  • Today we are honored to have Seth Morrison of the band Skillet on the show. Seth and his wife had a baby a few months ago, and he talks about fatherhood, raising godly children, how he came to be in Skillet, and trusting God. This was a fun conversation between friends. Hope you like it!

You guys, I’ve been so very heart broken over all the Christian artists who have either deconstructed or even just slid into and caved into progressivism.. so many “heroes” of mine since Music has always been such a huge part of my life.. You guys have been a light and a source of truth. And quite honestly one of the very few among Christian artists who have continued to stay actually faithful to the Truth, the Word, and the Gospel-and the life as a Christ follower. Thank you.

I was attending a large church of about 3000 attendees. I was heavily volunteering and kept applying for the pastor positions that opened. They wouldn't even give me an interview inspite of my Seminary training and volunteering and knowing several people on staff. Then a friend connected me with a church of 30, which is also an hour away from me. I decided to trust God and apply. I've been going there and preaching once a month, now leading their Wednesday night Bible study. They haven't hired me yet, but I believe they will soon. God closes some doors, but He opens others.

I’ve experienced so much more life in smaller churches. I truly believe the Lord will bless you there! Keep serving Him 🙏🏻🙌🏻

@@laurenkwarren thank you! I did grow up in smaller churches, so it does feel more comfortable to me.

This hit me hard. I’ve been feeling called to music since I was a young teen. I’ve had my “successes” and failures but now that I’m in my 30s and dedicating myself to serving in the right heart posture it truly is fulfilling. (Even with a day job!).

Seth's story has always been a huge inspiration to me. Where he was before Skillet is a lot like where I am now. I am very appreciative of today's episode because it has reminded me to consistently be God focused no matter if my dreams are going to happen!

This is a reminder to trust The Lord. I lost my job last March, turn 30 in April, and I resonated what John and Seth said. I'll see what God is going to do this month.

REALLY encouraging. Thank you so much guys! Proverbs 3:5-6 has always been my favorite Bible verse but it hits enormously different when you walk through trials and wildernesses. That’s when you really learn how to trust God on a deeper level. I think a lot of times the difficult circumstances we’re asking God to change and He doesn’t means the circumstance is meant to change you, and draw you closer to Him. I so appreciate the heart of Skillet that it’s not about your talent or fame, it’s about representing Christ and reaching souls with the gospel! I thank God for you and hope to see more artists walk the same narrow road of ministry! And I 100% with being planted in a church with accountability. We all need it! Faith with a firm foundation cannot be broken.

So many deep thoughts! As a musician, who is playing small concerts for 9 years and my band isn't populat at all, I love that thought, that we only have to trust Lord, because He knows better.
    Thank you!

Ty both for this story, was really cool about how Seth came to be a part of the band and even more important me is how John was more concerned about Seth's relationship and his heart with Christ........that just blesses me even more, cause Skillet has over the past several years become my all time favorite Christian Rock Band, I love Jesus and love to Rock out Hard for Him and love that Skillet does that too. I love Cooper stuff podcast.............keep going John for Christ!!...........I also wanted to say what you said John and how Seth took joining the band on faith story about the 23 minute mark really spoke to me. I am Christian, a preacher, have been a youth pastor, and long story short have had some serious health issues (my thorn) that has not allowed me to do much of anything physically anymore and I started doing content creation on UA-cam, twitch, etc about 4 1/2 years ago and finding it very hard and discouraging and was hopeing to do this for Jesus since cant do a lot anymore, and hopeing this is a way that God can provide for my needs, but I am wrestling with this is God's will or it is just a dream of mine, and obviously I dont want to do this if it is not what God wants...........I want His will above anything else and just want to say what you said John, encouraged me and giving more food for thought and a direction for prayer...............ty, stay strong for Jesus and God bless from this little geeky penguin for JC.✞

The biggest issue that I’ve struggled with my whole life in my walk is finding a local church. My parents really never did the traditional Sunday church stuff, but growing up I was in private school so was constantly exposed to churches connected to them. I have tried to find a local church but just haven’t found a good one yet. Will of course continue to try but I have learned to appreciate my independent Bible studies thankfully. Also great episode today cooper, love getting to know Seth a bit more!

No, start before they are young. Start when hey are new born. Worked with me to the point that i may never have fame/reputation in or out of the church, children, but yet my love for Jesus is greater. God takes care of me, and I know, that I may never have people close in my life, until the day I die on my feet working, and yet I have joy. And I will have joy for he fear of my life. Start put when they are new born. Get hem used to hearing the Word. Don't wait until, "oh they need to be able to understand it". Nobody truly understands everything. If you can punish bad behavior, then you can read them the Word. Give them God's best instead of what you want them to have, and pray without ceasing that the children would become what God's wants them to be and not what you want them to.
And with cell phones... Never let a child possess a smart phone, tether, a flip phone. If us adults can't use them properly, then a child should not be given access to one.

My problem with getting into a local church is that the more I study the Bible, the less I find any that are in line with it. For example, pre-trib vs. post-trib. The Bible is extremely clear here, and so it is astounding how so many teach it differently. Many say this is not a big deal, but the Bible issues warning after warning about it and says there will be a great falling away of those who once believed. Why? Because they believed one thing the church told them, then another will happen. The truth matters. I highly recommend the FAI Studios UA-cam series entitled "The Rapture and the Endurance of the Saints", which is up to episode 16 now. Excellent deep dive into this topic and why it absolutely matters. It's a BASIC Biblical tenet and there was no question about it from the 1st century until the 1830s, but no one does their own research and unquestioningly just repeats what others say. Someone who reads their Bible ought to immediately say, "wait a minute, that ain't right..."

I really wonder if some people who say they are called by God to do something are really just confusing their own want to do it. The Bible says anyone who is truly a Christian has been called by God to be one. In my experience that call came in the form of fear and hope which lead to faith. The feeling of "being called" never entered into the equation.

John, with all due respect, how can you see everything that is going on in the world and not recognize that we are in the end times? It seems so blatantly obvious that people who don't even say they believe are picking up on this.
