@@Shellackleit technically isn't a rogue-like but a rogue-lite. Rogue-likes are games where you can't upgrade your character between runs while in Rogue-lites you can. So giving Mel the ability to upgrade her health, slow time while casting her Omega moves and death defiance, among other things, makes Hades 2 not a rogue-like.
Hestia makes sense as a granny. She is one the oldest gods period. She usually wears a shawl that covers her face and she is plain. She represents the home and hearth. She is also usually a virgin so I’m fine with this art. 🤷♂️
The game feels good if you can get the latency down to 1ms. Basically for AMD I thought enhanced with freesnc was enough but when you turn on the latency setting with both the game felt amazing.
The better you get at Hades 2, the more you learn you can play it REALLY fast just like Hades 1, but now you have a bunch of charge moves and not just one. The main thing I'd say could use a bit of adjustment is base damage. Unless you're stacking endless damage bonuses, you won't feel like you'r doing a lot of damage. But when you do build tons of damage, it feels even higher than Hades 1.
Practically every streamer I've seen that's playing this game doesn't bother reading like 10 words on their screen to understand what 6 very simple controls do and spend the next hour or so wondering what their moves are. Lmao.
"which ones is the axe?" ...takes him 10 seconds to register the word "axe", does not know a sheep from a goat, misreads half the boons and didn't notice that each cast shot two spells shile asking where his double cast buff was. Wow...dude, eats glue.
The boss fights in this game look sooo creative and fun! The Siren metal band looked so fun and the song was actually kind of dope. The comment about “are there men in this game” is funny but kind of lame this looks so dope and the characters are really interesting especially the character designs.
Its funny to me how people say that combat is much worse in Hades 2 because its slower. Easiest way to play H1 was to spam dash and be invincible almost all the time, you can't do that in the sequel and that alone makes the game much cooler. Spamming Athenas dash was such a braindead strat, I hated that
But this is slower not only because of the dash. Omega moves are obnoxiously slow for a melee build and half of all the boons rely on them, requiring you to disengage before using. Sprinting is also heavily incentivized but attacks cancel it. There are no enemies that punish ranged builds and many that reward it. They could get rid of dash spam without screwing up all the fight mechanics.
among that there is also an hermes boon that gives you a 1 hit absorption every time you sprint with no cooldown, some balance changes are clearly needed
@@RomeoTheOptimist agreed ranged combat is too safe. Especially when you use cast to slow down enemies, I hope they will balance it somehow, but I am not sure some rougelikes just suffer from ranged combat being too strong.
It's amazing and I love it. The only issue I can think of that bothers me is how similarish all the boons feel. In the 1st game for example for casts basically every single one of them was different depending on which god you picked which made it really fun messing around with different stuff, as for Hades 2 you dont have as much options. Then again the game is in early access and I feel like we can place good faith on Super Giant on making the game even more amazing
@uhuuehu7863 so is the video game industry. Its currently fucked atm yet no one wants to believe or accept it. But thats fine. A good game like Hades 2 doesn't count as a job well done either I guess

This is why Asmon loves Vampire Survivors style games so much, at some point you don't even need to play to win. To be fair his mind is mostly occupied with generating content, with only 30-40% of the focus being on the game. But then maybe it's just an excuse, we don't get vogs of him playing games off stream.
Cronos is very punishing, and I'm pretty sure the devs deliberately ramped up his numbers because he's basically the end of the current content. If you keep throwing yourself at him you'll eventually get his patterns down. If you're having trouble making sense of his attacks in phase 2, I recommend looking up a video of someone else doing it so you can get a better idea of where it wants you to stand.
I swear if in this whole video he doesn't realize that he's got other attacks than just that main one I'm gonna lose my mind. Somebody PLEASE tell me if he ever starts using the damn cast?? @pffboahkeineahnung what?! Greek mythology is the very reason i even got the first game. Just make sure you play it without ever interacting with any characters you dont have to now.
@@domL2507 it is based on greek mythology where there is a simple and accurate description of her. granny isnt one of them. last time i checked this game is heavily relying on its myth and defintely not just based on them it is them.
Many people don't appreciate Greek mythology, even though our culture is based on it ... - the girl "Europe" was named after the European continent [Zeus kidnapped her and named the continent after her] - Arachne was a fantastic "weaver" - a great goddess was so jealous of her that she turned her into a spider [hence the words "arachnophobia"/"arachnids" etc.] - Kronos/Chronos is the god of time, from which words such as "chronological", "chronometer" [clock], etc. emerged - The word "aphrodisiac" is of course named after the goddess of love "Aphrodite" - and so forth ... - if you hate Greek mythology, you hate our culture, nothing more and nothing less ... The Romans "stole" Greek mythology, they called Aphrodite "Venus", they called Heracles "Hercules" They called the god of war Ares "Mars" [after our month "March" is named] The season goddess “Demeter” gave rise to names like “Dimitry” The Greeks' "holy olive oil" gave rise to names like "Oliver/Olivia" The Greek god "Oceanus" gave his name to the eng. word "Ocean" / german "Ozean" - In Greek mythology, narcissism was a self-lover who looked into his reflection until he drowned... - nymph "ECHO" - "an echo (also called reverberation) occurs when reflections of a sound wave are delayed so much that they can be perceived as a separate auditory event; This is how the echo differs from the reverberation" [Wikipedia] - The Earth Titan "Gaia" gave her name to words like "geopolicits" and all other words that start with the prefix "Geo-" - words like "museum"/"music" come from the daughters of Zeus, the MUSES [Goddesses of the Arts] ... - the word "telephone" is made up of the 2 Greek words - Greek "Tele" [far] + Greek "phone" [voice/sound] ... I don't like Asmongold because he knows full well that his followers are from the right-wing spectrum ["Why are we playing a woman here, I liked Zagreus so much!" / "Remember, a woman is a woman, if she's fat..."] But I still like him somewhere... Shame on me! [because SOMETIMES he is right] ... x)

