  • I built an N Scale waterslide this month, complete with two flumes, scummy splash pads, and corrugated steel fencing.

    Monthly diorama projects allow me to model a theme or tested technique that wouldn't necessarily fit well with the current layout. Such as the case with this month's build an abandoned water slide. I'm interested in abandoned amusement parks etc., and while I have seen a few HO scale fairground models, I've not seen anything for n scale, and I certainly haven't seen anything for a water park. So, I attempted to build a pair of water slides.
    The most challenging part of this build was the flumes. The individual slides twist and turn on top of himself, and I could not print them as a single piece with my PLA printer without complicated support structures. Therefore, I broke them into individual sections and reassembled them. In the video, I didn't include using a hairdryer to soften the slides and bend them to fit as they lost their original shape as part of the gluing process.
    I'm thrilled with this outcome, and I'm confident I will be attempting a roller coaster sometime soon. Stay tuned, and thanks for watching.

    Using the grooves on that screw on the foil to make the ridges on the corrugated steel fence was genius!

    That is just awesome! Yep it needs to be on the layout eventually. All I could think of was that it was very Pripyat-esque. Fantastic! You have got me rethinking my 1970 vintage Midwest layout ideas to be more 1980s Midwest rural abandon small town small industry based environment.

      The Ferris wheel in Pripyat is definitely on the list of things that would be cool to reproduce! As for the Midwest Rural town idea, there are so many excellent horror films set in that era that there would be endless inspiration. My favorite is Tremors. :)

    Will You, at some point, add those stand-alone dioramas to Your railroad layout? The ones from the 10x10 challenges are like little treasures :)
    Said it on instagram will repeat here: Awesome stuff all around and the creepy soundtrack just perfect ;) hope to see your channel grow!

      Thanks for the kind words. When I started my layout I had never considered details like a water park or other structures that I've been making for my dioramas. I'm going to continue working on my 30 odd structures, and strange little dioramas and I will eventually combine them on a bigger and more improved layout? We shall see. I'm not afraid to change things and so long as I'm having fun - I'm going to let the process dictate the outcome.

    Abandoned playgrounds any kind are the most depressing thing our cities can leave behind. the absencs of life in this build is quiet disturbing.

      Absolutely, yet, I find them really interesting. I love abandoned houses and towns.

    • @NScaleDystopia
      @NScaleDystopia  2 роки тому +3

      There is no home - yet. I've been doing these monthly diorama projects to try techniques and ideas I hadn't originally considered with the original layout. I am am seriously considering making some changes to the layout next spring and redesigning the footprint to include these sorts of things.

    Best piece…so far.
    What’s the white powder?
    The recess for the pools…was that an unusual hobby knife blade?

    • @NScaleDystopia
      @NScaleDystopia  2 роки тому +2

      The white powder is baking powder. It fuses really well with super glue to create an instant filler. As for the hobby knife, that is a standard exacto number 11 blade. Thanks!

    Hi, which program did you use to model the slides? (Sec 12)

    • @NScaleDystopia
      @NScaleDystopia  2 роки тому

      I figured out the initial dimensions using Adobe illustrator, and then I used rhino 3D to model the slides.
