- A story of an American Kayaker Dane Jackson plunges down a 134ft waterfall in Chile in death-defying feat. Dane Jackson (26) had wanted to conquer Salto Del Maule after first seeing it in 2016.

@@ssherrierable No. Because he kayaks at a level equaled by very very few paddlers in the entire world. Nobody on the planet wins more competitions that DJ, whether it's downriver races or freestyle. And he could probably hold his own with the best slalom paddlers as well. Dane is a world class athlete.

@@brandonmiller3892 When I started whitewater kayaking I was told you need a minimum of 5 things to kayak safely and successfully: Kayak, Paddle, PFD, Helmet, and Spray Skirt. So every time I head off to meet at a put-in or takeout I always make sure I have the big 5 pieces of gear. But yea what you said, haha.

yeah but this is like literally central Chile, I live in Linares, near Salto del Maule, tho it's undoubtedly beautiful, there are other places way more amazing, specially in Patagonia!

@@nicomorales8806 thanks! I made it to Chile Chico and the marble caves, ever sense I’ve been obsessed worn the south. We went during peak apricot season, even freestyle rapped with some local kids. Drove from Atacama to Santiago too, the north is a lot different hahaha.
@@TenThumbsProductions Glad you made it! I was there two years ago, backpacking carretera austral from Puerto Montt to the marble caves. Chiloé is also a great place to relax. But Torres del Paine, It's like being on another planet, that place is totally recommended!

I know that zone very well and can tell how awesome this is... That place is also know as "Valle de los Cóndores", an amazing place to rock climbing.

Biggest is Palouse falls, been done by multiple people, first was Tyler Brandt. Not sure if Dane has done it though.
9:50 he's talking about being happy he measured after, so because I was HIS highest fall and knowing that might have thrown off his confidence at the time.

Probably 20 feet away from base of falls he would have had to been trying to hit it
I don't think u get how waterfalls work lol, there's a massive hole at the base where the water has been pounding down for 100's of years.

@@QuartzGolem Depends on the water composition and the pressure per square inch. A short drop is going to put more pressure on the base, thus the dug-out will form quicker.
24hrs a day for 500 years is going to have an affect especially if it's mineral rich water.
Taking a stroke in the drop (7:02) says something for Dane. I can remember Eric having Dane in a kayak doing ferries at the Nantahala after a slalom race. He was maybe four, armpits just over the cockpit

@@sunnyztmoney I work at a seakayak renting place and we actually have a person in a wheelchair that comes down to paddle in her own boat, ya wouldn't be able to do this stuff though, even if you could get the same safety in rescues, you need those legs to keep you in control of the boat when in freefall

What the: Surprisingly I’ve never heard of a competent whitewater kayaker getting paralyzed doing this stuff. Numerous deaths however - almost always due to getting pinned underwater - not from the impact. The only thing that makes these drops possible is the highly aerated water at the bottom - it’s the perfect mixture of air and water. Pure water would be way too hard of an impact.

This is an absolutely insane thing to do and is awesome but the fact that he understands the risks just makes him seem like such a more human and real person, someone just like us and what we could be if we tried hard enough. Props to you bro that's awesome!

Getting a birds eye drone view of this drop makes it so hard to believe the world record waterfall drop in a kayak exceeds 200 ft. It's hard to imagine such a fall even being possible when run perfectly. Put I'll say this drop looked even scarier than Palouse Falls, which looks much deeper by comparison. Makes me wonder whether Dane did anything to gauge the actual depth at the base of the drop?
