I keep turning in for the intro bass jams. Brilliant guys, just brilliant.
Duel Bass jams are up my alley without a doubt! Both of them have exquisite tones indeed, and I would love to try one now! Awesome work!
BOTH 0:01 to 2:02 ............ MEX 8:06 to 9:18 ............ USA 10:28 to 11:23 ........... BOTH 11:35 to 12:50 .........
USA 13:11 to 13:24 ........ BOTH 15:35 to end
I bought a Squier Bronco recently (which is basically Squier Mustang bass) and I am amazed by the quality and the playability for the price!
As a 20+ years guitarist I can say that these short-scale Mustangs fit my needs for a bass perfectly!
If your boss and his friend did this, it's gonna be all distorted.
First time seeing the guy on the left. Great guy. Does the job very well. Bring him in more!
Lees been on all about the bass for months. killer bassist!
@@tom_dilley years, maybe xD
Ran into Lee at the shop the other day, thanks so much for helping me!
Lee breaking out into I Wish at 11:40. Beautiful😂
Thats so true about slides idk how many times ill be playing a song before the turnaround and think a slide would sound great here and i just go with it
Pete's sense of humor makes my day alot better everytime i watch videos including him xD
first of all compliments for the Players...i've bought yesterday an American Mustang GP...and i'm waiting for the new kid... i've some vintage basses...hoping for a good stuff...tnks..Ric
Darn you guys tempting guitarists with basses!
if you got the money, buy a mustang bass and a cheap fender rumble, for kicks. it will bring you hours and hours of enjoyment.
@@zx45zx You are so right. Hours of enjoyment !!! I bought a Sterling SS-4 and a Rumble 100. Being on Covid lockdown, I actually got pretty-good at playing the bass.
@@zx45zx :) Thanks!
Would love a comparison of the Mexican pj, American pj, JMJ signature, and Vintera range mustang
They should wait a few months and do all five of the Mustangs. The Squire Classic Vibe series now includes: 50s P-bass (new), 60s P-bass, 70s P-bass (new), 60s Jazz, 70s Jazz, Jaguar 34" scale (new), Classic Vibe Bass VI and finally, the Mustang 60s bass (new). The ones that I listed as new, are currently only available for pre-order. They will be released near the end of this year. Now for t hff 3 juicy details
The Classic Vibe 60s Mustang includes: a single split coil, vintage voiced Mustang pickup, maple neck with Indian Laurel wood fretboard, NATO wood string through body, Mustang style oversized bridge, 1.5 inch wide nut, 9.5 inch neck radius. The only thing it doesn't have, is lollipop style tuners otherwise, it looks a lot like a real vintage Mustang bass. It will be available in two colors, Surf Green with white pickguard and Olympic White with tortoise pickguard. The price is $350. This Squire Classic Vibe series is one of the best things that ever happened to the Squire brand. These Squires look as good as the Vinturas for about 1/3 of the price. That Surf Green Mustang is a damn time machine.
Would be amazing, Mustangs deserve the love
That little riff at 11:17 sent shivers down my spine
Haha, he is so good
Great job on Mustang Sally! That was fun! !
Fantastic demo loved it.
Enjoyed your fun video. I had the Mexican one and really liked playing it for three months. I decided to upgrade to the American version because of the body through stringing and heavier bridge. The sustain is better with this bass and I find the tone is much better than the Mexican one I had. I’m very happy with the American bass, it’s definitely a keeper.
The Squier newish Classic Vibe Mustang 60s Bass comes with through body stringing but now Jazz pick up
What about the neck and the weight? I also want to upgrade because of the chunky neck and heavy weight of the Mexican mustang, so I was hoping the american had a slimmer neck and lighter weight
great jam at the end - thank you!
i love my fender jmj mustang...sits in the mix live or studio as good as my 65 precision, and really has that something special, + its easy on my back and hands..
I wish they would reissue the American series in the competition colours. Particularly in competition orange with the racing strip.
This and a Hofner 500/1 are my 2 dream basses
Aw heck yeah, my guy, excellent taste! Gotta ask - Hofner 500/1 and Mustang - are you a fan of Chris Murphy of Sloan by any chance? :D
i have a mex with flat wounds and a bit of sponge down at the bridge. really thuddy for hip hop and soul styles and i played it in a jazz group too. dunno why people complain about mim fenders, i have a mex telecaster ive been playing daily for 15 years and its never failed me
Quality control of MIMs is less tight. This means you were lucky to have had good MIM instruments. Some people weren't as lucky and have their complaints.
its odd seeing lee sitting at the left 😂
You didn't mention the Mustang bass pickup in the American Mustang. Does it feel different from the P-bass pickup in the Mexican beast? Pluses? Minuses?
Nice to see Lee is still with us. Even if it is a tad annoying that I'll never be the player he is! :)
I really want to see that too. I own a mim mustang hot rodded out a bit with quarter pounders and a high mass bridge and a pink active flea bass, really like them both but don’t know much about basses as I’ve only been playing 4 months.
2020 has been in shambles because guitar players started playing bass.
But they can’t do it as well. You can always tell a authentic bassist.