Some weapons better on M&K, and some bettter on Controller. oh look, balance that has some awareness of their player base. Holy shit. Love Hades I and II already
I looked into the assets used in HADES (1) not that long ago and was blown away by how all character animations are actually BINK files. That's a format typically used for splash screens and cutscenes/cinematics, ability demonstrations, etc. I've never seen any other game use BINK files in this way. I wont be playing II - as I'm still salty about the grindfest involved in obtaining all of those contractor upgrades 😋
Why is the highlighted comment section of every video i open now filled with trash like "4 views fell off" and "x number of likes and I y". Feels like im scrolling down a teenagers facebook timeline from 2010 🙄
Gotta dance for those ESG bucks. It's like a clown dancing for spare change on the street. I actually feel sorry for the small company having to beg like this.
I always find it amusing when no one questions why the main character was a male, but if it's a female we "don't know why they made her a female". Maybe the same reason the first game had a male, they just decided it was cool. There are two sexes so why tf not, as long as the gameplay is good who cares.
Transistor, they changed the main character around in development from the guy to the girl. It just worked for what they were doing. It wasn't "woke", because it wasn't forced. Same here. They haven't done it because the ESG told them or because Sweet Baby Inc said they had to. They did it because they wanted to. It's only because of recent controversies in the movie/tv/videogame industry that people are talking about, that they raise eyebrows. Guess people have forgot that just cause it's a female protagonist, doesn't mean it's bad. If it's well written, then it's well written.
Zagreus always had snappy responses. Melinoë is just talking about girl and witch stuff all the time. Zagreus always had the funniest, snarky one liners. Mel isn't a bad character, but I think that Zagreus is way funnier and more interesting. She's just a girl struggling. The ghost girl (Mel's friend in camp) is kinda funny though. Because it's a mix of Zagreus and Meg from the last game. Als you know I want that Ghussy.
well she is bland, I would say uninteresting and too perfect. Also, the story is not even close to the first one. Child wanting to see his mom one more time even for just few seconds, to the point he went through hell again and again and again. In this, strong sister will fight and beat final boss to save her father and brother who somehow got caught. Doesn't draw any emotion from me. I felt the weight of Zagreus failing, how he comes out of blood river all tired, goes through his working father who throws him few remarks and gets back to work while Orpheus sings all depressed in the background. Not to mention the brutal death animation, that is not present in this one for some reason. The hub itself felt vibrant and full of story.
@@joemama-mu1dd daaamn they're firing shots on themselves? I haven't played for that many hours. But I'm guessing I've met most of the major cast. I decided to go back to the first Hades game a bit and see what I missed (not 100% completed)

