Hi Cynthia!! I am so glad you’re enjoying these videos and It’s such a privilege to have you in our candle making family. I recently started making wax melts too and it’s a lot of fun I think!! Love and light 💛🌱
Thanks so much for this helpful video! I’m a hobby candlemaker, and have been struggling to make beeswax container candles since it has such a high burn point ( I get lots of free beeswax from a beekeeper I know) I’ve tried adding some soy wax to it, but not very much; your info will be a good guide as I work to improve my wax blend.
Thanks for the video Allen! I've been experimenting with different ratios of these waxes on my own (I'm talking like 30 or so different candles so far!) and haven't found the right blend that I'm satisfied with. I'll try your ratio's and do some extensive testing. I've been using 464 for a while now, and like you, don't really like the cottage cheese tops it produces (and I've heard feedback from a lot of customers on that as well), but it's a tradeoff for all natural soy with no paraffin. I think I'll have to make a page on my site dedicated to educating customers on the different type of waxes and why I chose a particular blend and the pro's and con's and what to expect when it burns. Really do appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to make this video - you are awesome!
Hi Gage! Thank you so much for your comment. Yes, I think I had over 100 test candles with different ratios of the ingredients when I was first trying to figure out what I liked. Do make sure to purchase the beeswax from the Amazon supplier I should have linked in the description box of every video-this one for me has been the creamiest and easier to work with than most. I think what you mention about doing an educational page could be really useful!! Love and light always 💛🌱
@@earthglow I was reading some of the reviews on the different bees waxes and some said it wasn’t even bees wax! I always get worried ordering something from a supplier I’m not familiar with, especially on Amazon. Any links you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
I’m playing around with 464 and cd wicks. I’ve not had ANY luck with the wooden wicks from the flaming candle. I think I need bigger jars. The hot throw with them has been awful though even though they are overwicked. This is super informative and I appreciate you doing this video.
Hi Amber! Thank you for your comment. I would highly recommend trying Makesy’s wick guide and trying out some of their booster woodwicks especially for dense natural waxes such as soy. I used to purchase wooden wicks from Candlesandsupplies and had the same experience as you’re having with FC. Love and light always 💛🌱
This is exactly what I've been trying to find in a wax. I wanted to stay away from paraffin too. I'll try this tonight, I have a bunch of 464 laying around.
Allen Thank you so much for your time and being so open to sharing . I love the look of this what I call my " Allen Blend " My question is when I made the recipe and filled my 8oz tin I had 3oz of wax left over. Is the proportion in the recipe correct ? Thanks Allen for your time and help GREAT JOB!!
Hi Kenneth! Thanks for your message. The recipe is not intended to fill any specific size container; it just shows the relationship between the amounts of different ingredients to one another. If you’re using an 8 oz tin, it would likely be filled with about 5.5 ounces of wax which is 63% of the amount of wax that you tried to use. So if you use 63% of all quantities, then you will fill your 8 oz container very closely once you’ve added in your fragrance. I hope this makes sense to you and is helpful! Love and light always 🌱💛
for my blend here, i add oils between 180 and 190 (usually 185), stir for 2 minutes and pour around 145-155. A minimal two week cure is required with this wax.