Are you kidding? Lee is a fantastic bass player
@@eveythingthatsadam that’s a different Lee. Tricky!
Some seem to think a bass is a lead instrument.
@@donwilson3880
John Entwistle did.👌
I went from a silvertone p-bass to a mim beautiful milk chocolate,, black pickguard mustang in the 70s ,,WISH I STILL HAD IT ,,, thanks for a GREAT VIDEO GUYS ,,from Arkansas USA 🎸🤠
Hi Lee
Awesome bass playing.
Slightly off topic question. What are those seats you use in these sessions? I need to replace mine soon.
Thanks
LB
Could you guys look at Duff Mckagan's new deluxe precision signature bass???
So I’m about to get an AP Mustang bass. They vary in weight (maybe because they are hand made). Does anyone know if the variance in weight is due to the instrument being a slightly different shape, size and neck thickness? Or is it because the wood might vary in density?
I like how you parodied John Mayer's Gravity with Clarity when there's a John Mayer song named Clarity
Great fun guys... Yeah, the US bass was definitely more of the winner for the tone, IMO.... But the more important bit: it was dead obvious within 15 seconds that Pete's a guitarist... His whole approach to playing bass screamed "GUITAR!".
Wish I could buy that technique at my local guitar centre
Please review the flea active jazz bass~
I just ordered mine in Olympic White. I’m so excited.
I'm so jelly but I want the surf green. :)
Did you get it by now?? Can u please tell me how much weight is it??
@@Thantas Yes and I love it!! My only complaint is the neck is a little heavy so if you aren’t careful it will nose dive and fall
@@evelyndoyle4830 can u please measure the weight in kilos?? Or pounds please!!!?
@@Thantas I read online it’s only 7.3 pounds not sure what that is in kilo bc i’m American

Buying the aubergine one coz it's what Todd Ingram uses in the Scott Pilgrim movie
They shouldn't call that "aubergine." It's way too red and not purple enough
I agree. It looks like a darker burgandy mist, it's nothing like aubergine.
What Sound Like vid are they on about there?
Lees playing is great!
Always love the Anderton's bass reviews. Bud'ey guys... a bit too much scratch'n faat'in about, rwight?
The white one looks the business. Nice playing lads.
Someone commented that the pau ferro fretboard was slightly dry. Is this true?
Do one on the JMJ signature mustang!
Definitely. Do an ABC with the JMJ vs the PJ
Good review folks! I bought an American Performer Mustang about a year ago to play a lighter bass than the Guild I played back in the 80s. I liked the action, sound and weight better than American player basses. You guys should record some two bass songs!
What about the neck? Thin or chunky?
my man kilt the solo at 16:25 🔥
You heard it from Pete:
Short scale basses are "much more guitarery."
Are all Mustang basses short-scale?
2 bass jams are awesome
Idle question. Have you chaps ever played Spinal Tap's three-bass classic Big Bottom in a jam here?
methinks these two dandies are moar 'Gainy Glutes', 'Jr. Biggins' or some-such.
I heard the prices they quoted and had to check the year this was made. Things have gone way up!😢
That USA bass sounds really special. Yeah, I know that most of it's in the fingers of the player, but that bass sounds super-sweet.
I kinda like the color of pao ferra necks.I don't get why people on the internet hate them so much. on the other hand I don't like the look of roasted maple necks.
Honestly cant tell the difference in tone from rosewood.
Proteus If’d you said you could, I’d have called bullshit!
16:30-16:35 wicked runs!
10:06 subtle
I wish they made an american made mustang PJ bass. The Precision pickups sound better than the mustang pickups imo + I prefer the 1 volume knob/3 way switch.. Love my mexican PJ bass, wish I could own a better finished american version.
i love this video and i play guitar

Holy god Lee is so great..
You didn't point out the different neck pickups. The US mustang has the "original" shape/size....I don't know re the windings though. MM
You could put a squash in Pete's hands and he could make it sound good. He sounds good in every video.
the Mexican one has got more thump to my ears :)
It feels that gap much better. Performer sounds good on it's own because the J pickup is much stronger.
Pete plays bass like a guitar. Well thought to include him
17:49 this reminds me of the Fat Albert show.
Pete walking that bass :)
This is a battle of straight play volume and tone with a 3 way, and 2 master volumes with a tone nob versions of basically the same bass. The biggest thing is Mexico has a Precision neck split pickup, but the American Performer has a Mustang version neck, and a pull knob tone for the split coil mixing of the two, not sure its in this video. Happens a lot, Fender is crap at telling vendors about push/pull switches/knobs.
Thanks!
oh these guys with the chit chat
Darn it, I was all set on the Mexican made Fender and now that I heard it vs the American one... I might have to save some money lol
bloke on the left GOOD!
This really made me want to go crazy on my bass, then I looked at the huge blister on my thumb and thought "Guess I'll have to wait for a bit!" It's only a matter of time!! Bass, I will find you and I will play the s*** out of you hahaha
I have the MX made Mustang Bass PJ. Plays well, sounds good and stays in tune. I like it. BUT the switch is crap straight out of the box. Would like a better tailpiece but for what it is it works fine.
