How do you find the black levels on the Sony? I'm a little worried about that as opposed to the Epson 5050 as well as the HDR, being Sony only has 1500 lumens. Let me know how you're liking it, thanks.

So wait are you saying that the epson 5040ub is better than the jvc dla-x990? I was thinking about getting the jvc dla-x700r. it's so weird how you have a projector that's only $2,300.00 is better than a jvc projector that cost $7,000.00.
Not sure based on what assumptions they make it top :) obviously this is a completely wrong list from the AVS prospective.

Sony vw285es is superior to the optoma if you can afford it.....there is no comparison. The optoma is probably the better value if you’re on a budget. I’ve seen both and have read almost every review. The only caveat with the Sony is the brightness isn’t as strong. You’ll need a room where you can completely control the lighting. If your room is a dedicated home theater and dark like a movie theater, pull the trigger on the Sony.
NO COMPARISON?? The UHD 65 is extremely close to the 385ES, so your comment about the 285 is invalid my friend...and the Optoma never suffers from convergence either...😊😊

Kamil Bach the optoma would be a terrible projector for gaming not to mention it’s hdmi doesn’t support 18gbps.... Sony or jvc is the clear choice there

The Epson 5040 won't even accept a 4K 60fps signal, making it a no-go for any PS4 or Xbox One X user unless assessing serious limitations (like playing only in 2K HDR, never 4K). The UHD60 is really not as good as the UHD65, not even looking at laser options here with UHZ. You miss 2 Sony options also with big improvements over the 285. This is a poorly documented video recommendation afaik.

Optoma rated higher than Sony and JVC? That’s a joke, right?
Outdated video rename the topic, also you list here non native 4k older models of JVC, like X9900. Very doubt of best top 5, as the best 4k Laser projector in its price range is VW760ES/VW885ES and not this Short Throw SONY one. This Year the true 4k killer will be from JVC, N5, N7 and N9X, not laser but it kills any other projector completely.

Dislike, list for someone, who doesn't know projectors world. You are listing Pseudo 4k projectors like JVC X series, which has 1080p Native Panels.

The rest manufacturers, like Optoma, Epson - are not even close to those 5.
except there are not true 4k projectors on your best 5 epson 5040 is one that is not...4k is not todays standard.. 1080 is STILL .. there isn't a whole lot of 4k content you can stream or watch ...mean while they been selling 4k tvs and other devices for yrs now .. and we still aren't there as the standard as we are with HD1080P so all the 4k tvs and projectors, av receivers, blu rays that claim there 4k and 4k ready your still getting a 1080 picture from source that some projectors etc will 4K enhance that's is not true 4k.... they are manipulating a lesser 1080...and soon the market will see 8k tvs and projectors, av receivers, blu rays .. but no true shows or streaming or very little made in 8k just like we have in 4k format right now ..its all about $$$$
AG 1080 May still be the standard, but there is plenty of 2160p content available if you want to pay for it, can also game in 2160p if you have the gpu to run it. I’ve had a 4k tv since 2014 and just pre ordered the vpl-vw295es and will be loving every minute of it.
