What are your thoughts on the Mola Structural Kits?
In my opinion it's offer more and more understanding of structural members deformation
The whole idea (and production) of the "mola" system is from an Brazilian Engineer. I was able to see one presentation of the initial system at "Instituto de Engenharia" in Sao Paulo (6 years ago).
I'm a structural engineer from Brazil and I live in CA since 2015. I spent most of my time in Irvine - Orange County. I tried many times to contact you (to make a networking), but no reply back...
Now I'm in Davis, where I'm gonna start my graduate studies. I hope one day to meet you in person. My goal is to study seismic analysis, since we do not have it in Brazil.
Nice work with the channel, congratulations. Ohh! by the way "mola" means spring in Portuguese.
They are useful to understand supports and also are a good decoration for my desk
Thanks so much for that info Leonardo! Apologies for my lack of responsiveness, I get hundreds of messages/requests/emails/comments and it's difficult to respond/keep track of them all. Hoping to meet more of you in person when COVID and my SE exams are finally over.
Mat Picardal yes, sure. Let’s know about the SE exam! I’m certain that you are gonna make a video about that. Good luck...
Ooo I think I found a new desk toy!
*looks at prices*
-_- hello lego my old friend
Lol, not too bad for an educational learning tool to be used at universities and structural engineering firms, but as a toy, yes, an expensive toy :)
It's really great to know that this Mola Structural Kit was develop by a Brazillian Architect. It helps students to understand how does the structure behavior and turns the design thinking more easier.
Yes, students studying these concepts for the first time is sometimes difficult, but seeing it and playing with it is another level.
Sir I'd personally like to thank you so much for making such a niche yet essential profession out in the lime light and allowing other aspirants to be more confident about it. Thankyou so much, appreciated
You are very welcome Zain! Thanks for the kind words!
how can i find this matériel, for do this expriment ?
you make me want to continue my dream of becoming a structural engineer
Awesome, best of luck! You got this!
I think for that slender column example, even with the rigid joints you put in, one direction is braced yes due to the adjacent braced bay, but the other direction it's acting as a sway frame so technically its unbraced
Agreed. What's cool about the model is that even though it's technically unbraced, you can see/feel that putting a beam there definitely helps prevent column buckling. And in real life, we'd check that the stiffnesses of the columns were actually strong enough to be consider as braced.
Just got my kit 2 and 3...... I’d love to see more engineering examples 😍
Awesome CU!
Plz make a video about structural vs architectural drawings. 🙏🙏
Nice! They are awesome. And the last estructura, genial!
Glad you like them Mario!
Mat, I love your channel. Thankyou for showing me this!
My pleasure Sam!

Hi Mat. I'll likely end up buying one of these for my office. Which one of the Mola Kits do you recommend? I might be leaning towards kit 2, as it seems to include a little of everything.
I think it depends on what you're into building. Mola 1 is the most basic, but it has longer span members and diaphragm/plates. Mola 2 has fancier moment/splice connections, but smaller span members and diaphragm/plates. Mola 3 is great if you're into bridges and tension members, but doesn't come with diaphragms. If you look at the manuals online, they go more in depth on the parts. I personally would've just gone with Mola 1 since it's the bread and butter and allows me to play with the seismic behavior of the diaphragms.
Amazing! Big Thanks Mat picardal, you're really inspiring person.
My pleasure, thanks so much for the kind words Mahamed!
Concepts are understood better this way.
Wish I had them when I was a student!
That’s a great product, and I wish I can purchase it and keep it on my office desk to understand some of the engineering concept at a glance, but the pricing is out of my budget. 😔 I hope in future I shall get one. 😊
Yeah, they are kind of expensive for students and young professionals, but I think they were originally meant for educators/schools/large companies, but it's great knowing they are available to the public as well, but at a price.
Thank u so much sir for this wonderful conceptual video , God bless u , love u from India
You are most welcome!
Great review! Thank you.
My pleasure Josephine!
Thk mat for that magnificent video
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.
*Mat Picardal* I looking for your next video
Thank you!
What happens to a structural engineer when a building that they signed collapses??
Co-asking
Blood Ravens as long as they follow the prescribed codes in that country. And prevent brittle collapse, your safe.
In general, if it collapses when it's not suppose to, then you will most likely lose your engineering license and get sued.
i want to be a civil engineer in the future, but that stuff scares me a bit......
@@knightshade9118 It's a fun field
Excellent video.
Glad you liked it Mohammad!
Thanks Mat!
We need some frequency please.
Took forever to have this video
I'd love to, but I'm focusing on studying for my S.E. license in October. Will try to keep everyone updated, just don't have the time right now to upload as much as I'd want to.
Thanks.
Intriguing channel for aspiring structural engineers
This is awesome!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Meron po ba kayong idea sa planning engineer or do u have any idea in planning engineer. I'm student at ph and my grades Ave is not compatible in stem strand and ang pwede lang sakin ay mechanical and industrial that industrial have Planning engr so I'm curious in that. I want to become civil engineer too. Please answer thx po.
Hi sir. Do you have any recommend book for deep excavation ? Thank for your share !!!
Sorry, I don't have one off the top of my head, not really my specialty.
Mat Picardal ohhh thank you brother for reply !!!!
Great!
Right!?
Please making bahasa.
very cool!
Thumbs down. I'm sorry but you are "reviewing" a product that you are being sponsored by.