Hello!! Wonderful base you own!! Can you please tell me the weight??? It’s crucial to me and I’m interested in the mex mustang of the video
@@Thantas It weighs just under 7.5 pounds. Great little bass. You can see mine in my crappy videos I just started making because I've been COVID bored at home.
@@PanaGringoBarefootBass thank you veeeery much!! I’ll be watching the videos about mustangs!! I’ll go check right now!! I will be ordering mine soon! Stay safe! Stay productive!!!
I replaced the switch with a pot and a small knob, controlling the P-pickup. The normal volume knob controls the J-pup and the tone knob controls both tone. Might interest you!
That one Jazz pickup on the US one looks like a gigantic afterthought.
And a brilliant afterthought it is. It adds TONS of versatility. In fact, I run mine with that afterthought soloed most of the time. And for you purist types that have been whining about that pickup for months and months now, there is now the Vintera series Mustang bass with only one teeny-tiny little pickup just like it is still 1964. So... no more bellyaching. K?
Chill out, dude! I meant the look, not the sound. Hence the word "look".
And I don't care for the sound of Jazz pickups in the bridge position anyway. Never use it on my Precision, even if it's there. Would look better with a more Mustang-ish cover, though, you have to admit that!
I played both but couldn’t justify the difference in prices. “string through” makes little to no difference in tone at all & actually interferes with the tone, especially with flat wounds. “Sustain” is a funny argument for string through instruments…in 50 years of playing, haven’t had to worry about sustain at all. The stock pickups in the MIM are not very good. I replaced mine with Dimarzio PJ pickups & dropped in a 62 p bass stacked pot harness & disabled the switch.
11:35 9:00
New guy is cool
Idk why but i thought the Mikey Way Sig would be in the Video
There aren't enough videos of the Mikey Way Signature
because the strings have to be lower in tension to achieve the same pitch on a short scale bass, short scale basses are intrinsically DARKER, not brighter.
The same way a grand piano has way more sparkly highs compared to an upright!
I want that white bass 😭😭😭
8:04 10:26 8:24 10:42 8:37 11:00 8:51 11:13 9:00 11:34 9:11 13:10
I dnt like short scales cause of teh floppy rubbery tone to them. I wish they made more like 36 inch+ scale basses for us big fellas. I'm 6'6 and I would enjoy it.
The color makes a huge different. I'd say the aubergine mustang sounds more natural/organic and the arctic white sounds crisper and cleaner. lol
Does a shorter scale length Bass change the tone? I honestly don't know?
You tend to hear more low end and less hi’s and mids
@@markperry7655 Agree. Now that I bought a Sterling Stingray SS-4. Of all the short scale basses, the Stingray and the Sire sound the most like a Full scale. I've also EQ'd my Rumble 100 - to slightly boost the treble & high-mid to compensate. Fantastic little bass. oNe LovE from NYC
🌱🎵 Short scale, lite body weight and fretless....., yummi! 👍
for the $ i would rather have a Chowny TBH
I prefer my Japanese built Mustang thank you.
Lee is such a Klee player
Short scales are the jam...
Más que nada es el control de calidad de los países
Always good info (a little too much silliness).
I really like most the mexican bass
I played the Mexican Mustang when I was in the market for a vintage American Musicmaster (very similar to these) and couldn't find one, and honestly the Mexican Mustang sounded like garbage to me for what it costs (though in this video it sounds pretty decent). Fast forward a year and I got to play an American version of the Mustang and instantly fell in love with it (even more so than the Musicmaster I ended up finding and buying). Right then and there I had to order one off Reverb (cheaper than what the shop was asking). Moral of the story is that If you're on the fence between these two basses; GET THE AMERICAN ONE. To me it wasn't even a question.
Horseshit, I have a Mexican Offset series PJ Bass and its the best Bass I've ever owned and I've owned plenty of American Basses in my time.
Strings through body, nice but no meaning for sustain or sound.
Not useful for those that play flats, the hard break angle for string through will separate the ribbon winding and expose the core wire , shortening string life.
To my ear the MIM has better tone & more variety of tones.
I would love to see a Sound Like Paul McCartney
Matthew Nishimuta flatwounds, pick, heavy compression and palm muting.
Two words... Alan Lancaster. Nuff said.
Ha ha .. that's what brought me here !
The shame is that many bass players dont recognise that Stevie Wonder tune off of Songs in the key of life. I had it on 8 track.
I Wish right?
Is that a pick 😱😭
Cheers guys, Lees playing......sigh. :)
Prefer the guy on the left. The older bass guy seems like a know it all no offense
Just bought a MIM mustang this week. That red circle sticker once removed has left an orange circle stain on my pick guard. 🤬
Have you tried using a solvent to get rid of it?
There was a plastic film. It must have seeped thru that as well.
Toby Griffin you can get sweet custom pick guards from eBay made for the Mexican model, and not very expensive. If that helps at all. It also has an issue that it starts to warp and buldge which effected my toggle switch so maybe it’s a good idea to get another pick guard anyway and you can personalize it a bit. But it’s a damn fine bass for the price!
Buy some Goo gone should take it right off if not then use some plastidip to paint it whatever color you want
