THe blue romans had archers at the start back in Rome 1 original. You could recruit them as any roman faction from a level 2 ranged building
Can confirm as Julii, having exactly one archer unit at the beginning that I used nearly up in one battle and couldn't replenish for 30 turns as of now lol
literally the tier 2 ranged building allows you to recruit Roman archers (or archer auxilia post-marian), you can build it in your capital on turn 1 as every faction so you can recruit/replenish archers by turn 4.
Or just sail a general to crete and pick up the merc archers there, who are the best archers in the entire game.

The AI when it controls Elephants: Charges into my units causing massive carnage and death (even when they are panicking).
Me when I contro Elephants: Have them always panic immediatly and have them charge into my own units causing massive carnage.
God I love Rome: Total War

Elephants are best when you keep them behind your lines and use them as missile troops, battering rams, and morale breakers. Charging them into battle can work, but they’re a wild card at best.

they can annihilate entire armies of infantry if they charge from 1 unit to another. add some cav charges to the rear of those broken units, and u easily win.

Last time I was this early, EU4 was still a playable game
Instead of defeating the factions to unlock them, now you just need to achieve victory in one the roman campaigns and you will unlock all of the factions.

You don't even need to do that, you can press a button on the launcher to unlock them all
@@Bilbo-qq6ei Yup, but the fact of the matter that that is OPTIONAL is great, we can go oldschool and just do the classic method of seeing them destroyed in game.
I mean all you really had to do to unlock every faction in the original was open a certain txt doc and cut and paste some names from one list to another. Easiest bit of modding ever and I say that as a man who couldn't mod to save his life.
The devs have confirmed they want to increase the faction cap, which means that, because, modders can now add more settlements and make the map larger, this game is going to become a lot chonkier in a few months
The mods are already rolling in - got a great one downloaded that adds loads of extra settlements! The getting is good for RTW
Wait... _more_ settlements? Rome:Total War was already almost drowning in them. Barbarian Invasion halving their number made the game better.
@@roadent217 I think the problem was the settlements vs faction ratio.
Too many settlements were just rebels.
This game was like half of my early childhood.
This game (and the old Medieval total war) were pretty much my entire early childhood! Playing total war games for 15 years now XD

I am so happy this video got into my recommended, Rome total war was my favourite childhood game and I still play it to this day.
Archers were in the game. You had to build the Archery Range (upgraded Practice Range) to get them. It is Rome 2 that removed Roman Archers.
I unlocked Greek Cities and Macedon as Brutii when I wiped them out. Then when I won the short campaign, it unlocked everyone.
Imagine having to play the game to unlock stuff rather than buy DLC.
Now, I do remember many a game where the Brittons basically became the de facto barbarian faction and killing off the Gauls and Germans (that I didn't get to, depending on what faction I was playing), but this is the first time I've ever seen them became the Horde and push into Italy....

I really loved Rome and Medieval 2 TW but Empire will always be my favourite one.
It was so revolutionary and so refreshing for the saga.
Minor faction revenge was absolutely a needed mod.

One of the first grand strategy/RTS games that I played. I remember the sheer excitement over how advanced the game was.
Yes let's remaster the one of the most iconic games and fix none of the many problems, add nothing and downgrade the visuals.

i wouldn't hold your breath. there are just too many problems with the warscape engine that by the time all the major problems were ironed out they had removed naval battles, and army units couldn't decouple from their general unit on the campaign map.

Brutii is the genitive case in latin, which makes it like I wrote before, of "X thing". At least in my Latin clases in spanish, y don't how it works in english. Hope this helps you understand the thing.

The scipii campaign in one sentence:
You will fight elephants straight from the get go, then never encounter that species again
The Remastered AI is so much more aggressive in the early game and I love it. No longer are they leaving easily conquered and prosperous rebel cities for you to steal no problem and dooming their line. Actually means the early game can be somewhat challenging as Rome

Surprisingly there is a mod now for custom sea battles in this game.
You are wrong. The Scipii always started with a unit of archers in OG RTW, and Archers were recruitable
I'd been on the fence about buying the remaster, but I gotta say you've convinced me. This looks like everything I loved about the original and more. Also, youtube needs to get its eyes checked marking this as Rome 2 XD
If I remember correctly, madras or vindaloo was the cheat code to get elephants

Never played the remaster but I enjoyed playing the og one from 2004
Scoping were always my favorite faction. Gains was always harsh, and Publius was always crazy. I never once saw any barbarians beat another Roman faction or conquer Rome.
