I have a good road bike and I bought a Northrock SR1 as my second road bike for bad roads and rock dust trails. I was able to switch parts from another bike that I sold. I got nice Shimano Wheels with Continental tires, to make my bike full Sora, I bought Sora crankset with Shimano Hollowtech II bottom bracket and Sora rim brakes. For comfy rides, I changed the saddle and stem to fit my position. For that price, it's impossible to find an aluminium bike with Sora groupset, the best bang for your buck should be Shimano 105, the only store that sells bikes with Shimano 105 at a decent price is Decathlon (Van Rysel, AG2R Team sponsor).
Thanks Jerry! I'm just doing this because every other UA-cam review I've ever watched pisses me off. If I 'get big' reviewing things I buy anyways life will make even less sense than it does now
@@umarvakil unfortunately this one is too small. I’m 6ft as well. Would you please recommend the upgrades needed? I am planning to do 80 km trip on it soon If you share links that would great I bought one yesterday Thanks
Awesome! That’s a solid distance! Honestly I would try and run it stock till the parts wear out and need to be replaced. For the saddle I can’t really recommend one as it’s best to head to a bike shop and get a tech to recommend one based on your body size/shape. That’s what I would also do for the rest of your upgrades as well. Take it in to a local reputable bike shop and tell the bike tech how much you have to spend and what they recommend. This will give you a way better answer than I could because if you do the work yourself like I would it changes things. Hope that helps!
I've been thinking of replacing my 32 year old Schwinn (bought new). Some of these "big box" stores seem to have bikes that compare favorably to the road bikes of yesteryear. This one looks to be an example. But it's Fall already, I guess I can hang on until next year. They manufacture more every day. I'm 5'10" so the bike sounds like it will fit.
@@TheLastHonestInfluencer All is not rosy with the Schwinn. Unfortunately, I had a flat while riding it yesterday. Steel hybrid bikes can be kept running a long time. Thanks.
Great question! What kind of riding do you want to do mostly? If you want to go fast on paved city trails get the SR1, if you want to do any off paved trail riding at all get the XC29. XC29 is sort of ok on pavement too, just way slower. Hope that helps!
Never heard of it so I had to look it up. Get that one for sure. It’s obviously $300-$350 more…but you can pick the best frame size for you. This frame comes in one size…as you can see I made it work but it looks like a clown bike for tall people, not great ergonomically. Also, the components on the decathlon are all upgraded including the saddle. The sr1 is a sweet bike, but if you have the money you should get the decathlon. My 2 cents.
@@TheLastHonestInfluencer Thanks for the reply. COSTCO's frame is actually fine (I'm not tall). I just want something to commute to work and the swimming pool. Something decent like not too cheap and not too expensive, so either fit the bill. Which one do you think is better bang for the buck?
Great question. This medium frame states 5’7” to 6’1” so it might be a bit too big for you. If you have longer legs it could work. It’s always best to fit a bike in person though.
Thank you! I’ll try to find the links for you, but a very shallow google search should of ‘giant factory in Taiwan makes northrock’ or something like that should do the trick
