose? Yeah, I bought both the DVD and CD's of 'Sweet "Action! The Ultimate Sweet Story'. But I would recommend anyone that is looking for a truly great compostion of Sweet songs to buy the newer release called 'Sensational Sweet, Chapter One - The Wild Bunch'. Have had so much fun listening to this one and it includes all first albums with covers, etc. Also has a lot of live sessions, etc. A lot of CD's!! Much appreciated! :) Thanks Andy!
saw them last week at the Hob Nob festival in Almelo. very enjoyable show, although i still wish they'd play all of Love Is Like Oxygen. great sounding band keeping the music alive. i'd go again.
now I finally know who the character Nigel Tufnel was mainly based on.. I wonder if his amp went to 11. Seriously though, I would love to have seen Sweet in their hayday, fuckin awesome band!
The final sweet squeeze of fan dollars. Lol Those glam years must of been sweet. Before my time but very fun to discover. Mick Tucker’s drumming and Brian’s vocals were Sweet.
First heard Sweet's songs in the mid '70's as a teen on the radio. ONE BIG PROBLEM! Couldn't buy any of their albums. Why? Didn't know their name. Why? Again? The DJ's back then wouldn't announce the name of the band, just the song title. It would be days or a week before I'ld hear that one hit song again. DJ's that did mention their name would say it at the end of the song where I'ld hear "That's SWEET!" thinking that was the DJ's description of their music. It was just in the last ten years that I finally found out the name of the band. I'm just now starting to buy their CD's. Ballroom Blitz is my favorite song among the rest of their hits. There sound is how a rock-n-roll band should sound, bigger than life where you can hear the vocals, from the guitar from the drums. Amazon samples of their entire albums are like discovering a new band. Musically it's a breath of fresh air. Even the new recordings of covers on the "New York Groove" album sounds huge. And I'm hoping to buy the CD of their 40 year anniversary to here the remastered hits and the rest of their work.
got my dvd today in australia from jb hi fi and i think the musikaden concert is a must for any sweet fan the quality is excellent. The rest is a bonus although i had alot of it already but the $40 was worth it just for the musikladen concert alone.

I love Sweet, especially early hits, but to comment 1.50 "Glam rock boom at the time that the band dominated like no other", I think Bolan, Bowie, and Slade fans, may argue the point. Good luck with the issue of Greatest Hits!
Thank you very much for this documentary talking about the Sweet, one of my favorite bands. Even if this video is a kind of commercial.. it doesn't matter.. Greetings from Paris, France!
Thanks Andy .you keped the SWEET alive for me.. I've been a fan since 1970, lm now 52. So sorry we lost Mick. But we will all meet in the next life .
After show in Musikladen 1974 Sweet may be easy can Heavy band, absolutely not GLAM! Heavy is THAT! Andy does great guitar work and interesting to hear difference in guitar sound in " Turn it down" - Fender and Gibson.GIBSON in Andy's hands is wonderfull guitar!

Hi Andy, Of course I LOVE The Sweet!!! But I only wish that I could have known Steve Priest, because I think it would be awesome being friends with him. You were blessed to work with him, and I can imagine how you must miss him?! 🤓
I stopped following Sweet when the 'Cut Above The Rest' album came out and I realized Brian Connolly was no longer in the band. Brian's lead vocal and Front Man charisma, was a big part of the band's charm. R.I.P. Brian and Mick.
Si, ya no es lo mismo. Brian forever !!!!
He is a real artist, and sometimes they try to shock, to me he wants to have us reacted to the facts that he has white hair style like Brian, maybe he does it for another reason, only he know, anyway Andy will always be 200% better than most musicians nowadays...he is one of the reasons lots of guitarist wanted to play guitar in a band
Wow, what possessed Andy Scott to appear on camera in that godawful wig? He looks like a Morlock from The Time Machine! 😉 I became, after a few years of resisting a big fan of Sweet and loved their late 70s material. It was so sad to see Brian Connolly disintegrate the way he did. I'm sad that I never got to see them in their prime, as I think they were a cracking live outfit. Sadder still is that one of them is apparently still trading in on past glories in such an obvious way. For me, as with a lot of these "revivals" of bands with most of their original members missing, I'd not waste my time and money going to see them now!
