- This Federal style antebellum house was built by the hands of slaves in 1830. It was first owned by plantation owners David Stephenson and Sarah McCullers Stephenson. David lived in the house until his death in 1867. He was 92 years old. The plantation produced corn, cotton, sweet potatoes, wheat, and oats. In addition, the family raised livestock. The house is in severe disrepair and is open to the elements through open windows and doors as well as a sizable hole in the roof, spelling certain doom for the future of the structure. There are signs of occupation by the homeless. The property is currently owned by the family in the name of Bennett Land NC LLC. After 19 years of neglect, mother nature is well on her way to reclaiming the property.

Horrible to let a mansion once grand beauty now to rot away like this....
This is a piece of history. It's a shame that fell in bad shape, no body seems to care about old history.
I absolutely agree.
Makes no sense to me that this once beautiful home was left to ruin like it is! Part of family history as well as American history…it should have been kept up and descendants should live in the home! To me it is sacrilege!
Yes it needs to be preserved. It has great potential and look at the framework it better than most new homes. Nature isn't it only problem it's mainly people who have no care for someone else's property in this case the old house. This old house still has alot to offer and needs to be preserved and kept as near to it's original layout, interior and exterior architecture as possible. It has nice size rooms too. Chimneys need help to strengthen and old bricks and mortar added underneath them before they collapse. Hopefully someone will save and restore it!
It needed to be preserved, this is a piece of Americcan history. That's a lot if deterioration in 19 years
Sad
WHY CANT OLD BUILDINGS BE RESTORED THERES SO MUCH HOMELESSNESS GOING ON THESE BIG OLD HOUSES COULD BE MADE INTO FLATS