I like it but damn it feels like once you play through it once, theres really nothing to do. PvP is slow and even living center map with every plot around us taken, we never see anyone. The whole 80% of servers only allowing raids on weekends or certain hours is dumb af. & the entire set of bosses are just dumb. its essentially just a PvE game, and the PvE is so mid theres not really any reason to keep grinding. You realize that really quickly on, and Asmon wouldnt like it after the 2nd or 3rd dumb boss.
Bruh, after many many attempts with different builds I saw this right-click spam and tried it. One-shoted the main boss losing only 50 hp, not using any resourses. Asmon probably have some spydey sense for broken-ass builds.
Hades 1 was better, but it also has the benefit of me not hearing about and playing it until the full release. The gameplay is slower, but it makes sense when we're playing a witch-type character instead of whatever Zagreus was (think mid-range vs. Frontliner) My literl only complaints are with the splash of DEI but it doesn't make the game itself worse to me, only makes me worry for what might be put in closer to full release. As it is now, with the character designs being the only noticable marker of DEI I'm sure a sprite mod would solve that easily. ~8/10 as it is, hopefully it doesnt fall later.
I’m sorry but do you see DEI under your bed? The game is the same as the first, character wise. Supergiant is a woke af dev. They don’t need any DEI consultants. This is not a bad thing. You can be woke and make great games. The main character of Hades is bisexual. Did you close you eyes and scream everytime he talked to Than? It’s ok bud. Seeing a black, brown, or gay character won’t hurt you. Especially if you played the first game like you said you did.
@fy4b230 I'm struggling to know what about my comment upsets you. It's literally me saying they are a DEI company, but the game isn't made worse for it. 10/10 "phobia-flip", I don't have to be afraid of or hate something to acknowledge a Black Greek God with vitiligo is weird. But I guess this is a world where you have to love everything about something to mention it or else risk being told you're overreacting... Certainly, none of this will hurt anyone, but the first mod I can find that brings the design more in line with a Greek aesthetic will be an instant download for me. As a Black person it's so off-putting that other cultural settings have us shoehorned into media based upon them. But I'm not the one making a big deal, so why am I explaining to the typical phobia-assigner... 🙄 Edit:seriously, where do you make the leap from "I don't like some of the character designs" to "I somehow missed that Than and Zag had a route"? I'm baffled and forgot to ask...
@@williamgray9088 didn’t call you a “phobe”. Seemed like you had a complaint of the “DEI” in hades 2. I was telling you there was no DEI. Supergiant chose those characters. Not some consultant group. That’s how they made the first game as well. They didn’t check boxes, they didn’t pander, they just made great art with a great story and used their knowledge of Greek mythology as the skeleton. My apologies about the jump to than and zag, however the majority of complaints I’ve read about character designs, that include DEI, also have problems with that aspect of the game. And I’m sorry, but downloading a mod to change skin color is weird dude. Do you though. Edit: and with that said..do they have a mod to change skin color for the first game? Honestly blows my mind that people would actually put time into doing that.
@fy4b230 I guess we both had some level of misunderstanding then. When people jump to gay or bi, they often follow with an insinuated or direct "you're a phobe," and I'm used to the dysfunction. I use DEI to refer to the namesakes of that acronym, none of which are dependent on a third party making the call. I said a splash because this is certainly on the light side of that spectrum. But tbh my issue isn't even solely that Hestia is Black, or else I'd have had the same issue with Hecate or with Hermes being Asian. It's that of all things they turned her into Madea. Probably just me, but I'd rather opt out of that. Like I said, the game isn't hurt by it but it puts me off. May be weird, but we live in a world where BG3 had both straight character mods and people so upset they would ban such mods in a single-player game, so it could be far weirder. People like what they like, and don't what they don't 🤷🏿♂️ And no, to my knowledge, this wasn't a thing for the first one. But I didn't look since none were unappealing to that extent for me.
it kind does though, Hades had great characters. Hades 2 main character is bland and perfect in every way. After playing Hades for 100+ hours, tired Hades 2 and refunded it ... The main character was just bland. Too perfect, too pure, to honest. Not even close to Zagreus, who was this rebellious child wanting to see his mother once more. In this you're just superman physically and mentally. The combat is an outright downgrade, Hades was faster gameplay, while that ended up being an addictive run when you unlock harder map. Now the other thing I really hated here was how there is a lot of progression currency to get. Sounds good, but all it does it take space for room rewards. Instead of feeling the build by getting power ups every few rooms, now you get 1 power up in like 4 rooms. Some enemies just demand you to use the spell that stuns, literally limiting your way to play. The constant yelling of the main character after every attack becomes a noise. Now of course it is divisive politically, but I didn't mind that in Hades 1 when the gameplay was so fun. Here I felt like the starter weapon was just not fun. The character I controlled was not interesting, the music wasn't new/just a lamer remixes of original ones, the story is nowhere near as compelling as in Hades 1. Compare the story of kid going through hell just to see his mom for few seconds, doing so again and again and again. Compare that to this, a strong sister going to kill a god to save Hades and Zegreus who somehow got caught. Where is the cool story in that, a hero with no struggle saves the day and proves to everyone how strong she is. Boring. Then the main hub, it felt so vibrant in Hades 1, every time I died and swam from that blood river all tired, went next to my father Hades who was so focused on his work and just told me few remarks, while Orpheus sang in the background all depressed. Even the death animation was really brutal and cool. Here you don't even get that brutal death animation, and you don't come out from blood river, you just reanimate. I haven't found a single aspect that was anywhere near as good as it was in Hades 1. I don't think this is a bad game, not at all. But, it doesn't do itself any favors by naming itself Hades 2. In the end, it's a decent rogue lite. While Hades 1 is a masterpiece. Not going to lie, after I refund it, I reinstalled Hades 1 to replay it from the start. Hades 1 is so good, if you want to play something similar, just to play the same game twice. It is still as good, and replay ability is insane. After reading the good reviews, I felt disappointed. I know Hades 1 is a high standard to follow, but this wasn't even good, it was just okay at best.