Went to see them a coupla years ago and man it was a great show! met Andy afterwards and he was very nice and obliging for photos etc even though he was obviously knackered. I'd love to see the originals play but failing that this show was bloody great!.
@@veronicamagallanez9501 he says not, but to be fair, it does look like one. As your hair goes white it loses its shine and thickness, that is very shiny thick hair for an old feller! Sorry, Andy. :)
@ Wild Heart: I totally agree with you. Andy’s band is not nor will ever be Sweet and I’m irritated that he calls them that. I loved Steve Priest, but he did the same thing. Speaking of Steve, it was even sadder to see him in his latter days. Andy was my least favorite band member. He always came across as arrogant to me. He’s now the only one left.
This is awesome, I've been a fan since I was a youngster, buying 45's like Ballroom Blitz and Fox On The Run, which led me too Desolation Boulevard, and a friend of mine had the elusive (in North America anyway) Strung Up, and on and on. I love the band as much today as ever. I only just found out about Brian and Mick's passing (I've been out of the loop), but I cannot wait to get this dvd!!! All the best from Montreal! Thanks for the inspiration early on in my musical journey. One of the UK's best bands ever!!!!
I stopped listening to the band after Give Us A Wink, and stopped paying attention altogether when I discovered punk/hardcore in the early 80's, so by the time the 90's/early 2000's rolled around, well, during that period, I wasn't paying much attention to anything, but that's a whole other story (story of the cave I guess).
The Sweet were a much better band than many people believed. A real energy and innovative style at the time, and. a lot of fun.
Let Sweet live in our heads the way it was!!! The new incarnation doesn't do the original justice.

HAHAHA!
great story, thanks for sharing!
There's growing old and there's growing up.
This 62 year old says sweets A sides were great fun. Their B sides were bloody brilliant! 😀
Ive yet to hear them all
Lady GaGa wants her wig back.
thomas skeffington She’ll be fighting Suzanne Somers for it! Lol!
This is not a kiddies channel....Leave the Rock to people who can appreciate it. Go watch Justin bieber or something lol......
That's actually quite funny.
Yeah! The Musikladen concert!
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU MR. ANDY SCOTT!!!! (ALWAYS & FOREVER)! THANK YOU FOR YOURS & SWEET MUSIC!!!! I HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT/SAFE BIRTHDAY!!!!
The very first 45 I ever bought was Teenage Rampage... bought everything after (and before). The Sweet brought me through my youth... Thanks
Love, Love this CD, and DVD set!. "The Sweet your the best!!!!". I can't get enough of your music :)
ABSOLUTELY !
Countless others blitz oxygen willie action wig wam BLOCK mice 16 healer .......
But I did all the talking
She did all the walking
:) Thanks Andy!
still big in oz, long live the sun surf and The Sweet.
we Want Sweet, We Want Sweet....
NOW I understand Spinal Tap!
saw them last week at the Hob Nob festival in Almelo. very enjoyable show, although i still wish they'd play all of Love Is Like Oxygen. great sounding band keeping the music alive. i'd go again.
now I finally know who the character Nigel Tufnel was mainly based on.. I wonder if his amp went to 11. Seriously though, I would love to have seen Sweet in their hayday, fuckin awesome band!
Action is an excellent compilation..It's missing a few of the mid era heavy rockers, but provides an excellent complete career retrospective.
I bought 2 pcs Sweet lp records in 1977,still in good condition.
Excelentes compositores....muy buenas rolas...que aun perduran . . .en el tiempo...
The Lonely Rocker loves The Sweet!
RIP Brain and Andy.... this is SUPER footage....
Andy is still alive 😳
The final sweet squeeze of fan dollars. Lol Those glam years must of been sweet. Before my time but very fun to discover. Mick Tucker’s drumming and Brian’s vocals were Sweet.
