- The larger portion of this house with the second story porch was added onto the existing structure in the 1870-1880’s. While the original home was constructed in the mid 1800’s, which is why you see a window in the house leading into another room of the house. Also in that portion of the house is a larger fireplace most likely used for cooking back in the day. This stunning old farm house sits in Tennessee along the blue ridge mountains. So many cool details about this old place like having two main staircases in the house as well as custom windows in almost every room with beautiful trim. Sits across from a small pond/ swamp area and you can hear the frogs peeping away in the video. Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoy!

i always imagine a scene from a southern horror movie instead of something peaceful like people sipping iced tea..I am from Germany where there's a house every couple of meters and I wonder how far the neighbors are or the main road..it's hard to imagine something beautiful like this is rotting away and nobody cares

Those tiny frogs are known as spring peepers around here. I'm guessing 140 years ago, on a sultry Tennessee evening people sat on one of the three porches trying to cool off, and listened to the peepers too. It must have been such a peaceful setting back then, when the road was a dirt lane and an occasional person passed by. Thanks Kappy, keep bringing these amazing places to life!
We call them Spring Peepers in Ohio, too. I know it’s really Spring when I can hear those tiny love-sick male froggies.

It makes me sick that this absolutely beautiful house is just left to rot away. They don’t build houses like this anymore and history is being lost. I can only imagine how grand this house was when it was built.

NOT a cookie-cutter house plan! From back in the days when a man was allowed/free to build 'his castle' as he wanted/as necessity designated. We should go back to those times. Beautiful and inspired, even as it's falling into ruins.
These grand old ladies could tell stories of their glory days. Love these beauties. Keep up the good work finding them before they all vanish.
My favorite so far. Stunning was a good choice of words and everything was still in pretty incredible condition… even the fuzzy purple toilet seat cover.😂
I really appreciate the respect on how you approach these houses, the past. It' so sad to see history collapsing - gone with the wind. I wish those who claim they are good enouph to govern people had half of your sensitivity. In my country, sadly, the same happens. Everything is beeing torn down for the sake of money. And hardly anyone cares.

Bay windows, transom windows over the doors, good sized rooms that are not overwhelmingly large. I’m wondering if that one part wasn’t an addition since there was that window in the hallway. It would be a great house to restore and live in.
The part he first entered is Greek Revival. You're correct that part of it is a later addition, or additions.
I was going to say the same thing! I think the house in this video is really two houses with the part having a one-story porch being the original.

Im from the uk and i must say you American,s have such beautiful old houses. This house i could move in tomorrow and do the renovations. We all need to find property out in the country at the moment the way things are going.

You find some pretty amazing old houses to film in your video. along the Southern states. so sad to see them Abandoned and in such derelict condition. I wish i could afford one, at a very low price like $5,000.00. As a retired Veteran, I would love to spend my retirement time fixing one up a little at a time. I would appreciate old homes like that. The only way I could ever get a house like that is if, I was to squat in one, and hope I didn't get run off.

Yes, Kappy this house seems pretty solid. However, it is a point where the roof is just
starting to leak. Once moisture gets in it will not take long for rot and mildew to set in.

would pay for a young couple to invest in this one...Only if I were young again...LOL

Kitchens in the back were very common back then, Kappy. The reason is that they got so hot while the lady of the house cooked during the day. If you can ever, ever find an abandoned plantation home, you will likely find a summer kitchen detached from the main house and the winter kitchen inside! I know a little about the 18th century homes in Tennessee and love to share. 🥰

This house is amazing! I really like the big rooms with the bay windows and though they were broken out, it's obvious that the windows flanking the front door were very pretty. The craftsmanship in the built-in cabinets is very nice, too.
I'm with Ruby on the wallpaper. That in what must have been the dining room is just gorgeous, with the mockingbird on it. Tennessee's state bird, how appropriate!
I think the house was enlarged at some point, with the wing to the right of the front door being added later. That would account for the window looking into the front porch and the one looking into the front staircase from the dining room. That could also account for the odd layout of the house. The rooms are so huge. Clearly, they weren't overly concerned with heating and cooling!
Perhaps a tree fell on the back of the house. Either that or someone drove a truck through the back wall and took out the vertical supports. That's about all that could or would cause that kind of damage to the back wall. I really would have liked to see the house before that catastrophe occurred.
Wow! More beautiful wallpaper? Cool! Beautiful mantelpiece and more pretty wallpaper. This house is a stunner and so beautiful. It has a feeling of peace and genteel serenity about it, as if it knows it's unique and is proud of that fact.
Another lovely mantelpiece! I'm surprised nobody's ravaged this home. Happy, but surprised. Plaid wallpaper!? That's certainly different.
I love the deep front porch! Those spring peepers are wonderful. I used to live where we heard them every year and waited for the sound of their voices heralding the end of winter. The back porch is almost, if not more, beautiful than the front.

Oh, by the way, Kappy, I saw a program on PBS called "Reel South" today and thought of you. It was about a lady in Hot Springs, Arkansas who has a pet black vulture named Adonis. She had raised him from a young bird because he had an injury that cost him a wing, rendering him flughtless. He was such a cool bird, quite intelligent and tame. I started thinking that maybe, just maybe, we could find a baby vulture for you!

Excellent tour as always. Your tours are the best! Just a point of interest. Not every second staircase is a servants staircase. Second staircases are very common in older homes and are simply there for convenience. I had the good fortune of being raised in two old homes, one rented and one we owned and lived in for 25 happy years. Both had back staircases. You’re only going to find servants staircases in homes where people had the need and/or money for servants. Spectacular photography always! Thank you so much. It’s wonderful to listen to someone who has such a love and appreciation for old architecture and antiques and also, beautiful properties!

I still find it hard to believe that the owners of these places dont try to salvage the best parts of them. Around my neck of the woods people buy that kind of stuff to rehab other properties. You have been finding some pretty old places lately. I live here in Tn and it is beautiful here. We do have a lot of old houses that are rotting away, so sad I hate to see these places falling in. This place is unique for sure makes me thing that it was buit for two families or added to for like a son or daughter especially if they had a big farm. Love the sound of the frogs. Be careful I always worry about you explorers falling through a rotten floor or coming up on some crazies. Lol had I heard that I am so easily scared, I probably would have ran out right then, you sure are brave!

That one room had two different black floral patterns. The plaid, the dainty birds, all fun to see. I don't know what you do when you're not making your excellent videos but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if you became a realtor and were a big success what with your appreciation of and knowledge of houses. That or you could become an architectural historian---which, really, you already are!
That very last house you showed looks like it goes way back in American history. Sad to see it in such condition, but even well-built houses wear out and it becomes uneconomical to keep it going.
I love the nature scenes in your videos, Kappy. If you ever make a video with just those and no houses at all it would be a pleasure to watch and listen to.

If you were on the porch in a hammock the frogs would put you to sleep. Very nice peaceful sound. This looks absolutely beautiful inside. It could be a good restoration project for someone to tackle.