i already have like 50 hours in this game. it fucking slaps. chronos is a god tier boss, literally

@@RomeoTheOptimistyou don’t need to disengage to use charge moves when they all slow down time dramatically lol
among that there is also an hermes boon that gives you a 1 hit absorption every time you sprint with no cooldown, some balance changes are clearly needed

This is why Asmon loves Vampire Survivors style games so much, at some point you don't even need to play to win. I do feel like Hades 2 is a bit harder than 1. I enjoyed what there is so far though.
It’s a lot more methodical that’s for sure. Chronos also definitely hits like a truck compared to Hades.
It's harder, but there's more grinding for progression and just more progression in general.
I cant beat chronos, best ive done is 40% phase 2 :(
Its because there is way more progression. Also prob forget how much hades fucked everyone in the beginning.

GAME OF THE YEAR no question!
Many people don't appreciate Greek mythology, even though our culture is based on it ...
- the girl "Europe" was named after the European continent [Zeus kidnapped her and named the continent after her]
- Arachne was a fantastic "weaver" - a great goddess was so jealous of her that she turned her into a spider [hence the words "arachnophobia"/"arachnids" etc.]
- Kronos/Chronos is the god of time, from which words such as "chronological", "chronometer" [clock], etc. emerged
- The word "aphrodisiac" is of course named after the goddess of love "Aphrodite"
- and so forth ...
- if you hate Greek mythology, you hate our culture, nothing more and nothing less ...
The Romans "stole" Greek mythology, they called Aphrodite "Venus", they called Heracles "Hercules"
They called the god of war Ares "Mars" [after our month "March" is named]
The season goddess “Demeter” gave rise to names like “Dimitry”
The Greeks' "holy olive oil" gave rise to names like "Oliver/Olivia"
The Greek god "Oceanus" gave his name to the eng. word "Ocean" / german "Ozean"
- In Greek mythology, narcissism was a self-lover who looked into his reflection until he drowned...
- nymph "ECHO" - "an echo (also called reverberation) occurs when reflections of a sound wave are delayed so much that they can be perceived as a separate auditory event; This is how the echo differs from the reverberation" [Wikipedia]
- The Earth Titan "Gaia" gave her name to words like "geopolicits" and all other words that start with the prefix "Geo-"
- words like "museum"/"music" come from the daughters of Zeus, the MUSES [Goddesses of the Arts] ...
- the word "telephone" is made up of the 2 Greek words - Greek "Tele" [far] + Greek "phone" [voice/sound] ...
I don't like Asmongold because he knows full well that his followers are from the right-wing spectrum ["Why are we playing a woman here, I liked Zagreus so much!" / "Remember, a woman is a woman, if she's fat..."]
But I still like him somewhere... Shame on me! [because SOMETIMES he is right] ... x)

I always find it amusing when no one questions why the main character was a male, but if it's a female we "don't know why they made her a female".

I think it makes sense though considering their uprisings, but at least we have the ghost girl
well she is bland, I would say uninteresting and too perfect.

You realize that really quickly on, and Asmon wouldnt like it after the 2nd or 3rd dumb boss.
looks like an extremely unsatisfying game-play loop
Bruh, after many many attempts with different builds I saw this right-click spam and tried it. One-shoted the main boss losing only 50 hp, not using any resourses. Asmon probably have some spydey sense for broken-ass builds.
Hades 1 was better, but it also has the benefit of me not hearing about and playing it until the full release. The gameplay is slower, but it makes sense when we're playing a witch-type character instead of whatever Zagreus was (think mid-range vs. Frontliner)
My literl only complaints are with the splash of DEI but it doesn't make the game itself worse to me, only makes me worry for what might be put in closer to full release.
Edit:seriously, where do you make the leap from "I don't like some of the character designs" to "I somehow missed that Than and Zag had a route"?
People like what they like, and don't what they don't 🤷🏿♂️
And no, to my knowledge, this wasn't a thing for the first one.