Although I finally landed on the Chemical Engineering square I still recall building structures with the plastic Kenner Girder and Panel kits and spending a great deal of time torsioning, tensioning and compressing these small red plastic test structures and 'feeling' the reactions. What I would have given to have had any of these Mola kits. Thanks for the video.
I'm designing a 4'x5' CNC router table out of 8020 aluminum extrusions. It is overkill when I could have probably just built a wood frame. I am trying to figure out the most efficient way to build a strong frame that could support 200lbs. Since it is aluminum, it will have some flex and I don't want it to deform especially after I paid so much!
This is so cool!! My school is giving me this set to use at my thesis defence presentation. This video made me even more excited to use it!!!
Awesome!
This is absolutely Gorgeous,I love the devices, keep on posting
I have 12 kits on the way of the Mola2; I cannot wait to try these with my students !
I.want to be a civil.engeneer
You can do it!
@@MatPicardal thanks i will trh my best
Great educational tools...Mola should think about a miniature educational shaking table too to shake those structural models
"#$%kj3oi52$#&%$&%
I bought yesterday kit 2 and 3 and didn't have a promo code :(
I guess this is more for schools to purchase for learning tools
Hello Sir. May I ask if you are willing to be interview about issues or problems in Civil Engineering Field. I hope you will notice me.
Very cool. This would make a great Christmas gift for a structural engineering nerd lol
Hope you’re alright. More videos please I miss you so much.
I wish I have money to buy this mola sturctural kit
Hey why do you stopped making videos again..🙄
No new innovations in structure 🙄
I hope you upload a tutorial about structural designing a simple residential structure in the near future. Hope you read this!
Hello Sir Mat. Is there reciprocity process for Engineers here in the Philippines migrating there on US?
Are you a half Filipino?
How to invent in this field tell some tips ❤️ love from india🙏
Hey mat,
Last year the job grow for civil engineers was a around 6%, but this year 2020 its around 2% according to the BLS. Is that due to COVID-19 or something else is going on here 🤷♂️
please give a video about maths and physics used in structural engineering in a daily job life. thanks and great work
If I get an MBA and a Civil Engineering Degree, will I have a better salary?
Major gimmick
Thank you sir
¡Amazing!
Quick question for anyone. When do u recommend a structural engineer student to get an internship?
After the 3rd semester and beyond
Before you start
Muy bueno, Mat. Gracias por compartir.
Is there a lot of demand in civil engineering? Is it worth studying civil engineering?
I like the profession but I don't know if it has a great future.
There's demand for construction management imho. Working for a general contractor, you get to see the engineering in action if your in the field. There, you could witness the assembling steel structures (moment/bolted connections, steel shapes, etc.), placement of slabs/walls/rebar/anchor bolts, soil preperation, etc. You may be able to be involved with some layout/field measuring (ie. surveying). You may get to be involved with crane plans and heavy lifts. If your working with buildings, and depending on they company, you will likely have to work with non-civil stuff as well like carpet/paint/cabinets, mep, fire protection etc. All that to say you can work for a construction company rather than a design firm and maintain an appreciation for civil engineering even if you arent designing on paper per say.
Do the springs show whether the member is in tension or compression? I can't tell if it's just the way its set up?
Pre-ordered mine on July 26th, kit released on 31st of July and it arrived yesterday all the way from Brazil! (I’m in the UK). I’m amazed by it! The box is wayyy larger than it is on video and I can’t wait to create more structures with it.
Bay Mat I was wondering how much does a civil engineer makes after taxes. I know it’s different for everybody but could you give me an hint 🤔
Depends on a lot of things. New grad vs someone who has a lot of experience or their PE, could be 50k vs 120k. Also depends on location and project type.
where can I buy that...
You can check the description for the website and discount code.
It’s like adult Legos
That's really cool. Much easier to understand than just read a book. Hope all my lecturers have this to help the explanation
Thanks so much for the very informative videos you post! I was wondering what classes master degree students must take to become competitive in structure industry.
Excellent!
Thanks Victor!
I like it ! 🔥
Yaaaas!
Please. From where we can get this modular pieces
Check the description links, I link to their website and the discount code.
Would this be available in India?
Yes, they ship international.
@@MatPicardal alright!
The rods that you use them to do the cross sign between 2 column is called tie rods right?
Can you speak about the process of construction? Additionally it would be great if you discuss about the hierarchy of construction site, for example chain of the different commands. Cheers
Genius
Thanks!
Hi sir, huge fan of urs...i m civil engineer from india and i've been working in planning profile for the last 3 years. Actually i always wanted to work as a structural engineer in the companies like wsp, aecom , atkins etc but my grades were not that good..nd neither did these companies visited our college campus. Sir , could u plz guide me which softwares should i learn to get into designing profile or should i get a masters degree in structural engineering???
7:52 Both columns buckle ;)
I think that's just because he puts some lateral force on the joint rather than a pure axial load? He technically didn't say it wouldn't buckle under lateral loading (ie wind or seismic loading) so fair enough Mat :')
I am an asian, can they deliver here?
They should be able to on their website they've delivered to over 60 counties including Asia.
@@MatPicardal thank you
Hey Mat, saw you speak at one of the SEAOSC monthly dinners and I have been watching your videos ever since. Love what you're doing, keep at it!
Thanks so much for the support Daniel, added you on LinkedIn!
Is necesary to know much construction for being structural engineer?
Unfortunately, no, but it really should be.
Have you ever thought to start own company?
Do you need powerful computer for running of CAD programmes?
