- On 31 July 1991, legendary musician, composer, and record producer Quincy Jones spoke to ITN's Fiona Murch about the upcoming release of Ellen Weissbrod's documentary about his life, Listen Up: The Lives of Quincy Jones. In the course of the interview, Jones revealed who had been his greatest influences as a young musician; how he became interested in composing; his approach to music production and collaborating with artists; why he could never work with an artist he didn't like; the power of music as a form of political expression; and the role of artistic communication in shaping world events, from the end of the Cold War and the collapse of Communism to the release of Nelson Mandela.

A legend. How many producers can you say were involved in the influence of so many different genres? Rest in peace!
An absolute gift. Timeless!
THANKS for this...the MAIN players are ALL gone now. Michael, Quincy, Quincy Jones boys, composer Rod Temperton and there LONG-time recording/mixing engineer, Bruce Swedien. man, what a hell of a team they were.
yes one hell of a team
Thanks for this, ITN Archive. Another music legend, Prince, passed away in 2016, and music artiste Morris Day, of the music band "Morris Day and The Time," described Prince as follows: "He came through here like a hurricane." Quincy Jones also "came through here like a hurricane." In the 2018 biographical documentary "Quincy," on Quincy Jones and his life, there is a video clip of Quincy Jones being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey, where Quincy Jones makes an interesting statement, saying that he and his contemporaries were not done making music, and that he and his contemporaries would continue making the best quality music they could, to leave behind for future generations.
The way Quincy put it, is that we want our work to speak for itself, so much so, that future generations "will know we came through here." Loved the way Quincy put it. For what it’s worth Mr. Jones, future generations will know the likes of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Louis Armstrong, Elvis Presley and Prince "came through here," and future generations too, will know that Quincy Jones "came through here."
Rest in Peace, Mr. Jones.
