No way! My Sister's Furby did the same. Not on Christmas itself, but later when someone (probably my Dad) had taken the batteries out it.
Aaaah, Ghostbusters, such great memories, it premiered at the cinema in Norway in desember of 1984, and I was 10, the age restriction for the movie was 12! so it’s a double memory for me, both the most awesome movie I’ve ever seen with insane special effects, and also the first movie I managed to sneak into being too young (I was a tall kid) … funnily the next year, in november, mad max after thunderdome premiered in november, with a 16 year age limit … and now being almost 12 I got into that as well - good times :D
Growing up in 70s I never knew or heard of never getting the toy you wanted at Christmas it appears to be more a thing later in the 80s onwards , every toy I wanted as a kid I got 🤔

So sweet and awesome that you guys have the same memories as I did as a kid always having a toy in my pocket whether it was at school, in my dad's car on the way somewhere or at church at Christmas which was so boring...awesome...and like you Theo, I still carry new toys or painted minis around with me...even at the moment with my girlfriend's parents I have my newly painted slimy frog monster from Hellboy with me😅... I think tiny Theo's mind would be blown that his OG Mandroid was the catalyst for all this creativity, so sweet of your mum to keep hold of him. OG Mandroids head deserves a limited run, would make a sick keyring. This unlocked a memory with that old school deadly toolbox aswell 😂
