Well, Bob did make it into the Hall of Fame. Also, when I was a kid when I would buy nickel packs of baseball cards. In every one of them, I got a Bob Uecker. If I had those cards today, I would have enough to buy a meal at Outback steakhouse.
He hit only 14 homerun's...and a great number (7-8) were off Hall of Fame players and only once. He jokes he did it just to "ruin" their chances of making it in....
Bob was a valuable player. Teams traded him away and then went on to win the pennant. He was awarded three World Series rings from the teams that traded him.
Honestly, no talk shows have guests like him anymore. Someone might crack a good joke or be self-deprecating at times but nothing like this. Newhart, Uecker, Dangerfield, and please forgive me, the football guy with the great stories. Seems people like that just don't exist anymore.
How come they cut the rest of this bob elson routine out?? He had Carson and the audience in stitches!!! It was on youtube a long time now I cant find it....
Sometimes baseball makes me hungry. When you get a real hotdog on the mound who throws the batter some high cheese, then the batter pops it up and it's a can of corn for the centerfielder.
saw Uecker passing thru LA intl coming home from hong kong in 85. l looked at another traveler nodded my head to confirm. yep. l respected his privacy. l promised myself if l encountered a big celeb, just half smile, nod and maybe gd evg. nothing else.
Whoever cast Uecker in Major League was an absolute genius.
Watched Major League from time to time, still one of the best baseball movies ever made.

Nobody better than Ueck! His HOF speech is priceless!
So he did make it?
"My average was right up there with Don Carter, one of the great bowlers."

One of the few GENUINE off the cuff funny guys! Nothing rehearsed which showed true humor and a rich experienced life!!
And with a straight face!! He's a treasure!!
I was at this show in the audience. What an honor.
You lucky son of a gun! Damn.
You were not.
Bob Uecker has always been a Wisconsin treasure.
His deadpan delivery is epic!
He really does have to perfect Sports Announcer's voice.
Timing and delivery. Bob is a very funny man.
Essence of comedy. Thank you.
Ueck is a state treasure for Wis

Norm MacDonald and Artie's stories about Uecker are great. He made a hilarious career out of mediocrity. Very unique person.
“Now I’m not going “

He can literally be a stand up comedian and kill it!
National treasure, that one.
Priceless...
God I miss Johnny.
Why are you talking to God ?
Too good for this world.
Such a delightful dry sense of humor.
And very quick wit too.
He always jokes about how bad of a player he was... you don’t play pro ball for 14 years without being damn good! Lol

Probably Art Donovan. Played for the colts in the 50's. He was on the tonight show quite a few times. He was hilarious
Art would extoll the virtues of the Four Food Groups, so important to a healthy existence.. Baloney, Salami,Hot dogs and Ham.😅.@@curtismoon5316