Hi. I also make my own beeswax blend, no soy. I gave up on wooden wicks now use eco wicks. I make my own concrete vessels which work welll with the blend. I don't sell my candles, just for mysel f n friends. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Lisette! Thank you for your comment!! How neat that you use your own blend too! Yes, I have heard Eco wicks are a great one for many wax types, including many natural waxes. Love and light always and a warm welcome to our UA-cam candle family 💛🌱
Hi there! I’m sorry to hear that and have not experienced this before. Have you purchased the three waxes from the suppliers I mentioned? Love and light always. 💛🌱
Hi Alan once again you truly are an inspiration! I have purchased the Coconut oil you suggested and am waiting for larger quantities of 464 Soy to be available as CS, they are out of stock at the moment. I did purchase different sizes of booster wood wicks from maksey for when I am ready to test. I would also like to try CD and ECO wicks for this recipe as well. I do have a 10 oz. Vessel with 3.25” width top and straight sides. Would you have a suggestion on what other types of wicks might be good to try with this wax blend? Thanking you kindly 🙏🏻❤ 🔥
I'm trying out this wax blend recipe and first of all, thank you for all the info, but I have questions. At what temp do you pour the wax? do you have trouble with adhesion at all? My candles have a lot of frosting and some cracking but I wonder if it was too cold in the kitchen and it cooled too fast?
Hi Allen, hope everything's well with you. I'm totally new to this candle making stuff. I tried making bubble , arch candles using only soy wax and it came out well but when I tried to make a wavy candle or korean cake candle, I just can't make it right no matter how much I tried to follow the UA-cam recipes. I just got to know that for such types we need to use blended wax or pillar blend from somewhere. I've been searching for blended online and I couldn't find it in my country. I purchased coconut wax before watching this video, to blend it with Soy to make the creamy part of the cake candles. Will it work ? Or should I just cancel the coconut wax and order bee's wax instead like you mentioned ? Hope you help me with this. 💛
Hi Kyra! Thank you for your comment. I do not have experience with this type of candle making, unfortunately. That said, if it were me, I would go for waxes with a higher meltpoint like beeswax or some types of paraffin and stay away from coconut waxes as they generally have a much lower meltpoint. You can generally always find the melt points on the wax manufacturer’s website. Hope this helps! love and light! 💛🌱
Hi Maddie!!! You can absolutely give it a try-it is solid at room temp, right? I believe I did reply on Patreon as well.. did they not send you a notification?
great videos! My husband is a beekeeper, so we have plenty of beeswax available to us. I want to create a luxury line. Do you recommend just the coconut oil and beeswax since cost of the beeswax is not a problem? Or adding the soy to it makes it work and look better ? Thank you 😊
Hi Julie! Thank you so much for your comment. I think adding in some 464 soy is great for improving HT (it contains soy-based additives which help hot throw) and bringing the melt point down a little which can be useful for safety reasons. But always do your own testing and experimenting!!! Each beeswax performs a little differently too-you may have good luck using yours just as it is. Beeswax alone though can be very challenging for HT. Love and light always 💛🌱🍁✨
I'm currently using soy wax (one I got off Amazon, American Soy Organics or something? "Freedom Soy Wax" I think it says on the front, in a green bag, but I don't know what number it is or is like) - & everything's going pretty good at the moment, except I don't think the fragrance throw is all that great. Would you recommend a blend with paraffin, or is there something else I could probably tweak to improve it? I made my first few batches with 8% fragrance, so maybe I could go to 10 & that may help, but I'm not sure what else to do, I'd really rather not have paraffin in my candles, but I would if that was the best route to go. Would maybe adding a bit of coconut oil to my soy wax be helpful, perhaps? Oh, & if this helps - my CT seems to be pretty good, & I'm currently using HTP wicks, HTP-105 for a 7oz 2.75-ish in diameter jar.
Hi Alan, do you have an updated link for the beeswax? I would love to try your recipe and you noted to be sure to use all the items in your link. Please let me know. You are the best candle mentor. Love love your videos and so happy I found your channel. Where were you in 2020 when I started? 😀
Hi Allen, I am currently using GW 464 Soy Wax and topping off my 10 oz jar at 7.8 oz with a makesy wood wick. I am also using a 10% FO. After the candle cools down it no longer has that smooth top finish and does not look pleasing to the eye. Have you experimented using GW 464 with Soaper's Choice Coconut Oil only? If so, did it create a smooth top finish after each burn? I read that using 1/2 teaspoon per 1 pound wax is ideal, but would like to ask your professional expertise as I am new to the candle making world.
Hi Raul! Thanks for your comment. I have not tried mixing just 464 with coconut oil-my concern with this would be for shipping (both waxes have a very low meltpoint and the coconut is even lower than the 464 soy). I am quite confident that it would help create a smoother finish after burning though. So lots of testing and be sure to keep good notes. Love and light always💛✨🌱
@@earthglow Hi Allen, thanks for the feedback. I tried experimenting with the 464 and coconut oil and was not successful, it is a tricky wax to work with.
@@oc5rac Hi Raul! Thanks for your message. As I mentioned, adding just coconut oil to 464 is not something I’ve tried personally, even though my prediction is that it may help with smoother tops. Would you mind sharing the type and amount of coconut oil you used? The best way I’ve found to get smooth tops with 464 is heating to 200, adding fragrance at 185, stirring for 2 full minutes, and pouring at 135-145. Have you tried this?
@@earthglow @Earthglow Hi Allen, my apologies for the late response, but yes I have tried that method with 464 and works well. I do not have to use the heatgun as much as the past! As for the coconut I used two different ones for my test. The first one was Nutiva Liquid Coconut Oil Organic Classic and the second tester was Omega Nutrition Coconut Oil Wax (it had to be melted). So for both tests, I did 7.8oz top off on all jars with 10% FO. I used 1/2 teaspoon of Coconut oil for 2 jars and same with the other 2. I will be honest, it made the candle look nicer the top off, but it looked like a rocky mountain. I used the heatgun about 4-5 times and did not have a clear smooth top. I am thinking perhaps I used too much Coconut?