RIP Steve.
Also RIP Mick and Brian.
Your music will endure.
I hope he's joking with that Syrup!!
Фанни Адамс Свит - лучший из лучших роковых произведений!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only available in region 2...USA loved Sweet, too! I have all the LPs and CDs and I saw them in concert, more than once, and met them. Wrong to leave us out!
+missjoshemmett Yeah, whats up with that?
+lisalu910 Multi-region players just went down in price. I will be able to play Region 2s soon. But it is wrong not to offer in All Region! I have lots of those and they play fine in my DVD. (That is not Region 0.)
You can play it with your normal DVD or Blueray-player. No Problem. This during the fact your Tv and/ or player wil auto select.
I love Sweet, especially early hits, but to comment 1.50 "Glam rock boom at the time that the band dominated like no other", I think Bolan, Bowie, and Slade fans, may argue the point. Good luck with the issue of Greatest Hits!
🤘🤘🤘 o melhor grupo dos anos 70. Junto com Nazareth
Thank you very much for this documentary talking about the Sweet, one of my favorite bands. Even if this video is a kind of commercial.. it doesn't matter..
Greetings from Paris, France!
One of my best rock band on the '70 :o)
Thanks Andy .you keped the SWEET alive for me.. I've been a fan since 1970, lm now 52. So sorry we lost Mick. But we will all meet in the next life . I did name my son mick.( Mickalen"0" ) back in 2000 .I will love to cheek out the new album. Thankx again Andy. Hope to see you Down under Gold coast . Australia .
Be good if we could meet Brian and Mick in next life
respect for the past and ty for all the great music...
lose the wig... please... we all had our time... yeah...
music can and always be every day.
As far as I know they were/are classified as a bubble-gum group, not glam. And that's a pity.... becos they deserved so much more than that.
we loved sweet in the 1970s especialy steve priest in blockbuster he was so funny. great memories. todays music is rubbish.
I love these guys what a great band
I loved the sweet love their music one of the most underrated bands rest In peace Brian and Mick and I was in love with Andy thought he was gorgeous which he was
Thanks Andy. It's all in good fun!!
I just saw sweet a month ago. What a show. Holy shit Sweet !!!!!!
Hi Andy,
Of course I LOVE The Sweet!!!
But I only wish that I could have known Steve Priest, because I think it would be awesome being friends with him.
You were blessed to work with him, and I can imagine how you must miss him?! 🤓
This Bank kicked ass.totsllu original, great lyrics, great antics... Fox on the run... Dam,they fn KILLED it.,!!
Love, love, love it ! I´m really looking forward to this DVD-Set. At last, after years of waiting...thanks Andy and good luck to you !
They were my band ♥
Can someone buy Andy a mirror?
He he
NoiseAnnoys you wish he had friends.
Looks like a wig
@@sega62s Looks like a clown.
Wow, what possessed Andy Scott to appear on camera in that godawful wig?
He looks like a Morlock from The Time Machine! 😉
I became, after a few years of resisting a big fan of Sweet and loved their late 70s material.
Its not a wig..😠
@@veronicamagallanez9501 he says not, but to be fair, it does look like one. As your hair goes white it loses its shine and thickness, that is very shiny thick hair for an old feller! Sorry, Andy. :)
@ Wild Heart: I totally agree with you. Andy’s band is not nor will ever be Sweet and I’m irritated that he calls them that. I loved Steve Priest, but he did the same thing. Speaking of Steve, it was even sadder to see him in his latter days. Andy was my least favorite band member. He always came across as arrogant to me. He’s now the only one left.
Ohja, das waren die tollen supi 70'er ... :)
The Sweet haben meine Kinder - und Jugendzeit geprägt ... :)
Kommt eben nie wieder :(
Thanks Andy ... :)
I saw these at Wycombe Swan 4 years ago they were out of this World I wrote to the Theatre and Ken Bruce and told them so see you soon
Desolation Boulevard is a great album.
Mastermind Andy Scott!
