Right now I have the Gopro Hero, which is the simplest version in the Gopro line, but when I get a more advanced Gopro I'll use your settings for sure! Thanks so much for putting all that work into this video, it was really helpful

    Thank you for all the great comments! I know a lot of you want to know some tips on color correction, I would like to do another video on that, I'm not sure when I can do it. But in the meantime let me tell you some basic things while working with NATIVE White Balance: First I increase the SATURATION to about 1.80 (if 1.00 is the default), or 180% (if 100% is the default) you can fiddle with that as you like. I also use the MIDTONE color wheels to adjust the color so that it looks properly white balanced, I find that working with midtones is better than adjusting the overall color wheel. Those are the basic main ways I color correct. There may be a few other things I might want to tweak like add a bit of warmth or coolness with the color temperature slider. And then I would usually add some contrast with curves.

    I cannot imagine the amount of work and time you put into this. I would like to let you know that the effort shows. I watched it from start to finish (with two 1.5 minute breaks). The depth is incredible and the detail is stunning. One could even say that in a few places the depth is overdone or possibly repetitive even. But I must say this, you know what makes a truly great teacher? The ability to teach to the depth of your best student when needed yet teach at the speed of your slowest student when needed. And you have most certainly done that Jordan. Thank you so much. Well done, thanks for the amazing videos and keep up the great work!

    Awesome dude, been struggling with over exposure since using protune and motion blur has been a pain, didn't even think 60fps would sort it out - I thought it would make it worse by taking more pics.

    Hey Jordan, one year on and this is still relevant, thanks so much for putting this video together. I’m a professional photographer and videographer and it all makes perfect sense the way you control the shutter speed with fps and exposure compensation.

    What bit rate do you render in for youtube? - I assume you change it according to what you record in.
    When riding I typically use 1080 superview 60fps. UA-cams compression leaves pixels, I've tried multiple bit rates but all end up with pixels.
    Thanks

    • @JordanBoostmaster
      @JordanBoostmaster  8 років тому

      Ya I know UA-cam still compresses everything anyway, but for 1080 60 fps video, I export it at about 25 mbps

    • @ArcticPride1

      The "pixels" are generally from bitrate starving, best way I've seen to compensate is just uploading at higher quality.

    • @GoProTrailRiderRC
      @GoProTrailRiderRC 8 років тому

      Arctic Pride I render 45mbps which is nearly exactly the same as the raw file. I've tried increasing and decreasing it an neither have worked or made a big difference. I've even tried youtubes recommended render settings.

    Hi Jordan, This was a really interesting video for me. I am a 68 year old man with a fair amount a knowledge about still photography. I do a lot of road cycling and use a GoPro to record footage of our rides in the mountains. I really didn't have a good understanding for what the various GoPro settings did and how they related to the "still photo" concepts (f-stop, shutter speed, ASA, etc.) that I did understand. Also, the frame rate settings were somewhat of a mystery to me (in terms of getting the optimal images for cycling). Your video really helped me to begin to make more sense of how to use these settings to get the results that I want.
    It was obvious from the video that you had invested a lot of thought and time in putting it together. It was very organized and relatively easy to understand. Great job and thank you!!

    Jordan, this was absolutely an awesome video ! I just got a GoPro 4, that I purchased from my son. I have more knowledge of still photography, so at 65 years old, this is a new beginning for me, but I love a challenge ! I can tell that you have a good knowledge of the F-stops, aperture and ISO, and how they interact with each other. Thank you so much for sharing, your increase of knowledge will constantly improve the desire to explore new ways of creating different ideas to invent new ways of capturing the world in which we live.

    Just finished watching. Really good and well explained, it was really helpful. The best guide to understand how to use GoPro with all its feature and how they are correlated: now I know how to better use my GoPro, get better result and, thanks to you, correct some of the imperfections I noticed in my shots.

    Briefly watched some other "Tune your GoPro" videos here.. And still the best to this date!
    With all the examples and comparisons, this is what it means to care about your audience!

    Jordan, This is very helpful. I am so glad that it appeared before I went on my first GoPro safari. I just got my first GoPro, the 5, four days before the trip and have had to learn everything I can as fast as possible. I probably would been a long time in figuring out much of what you have found to be the best settings for the most appealing and realistic images. And thanks for giving here, in your comments, how you do the color correct. I will be working on that next. Yeee-ha, almost ready to go!

    good breakdown of the what and why of settings. Especially helpful knowing that flat only impacts the shadows and that - exposure compensation increases shutter speed. But to be honest my favorite part is when you stabbed your front wheel between the two trees! Been there done that!
    Thanks so much

    I just picked up a Hero4 Black used to get riding footage with. It seems that even with the new cameras, the established channels are still choosing the 4 black as the better option due to the Mic and cost. Thank you for the tutorial.

    My biggest frustration with the GoPro was the dynamic range. Your -1 Ev comp was brilliant - thanks!

    I'm so glad I found this video! I was having a lot of problems with my GoPro footage just not looking at all how I wanted it to. But using your settings (as well as learning what each one is so I can adjust to what I need for the situation) it looks great!

    Wow, great video! Excellent in-depth detail of the settings and capabilities of these little gems. I highly recommend this video for anyone who wants to get the most out of their GoPro. Though this information is geared towards the GoPro, much of these settings (e.g. ISO, shutter speed, exposure compensation, frame rate, etc.) are cross platform and relate to all cameras. Best GoPro video I've ever seen!
