Considering the performance gain/loss is so minimal i kinda just want to do the intake just for appearance and sound. Although what I really want is a set-it-and-forget-it setup so im probably better off staying stock. Really interesting video and information. Thanks for putting this out there
I use the racing beat fiberglass sealed airbox. I think this solves the hot air problem. It also receives cool air from the bumper area. It looks good too.
I'm just a regular guy driving my low mileage '94 on the street. Not interested in max horsepower and certainly don't care if I get 4 additional horses on the top end. I go fast enough on the streets around here redlining it all day long. I like the sound and the low end torque for what I do. I installed the Rev9 Power Air intake box and my butt dyno says it really gave the car a kick in the pants on the low end. I did it for the sound (which is great), but was pleasantly surprised at the power gain. I also did an intake and MAF sensor cleaning so that might explain it all, but I just wanted to add my take on this ARC type system which sucks air from the stock box location.
I wonder if the 12 inch long system had a heat shield to add separation between the intake and the exhaust, and I wonder how effective the heat shield is? I am currently thinking about swapping the stock intake box with a HPS Shortram Air Intake Kit and it come with a heat shield.
