this album is really good. no filler, high quality from start to finish. also, I just noticed the theme of controller buttons. every song title has a button capitalized in its name, and all the SNES/famicom buttons are represented (a,b,x,y,start, select,L,R,up,down, left, right). that's a nice touch.
17:28 to 17:34... how the treble increases in pitch and intensity while at the same time the bass gets lower... how do you come up with that?! You are out of this world talented sir.
Ben Pryor Somehow, I missed your [nice] comment(s)! I promise you, it's not some big trick-- just a little crescendo (i.e. in volume, register, layering, etc.) before the chorus, you know? :) At any rate, thank you for listening!
You grab the listener and never let go! This is fantastic. You made great use of those soundfonts and effects in tracks bursting with content. One of my favorite chiptune albums of 2014 and beyond.
I am so glad I found this. This is like a dream to listen to. (I really like the SNES and the sounds it can produce) My favourites are probably 3, 5 and 8.
I got into Chiptune back about a year or two ago when Soundshock 2 was released. I haven't listened too all that ubiktune has to offer, but I am sure glad I found your album. I never get tired of any of the tracks. They all sound so fresh!
I am sure glad you found my album, too! :) It's been an honor releasing music on Ubiktune (SOUNDSHOCK 2 is one of my favorite releases of all time)! It's a fantastic netlabel-- I encourage you to check out all of the other albums! Oh, and thanks for the comment-- you're far too kind!
This whole album is great and extremely impressive, but the Pilotwings track is HOLY SHIT awesome, particularly the sequence from 17:03 to 17:49... damn!
+Paul Kaye Although all of my music is "pay-what-you-want" (or, in other words, FREE if you choose!), I'm always happy when someone thinks my music is worth a few bucks, you know? It's always appreciated! So, thank you!
Hey! We just hosted the Zenith Quintet at University of Houston this weekend, and got to hear your music for the first time. I LOVE chiptune and VGM stuff and have been checking out your tracks. I really like the direction you're going in, and I'm also so happy you're familiar with the Blitz Lunar, William Kage, and TSSF soundfonts and putting them to good use! This is basically a blend of everything I love. Keep up the great work, and would love to hear some more live performances sometime!
Hey, thanks! I'm happy to hear that the ZQ is still performing "joySTICK IT" and, of course, thrilled that you were introduced to my music as a result of their workshop. Yeah, I've been a part of the chiptune/VGM community in some capacity for the better part of the past decade. (And from the looks of your own YT channel, the same goes for you, right? Good stuff, by the way.) I have less time for writing this sort of stuff these days (what with family, work, etc.), but I've got a few irons in the fire that will see a release this year. So, stay tuned! Thanks again for the dropping by, and best of luck on your own VG-related projects. :)
I found this album coincidentally while I was looking for Soundfonts to make music for my game. Usually I listen to chipmusic and think: "Yeah, it's alright". But your album was the first of its kind that I really appreciated and loved. Thanks!
It's been 5 years now and I've listened to this album so many times. Each song has it's own flavor and distinct sound to it. The melodies are catchy and the rhythms are kick-ass. Also I understand using whatever these soundfonts offer as an instrument would be a task but you handle it so damn well.
Well, I give a "flying fuck," if that's any consolation. :) I'm glad that, in re-visiting the album, you found some measure of happiness, which-let's be honest-is hard to come by in this godforsaken year. (By the way, I'm not sure if you're aware, but I released a sequel to the album a few weeks ago, so be sure to check it out!)
Absolute gem of an album. I haven't heard good chip-funk like this in a while and it isn't just good chip music, but good music in general. I hope you put some effort into getting this some exposure.
HELL YES! you've got the syncopation and skipped beats i crave along w the familiar video game sfx this is so entertaining, i love the mall trip filler episode vibes of SELECT Tech Samba
This whole album is unbelievable. I wish I could get my hands on these midi files and analyze/absorb your talents haha. Out of LEFT Field is something else man. Loving everything you release.
Thank you! No MIDI files (for each track) exist currently, but I may consider creating some in the future, especially if there is any kind of demand, you know? Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! (And, of course, thanks for listening!)
Zackery Wilson Demanding here! :) Also (somebody maybe already asked this but) where do you get your sound fonts from? Do you extract them yourself, and if so, can you make them/are they available for download anywhere??
Arvid Olson I've gathered soundfonts from all over the web, but perhaps the biggest source (of SNES soundfonts, specifically) can be found here: www.williamkage.com/snes_soundfonts/
Thank you! I already knew about the william page site, but now I know they are "good enough" quality :) . Sorry for late response, been on holiday on Iceland! Keep on making great music! :)

This is phenomenal!! You can really tell that a lot of thought went into this album. I love covering songs with NES or SNES instruments, but I really want to learn how to write my own songs. Keep being awesome!
+dlaskin92 I seriously appreciate the kind words! Thanks! To answer your question: You will most definitely see another album at some point. However, I can't say for certain when that will be exactly. Things have been a little hectic on my end over the last year, so I haven't been able to produce music at the rate I'd prefer, you know? That said, I'd say there's a great chance you'll see a sequel to SNESQUE in the future (in addition to other albums, EPs, singles, etc.).
Thank you! Releasing a sequel (SNESQUE II) soon, so be on the lookout. :) And yes, very familiar with kulor's music. Just incredible chiptune goodness! For anyone reading this comment, go listen for yourself: kulor.bandcamp.com/
Hi, Carmia! To answer your question: The track "Snowball's Chance in 'L [Breath of Fire II]" isn't based off of anything, really. I mean, sure, the track incorporates instruments/sounds (soundfont) from the Super Nintendo title "Breath of Fire," but the music is wholly original (i.e. not a remix or a cover of a previous track), as are the rest of the tracks on the album. The parenthetical simply denotes the soundfont used from each respective SNES video game, that's all.

I didn't even know SNESQUE I existed, but now... LET'S GO!

@@FSTR_4 Yes! So long as you provide proper credit (i.e. artist name, track name, and a link to said track). That's all I ask. Thanks!

Love the old school sound, really funky and smooth at the same time.