@@oc5rac Hi Raul! Thanks for your reply. I really cannot answer this question because I have not tried any of these types of coconut oil and I have also not tried just adding coconut oil to 464. I think the candle photo you sent me in a DM on Instagram looked ideal. 464 will almost always produce bumpy tops after a burn but heating to 200, adding scent at 185, and pouring at 135-145 is the best way I have found to not have to touch up the wax. You’re doing a great job. Love and light always! 💛✨
Hi! I recently discovered your videos and have enjoyed watching them! I've never made candles before and want to very much. I'm starting to get myself confused with all the different websites and recipes. I may be making it harder than it really is but as a newbie I'm not sure what to do. Everyone seems to have different ways of making their candles. I have six 7 ounce jars that I want to attempt making my candles in and wonder what the calculation is for figuring out how much wax to melt as I may do different size jars down the road when I have learned how to make them. I find your combination of waxes and oil interesting and would like to attempt your recipe. Would you be able to hep me with how much soy, bees wax, coconut oil and fragrance I would need for six 7 ounce containers? The manufacturer of the candle jars suggest pouring 6 ounces of wax in each jar. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
@@earthglow I watched the video and understand but I guess I'm trying to figure out how you come up with the calculation to incorporate the beeswax and coconut oil along with the soy wax and fragrance.
Hello Allen, Hope you well. I got a question for you. After letting my candle cures for a week it does happen the top of the candle turn yellowish. I am using soya wax. Do you think this problem is related to the fragrance oil ? Do you have any tips to avoid this please ? That’s my big issue actually. I am leaving in the Caribbean and maybe the place I let my candle cool down is not appropriate. Thanks for your help and have a good day.
Hi Carole! Thank you so much for your comment and a warm welcome to our UA-cam candle fam. I am curious which oil you are using -would you mind sharing that? Some oils can cause wax to discolor more easily than others depending on their chemical properties. Love and light always 💛🌱
@@earthglow Hello Allen, Than you for your reply. Here you are the fragrances I used so far : Salted butter caramel Sandalwood Coton flower However after searching for a while I heard about : UV inhibitor is used to help prevent the premature fading of coloured candles If the discoloration keep happening I might use it to be frank. I tried to hide my candle from IV light but I have no satisfaction. You have a lovely day. ❤️
@@carolevelmir2922 Are you coloring your candles? It you are not exposing them to light and you are getting yellowing then a UV stabilizer may not be what you need. Although I'm not sure if it may help with other issues like fragrances with vanillin content. That can often cause yellowing issues. I think Black Tie Barn did a video or two talking about the positive effects of using the stabilizer; he puts it in all his candles regardless of whether they are dyed.
@@AtomicElf1 hello, thank you for your kind reply. I am not using color to my candle. However, I am doing my best to keep them out of UV light but it’s not enough. Using oil which contains vanillin it’s something else. I would definitely try a natural stabiliser. Thanks again for your help.
Have you made a video with the tin candles yet? And is the coconut that you put in just pure coconut oil or is it coconut wax made just for candles? Sorry, I’m just looking into getting started on candle-making and I don’t wanna set my room on fire lol 😭
Hi there! Yes, I do share my recipe for tins (I’ll link the video where I share it below) but I do not recommend this as a starting point to a beginner. I’d recommend trying out well-known waxes that have lots of reviews and trouble-shooting before trying more unique formulas. I use coconut oil with a 76 degree meltpoint that I get from Soaper’s Choice specifically in my candles. Hope this helps! Love and light always.
@@earthglow Thank you! I have so many asthma/allergy problems that I’ve always tried to buy beeswax candles, but since I heard it’s best for pillar candles that’s why I was looking into some sort of beeswax/coconut mix… But I’ll def try not to get too experimental yet. 😂 Thanks for the help! 🤍
Hi Tim! I’ve got a whole video outlining my process for this but I am not as impressed by my tin formula of this blend due to its very low melt point for shipping purposes.
Ok. I watched the video for the blend in glass containers but in that video you said you used less bees wax in the tins. I just started making candles and right now I'm just making them for myself and friends so I wouldn't be shipping them
@@timfox5134 Hi Tim! My formula is in the description box of this video and is the same formula I used for the wholesale order being fulfilled with a CD 12 wick and 10% FO.
New sub here and so far I have binged 3 your videos this morning while at work lol Interesting blend of wax! I blend coconut & soy wax w/ a little bit of palm oil. The HT & CT is amazing, but the tops look like what my face would look like at the age of 85 =) Hitting it with a heat gun helps some, but it still has a few wrinkles. Thoughts on what I could blend to even the tops? Also, what are your thoughts on No. 7 (Soy Bliss) from 16/17?
Hi Alex! This sounds like a fantastic formula. I am delighted you found something that works excellently for you. Thank you for sharing. Love and light always 💛✨🌱
@@megane11222 It depends on the fragrance. I usually start at around 8%. And I'd never go beyond 10%. Sweet spot I'd say 9%. But I do tend to go lower if it's a heavy scent such as those with a lot of Vanilla in it, as it can be overpowering.
"Bee wax isn't vegan" meanwhile vegans eat eggs Disclaimer: im not really into the vegan thing but some vegans said to me a - "theres vegans who eat eggs. And I'm one of them. Sorry, but that person is confused. vegans do not eat eggs. We do not use or consume anything that involves exploitation of animals. Including back yard eggs. Your content is just Waw I learned so much !!!!! Thank you . One question which reference of coconut oil would you recommend there so many at soaper’s choice
Thank you. I have learned so much. The big thing I learned is that I really want to buy your candles. Where can I buy them.
Hi! Glad you enjoyed. Our candles are available on our website, earthglow.com. Hope you're able to try some!!
God bless you 👍!! Love your channel!! Just a gal making tarts for friends and a few sales! Greetings from Buffalo NY ❤️
I'm so glad you find these videos helpful Lauren!!
@@earthglow I’ve been wanting to try their booster wicks! ♥️ have a wonderful Sunday :)
May I ASK at what temp you suggest adding FO amd pour? At least to start testing?
for my blend here, i add oils between 180 and 190 (usually 185), stir for 2 minutes and pour around 145-155. A minimal two week cure is required with this wax.
you just make me so happy haha great energy
I’m so glad you enjoyed!
Love your explanation and experience with the whole thing ❤❤
Thank you so much!

