I lost it with the Ari scene screaming “Maman!” in the back of the car. And him at the end. 😭

I just finished this book, and I feel WASHED OUT! Could barely finish the last three pages because of all the tears, had to text my friend and get some moral support 💔😂 I totally agree with all of your statements, especially its emotional power. Just wow.

Oh my gosh, this was my favorite book of all time. This book made me want to read again after a book slump. I love the sister's relationship, I loved how beautifully the story was written, I loved that I was emotionally invested, I loved that I cried, I loved that I wanted to read it again, I loved the book hangover I LOVED EVERYTHING! Nothing has compared to this book, however. LOVE IT! 6 out of 5 stars - if that's possible.

I loved The Nightengale. It is one of my all time favourite books. I couldn't put it down and I just wanted time to stop so that I didn't have to go to work or bed and I could just read it. I finished reading it on my lunch hour and I wanted to announce it to everyone that I finished reading the best book in the world because it left such an impact one me. I remember thinking that I had to talk to someone about this book. I find that no one does a better job creating characters than Kristan Hannah. I recommend Summer Island, Between Sisters and my favourite The Things We Do For Love. They are all contemporaries that explore family relationships. If you want a historical, then read Winter Garden. It is set in Russia during WWII. Another amazing read. Lucky you, that you have so many Kristin Hannah books to read.

I felt exactly the same. My sister in-law had just finished it a few weeks before I started it, so when I finished the book we got to talk for hours on our favorite parts and how much we loved this book. The movie will be coming out Jan 25th 2019. I can not wait! I also loved her book The last alone. I thought The last alone was my favorite book of hers until I read The Nightingale. I can not hype this book enough.

Just finished reading. This book was the literal definition of perfection. The most beautiful novel I've ever read. No words to describe what I'm feeling right now. I feel like I've discovered something about life, everything else seems so distant and simple now.

I absolutely love Kristin Hannah. I love the Nightingale because it was so beautiful and imaginative. I was so excited and got right when it came out. I absolutely loved the writing and the detail of the war as well the romantic relationships between the characters and the physical distance between the sisters didn’t impart on their emotional distance which was a story on its own. It was so inspirational.

This was the most beautiful book I have ever read. My sister got me to read this. She felt she was Vianne and I was Isabelle. I was surprised how similar my sister and I were to these women. I deeply connected with Isabelles character being an activist myself. I cried so much, especially the end. I would also recommend this be read in schools.

I read this a few months ago and I have no idea why I waited so long to read it. Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and I've read 2 other Kristin Hannah books and loved them (Winter Garden and Firefly Lane). And yes, when I finally read it, I LOVED it - 5 stars - one of my all time favorites. Kristin Hannah writes amazing characters and family relationships. I've got several of her other books and I'm looking forward to reading them as well as The Great Alone. I know you're not a big fan of historical fiction so I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I loved this book, it was so brilliant the two different stories of Vianne and Isabelle and how they each in their own way impacted everyone around them. My daughter is studying World War II in school just now and they focus a lot on dates and political policies and factual things, I feel there needs to be a bit more of sharing stories like Vianne and Isabelle to help bring it to life for them. Only now I'm older and have read more novels about the stories of people who lived through it has it added that real perspective and emotion for me.

I seldom get impacted when finishing a book. I guess the way it ends deserves the credit that makes the whole story penetrates and develops within my soul a little longer than usual. Plus, all other page turners have never had that effect and boom! I couldn't put it down and finished it quickly. I usually jotted great lines are written beautifully and I failed to locate them as most of them are so magically written and relatable

It tells me that the woman in the attic at the beginning is one of the 2 girls. Then it parenthesis it tell you which girl it is. Did this just ruin the book for me?

I finished this a week ago, and now, I'm struggle to start another book. As nothing is going to be as amazing as this book. Until you read this book you just can't imaging the impact it will have on you. A few times, while reading this book I had to put it down, as emotionally I needed a break. This book will break your heart, it will make you question what you would do it this situation. This quotes says it all, Don’t think about who they are. Think about who you are and what sacrifices you can live with and what will break you.” “You’re not alone, and you’re not the one in charge,” Mother said gently. “Ask for help when you need it, and give help when you can. I think that is how we serve God-and each other and ourselves-in times as dark as these.” This is definitely going to be an all time favourite.

I relatively enjoyed this book and read it in like two days, however I have some problems mainly with the really cheesy preachy and infodumpy pros. And also the major insta love between Isabelle and Gaetan ( and he was built up to be mysterious and dangerous and nothing was really done with that and really wish there was ). And the emotions were written to be super over the top. And Vianne being raped felt like such a cheap way to make the Natzi dude evil

I just read like two sentences from the back cover and I immediately jumped into the book. I read the almost 600 pages like in two seatings because I could not stop.

The book is amazing and the end made me so emotional I thought the old woman in the end was Isabelle with his son but then vianne talked about her sisters life on the stage and I was a crying mess when gaëton talked with vianne about her daughter Isabelle gosh this book is my favourite

I'm reading this book right now... It haven't made cry yet though, however I do believe it's a far better novel than Firefly Lane (that was the first novel I read from Kristin Hannah). At this point of the reading I'm really hating Vianne 🙄 and still don't know how I feel about Isabelle (but I think she has more courage than Vianne).

The Nightingale marked a change in Kristin Hannah's choice of topic. Previous books are contemporary, relationship driven and though good did not have the emotional impact of the Nightingale, at least not for me. It may well be the peak of her writing career. I plan to read her new book at some point but don't expect it to have the same strength or resonance. I think any book dealing with the second world war, if written well, will produce these types of feelings. Tatiana de Rosnay wrote a book called Sarah's Key and that takes place in Paris during the second world war. It is not a book you may want to read as a mother but it too tells a gut wrenching story that is sadly more real then fiction and heartbreaking to read. I too wonder how we would fare today if (god forbid) war happened and this time directly affected us here in North America. Could we survive such horror? And at what price?

Yes I agree. it's horrible to think about. so insanely scary.

Sounds so so good!! I must read it now! What would you say the age/ maturity rating of this book would be? Also, I just recently finished reading another historical fiction book called Between Shades of Grey by Ruta Sepetys which I found was very very good. I would highly recommend!! I found myself sobbing at the end of it, purely by the fact the story was based off real events and the extremities people went through during the tragic times of WW2. This book, along with all historical fiction books really puts things in perspective and shows us the value of our lives, and that is what I really like about historical fiction. Thanks again for this review, and sorry for this super long comment hahaha :) :) :) Can't wait to read The Nightingale!!

"The Nightingale" is the greatest novel of the twenty-first century. Kristin Hannah is a genius.
