  • 2/4 - It's fun to see these "stars" from over 30 years ago. Bob Vila, Rich Trethewey, Norm Abram - all heroes of mine.
(VHS Tape transfer) This Old House was the reason I bought a VHS player when I could afford on in 1984 - just to tape the shows. As it turned out, I never actually watched the tapes. I know: what a waste.

It's amazing how much simpler people's needs and ideas for a home were then. Today everybody does everything so ridiculously over the top. Lots of wasted space and money.

I have seen every episode since 1979. It was a good show about fixing old houses back then. They even talked a lot about budget back then. The show became "This Old Millionaire's House" at some point about 30 years or more ago. They Never speak of money anymore. The renovations they do these days must cost a million dollars at least. I used to love this show. I still watch because I can DVR it and watch it in 22 minutes, but I shake my head and wonder what universe they live in.

I remember HGTV aired these early TOH episodes in the mid-late 1990s. I can't believe these aren't available anywhere online nowadays. Bob Vila and Steve Thomas era shows are lost in the memory hole for some reason (legal or $$$).

Only $15,000?! Wow. That's cheap even before sweat equality.

everyone is tall and skinny, good ol 1980's with no real obesity problems, processed foods, iphones, video games, TV Media making us fat and lazy. Richard's gut is actually non-existent!! Crazy!!!

With the exception of iphones, everything else you mentioned existed in the 80s. Just another case of rose colored glasses.

Today, contractors laugh at you if you suggest something like "sweat equity". They make huge money doing small parts of the job like cleanup and such.

@FunnyStuffCollector has added this playlist: ua-cam.com/video/Bt__QZfaX74/v-deo.html (which are the 5 parts of this one show) - but has already mentioned this is the only one digitized and posted. Apparently no more tapes.

i can't really put my finger on it, but rob and jennifer seemed like they were one step away from being angry about something, like they would be quick to be mad about something and scold someone harshly over it. it seemed like if bob wasn't careful with what he was saying to them or asking them, things could've gotten ugly really quick.

Bob Vila is know for his big ego but limited knowledge of actual home improvement skills. He gets on a lot of people's nerves, and the TOH crew actually were happy when he was fired from the show.

    •  3 роки тому

@@andrewfutterman3346 And Andi proves herself to be another Internet Idiot.
Vila was a well-known, well-respected vintage home restorer before TOH ever existed. That's how Russ Morash became aware of him in the first place.
He was NOT fired, asswipe. He LEFT over contractual matters, formed his own production company, had a highly successful show of his own for years and is currently worth over 20 million. And there was never anything said about or from the "crew". Making things up, eh dumdum?
But don't let facts get in the way of a good whine, Nanci.