Hi Lisette! Thank you for your comment!! How neat that you use your own blend too! Yes, I have heard Eco wicks are a great one for many wax types, including many natural waxes. Love and light always and a warm welcome to our UA-cam candle family 💛🌱
I enjoy your videos! You give us So much information. I wanted to ask you a question have you ever tried BW 917 soy, coconut and beeswax?
Thanks for your comment! I have not personally tried this wax. Sorry about that!
Thank you so much for this video, I've used this recipe however I'm getting rough tops after burning.
Hi there! I’m sorry to hear that and have not experienced this before. Have you purchased the three waxes from the suppliers I mentioned? Love and light always. 💛🌱
Hey thank you for sharing, I have a question what happens if you subtract the soy wax?
Hi there! For a beeswax and coconut oil I’d recommend 75% beeswax and 25% coconut oil.
Hi there! I'd recommend starting with Candlescience's and Makesy's wick guide. Love and light!
Do you use the same exact type of beeswax, soy wax, and coconut oil?
You are so helpful ❤Thank you so much!🕯️❤🕯️❤🕯️❤🕯️
Happy to help!
Do you use yellow or white bees wax?
can you share the link where you explain this formula for tin containers? Thanks for Sharing your knowledge
hi there! i haven't yet done this but hopefully soon. love and light!
Allen you’re amazing! I sent you a message through Patreon too. Can I use regular coconut oil instead of coconut 76 degree?
Hi Maddie!!! You can absolutely give it a try-it is solid at room temp, right? I believe I did reply on Patreon as well.. did they not send you a notification?
This is very educative, thank you
I make scented wax tablets, is it ok to mix soywax with paraffin wax for a hard tablet?
Yes, you absolutely can do this.
great videos!
Hi Allen, how to you decide the temperatures (pouring, adding fragrance, etc) when you mix waxes?
Great question. In this case, I went with the wax that dominated the blend, which is 464 soy.
@@earthglow Thankss!
I used that same one and the throw is not the best. I'm going for a parasite blend after many people have recommended it
Hi Alan, do you have an updated link for the beeswax? I would love to try your recipe and you noted to be sure to use all the items in your link. Please let me know. You are the best candle mentor. Love love your videos and so happy I found your channel. Where were you in 2020 when I started? 😀

aww you're so kind!
Hi Allen,
I am currently using GW 464 Soy Wax and topping off my 10 oz jar at 7.8 oz with a makesy wood wick.

Hi Marie! Thank you so much for your comment and a warm welcome to our UA-cam candle family. Love and light always 💛🌱
Great explanation. Thank you.
Hi there! I’ve got a whole video on this that you can watch. ua-cam.com/video/0vn32fue7lg/v-deo.html
Hope this helps!
@@earthglow I watched the video and understand but I guess I'm trying to figure out how you come up with the calculation to incorporate the beeswax and coconut oil along with the soy wax and fragrance.
Hello Allen,
Hope you well.

Hello Allen,
Than you for your reply.
Here you are the fragrances I used so far :
Salted butter caramel
Sandalwood
Coton flower
However after searching for a while I heard about :
UV inhibitor is used to help prevent the premature fading of coloured candles
If the discoloration keep happening I might use it to be frank.
I tried to hide my candle from IV light but I have no satisfaction.
You have a lovely day. ❤️
I meant UV light sorry

What is the percentages if you are using this blend in tin canisters instead of glass

Omg I was having so much trouble with 464 I try you blend it it work smooth top ht amazing the wooden wick burn’s beautiful thank u
464
Alan, I make my own blend as well using 464 and beeswax. Have you ever tested the addition of stearic acid?
Hi there! I have not yet tried this but have heard good things about it for increasing fragrance throw. Love and light!
New sub here and so far I have binged 3 your videos this morning while at work lol
Interesting blend of wax!
I blend coconut & soy wax w/ a little bit of palm oil. The HT & CT is amazing, but the tops look like what my face would look like at the age of 85 =)
Hitting it with a heat gun helps some, but it still has a few wrinkles.
Thoughts on what I could blend to even the tops?
Also, what are your thoughts on No. 7 (Soy Bliss) from 16/17?
I'd add a little SP487 personally! Anywhere from 5-25%!
That’s what I use 8 / 1 / 1 but I typically throw them all in the same Digiboil. Am I doing that wrong?
I am not sure what you mean--can you dumb it down for me?
Also, what is the permatex for?
Permatex is a type of very strong glue used to adhere candle wicks to the container.
Would this wax work with a cotton wick?
You absolutely could try it but I have not personally tested this exact blend with a cotton wick!
Thank you love all your videos

What is the cure time on this wax blend?
Minimum of 2 weeks for a developed hot throw.
Now I get why my soy wax sweats. It’s 100% pure soy.
Plus the scent throw isn’t throwing well at all.
Oh no!!! What percentage are you using? Looking for fragrances formulated to work well in soy wax is very helpful too

Glad you've found something that works well for you!!!
Thank you ❣️✨
You’re welcome 💛💛💛
You’re amazing
😊
I really think everyone getting the super rough tops are pouring too hot.
I’d agree that pouring a little cooler can help avoid these.
My secret candle wax formula:
50% 464 Soy
25% Palm wax (increases throw, stabilizes soy)
10% Coconut wax (Softens beeswax, better glass adhesion, also helps throw)
15% Beeswax (For that smooth top)
You're welcome 🤗
Hi Alex! This sounds like a fantastic formula. I am delighted you found something that works excellently for you. Thank you for sharing. Love and light always 💛✨🌱
What FO% do you use? If you don't mind. TIA 🥰
@@megane11222 It depends on the fragrance. I usually start at around 8%. And I'd never go beyond 10%. Sweet spot I'd say 9%. But I do tend to go lower if it's a heavy scent such as those with a lot of Vanilla in it, as it can be overpowering.
Where do you find palm wax
Hi! What sort of beeswax do you use? In its natural yellow form or whitened without any beeswax smell? 😊

So that person is a vegetarian, not vegan.
No vegan would ever use a beeswax candle.
