Yup, they're there. You just have to put them together, which is fair. I think it's a bit unfair to say not wanting swastikas is "ridiculously sensetive" Especially in Germany. You can understand why they might not appreciate nazi imagery.
There was a time in Germany you can use the swastikas in Germany, then we get the green Party , and some other Dumb Idiots , and all the Kit Manufactures have to travel around Germany visiting every Modelshop open the Kit boxes and blacken out every Nazi Symbol in every Kit . like Skull from the Skull division ,or the Palm Tree and so on.You know this when you have a Kit ,painting and marking an unknown Division
We have some pretty fucked up leftists in Germany who think, if you see a swastika then you instantly run to your basement, get grandpas old steelhelmet and then start parading down the streets with the right arm raised high while singing the old songs. Not to forget at the same time you also make the trains ready...did I say that it is fucked up!? :D
if you ever want to build another bismarck (because having an army of bismarcks is fun) you should take the revell, i made that one and it was actually very good
The Revell Kit is the best for a Bismarck in 350 scale , The Tamiya Kit is more than 40 Years old first delivered with E- Motors , it was more a Toy but was the best at its time, because it was nearly the only one you get Hands on. Today it is an upgraded Kit still worth to build.
You, Sir, are the perfect antidote to the rivet counters on the ship modelling forums! Subbed in hope you will ever paint it and for good fun. (the gaps just need a bit of white glue on a brush. maybe somethinned down miliput. You'll figure it out, I'm sure)
I've seen primer with micro filler maybe that would also work on some of the gaps. I will eventually paint it because it can't be that hard. I'll be excluding the white and black stripes. Also I like being the antidote to rivet counters haha.
A really great video ! I've really enjoyed watching because you don't see many builds of 1/700 scale ships. I prefer ships in 1/350 or 1/144 scale myself but you've really done an outstanding job.
I'm pretty sure you don't have to glue AA and secondary guns. They go inside the mount and have the "wrist" action, so you can move them once the ship is assembled.
Yes those protrusions on the gun turrets are optical range finders. The reason turret one, or Anton did not have one, it sat too low on the deck for a optical range finder to be effective.
All through I felt you were being hypercritical. Remember, you have made the Airfix Bismarck, and as a result this model is a dream build. I still have a piece of sprue in one of my Bismarck (Airfix) turrets, replacing the warped gun that came with the kit. The best Bismarck I have made is the Tamiya 1/350. Unquestionable perfection.
I agree. The tamiya Bismarck is missing details, but it has almost perfect parts and the fit is just outstanding. I have been building the tirpitz, but its mostly the same. Its nice build and working with it is very satisfying.
The things on the side of the main batteries are called range finders, you can find them on many ships of that area that were battleships and some light to heavy cruisers
I'm about to start the 1:600 scale Bismarck by Airfix. I've heard some bad reviews on it so wish me luck. lol I haven't built a model in 15 maybe even 20 years. Oh boy.🙄
Have you ever tried the glue Tamiya Extra Thin? It should help with the gaps as it works on capillary action and flows along the joint between two parts. I've fully converted from Revell Contacta and haven't looked back
Ah yes the Tamiya orange cap is closer to Revell Contacta in consistency and usage. If you try Tamiya Extra Thin there's a slight learning curve as you dry fit the parts first and then apply the glue to the joint...
That model looks great. If you want an easier model try the Dragon 1/700 Scale Bismarck. While some of the smaller parts may be an issue many of the superstructure pieces are molded as one requiring less glueing.Things like the rear mast are molded as one solving some headaches.
The things you are calling radar are gun directors. they are used to estimate range then relay the information to the turrets. also you now kinda need to do an HMS Hood
I had a suspicion that was what they might be. I guess I do kind of need to make an HMS Hood. A Prinz Eugen and whatever the other British ship was that was there too. I will have to keep a look out for at least one of them.
Herbert Erpaderp - Are you using the Revell Contact Cement? I bought something that looked very similar and found it was just like the Cement from the old tubes. That stuff IMO is CRAP! It's really handy to use, but that's about all it's good for. I'd very much suggest you use a plastic solvent cement. 2 brands I use and love are Tamiya's Extra Thin & Plastruct's Plastic Weld. You can find the Plastic Weld at any train hobby shop and if it's a good one the Tamiya. These will do a world of wonders as they actually bond(melt) the 2 pieces of plastic together, where as the Revell glue is just glue and that might be why you are having such a hard time with those gaps. I hope this helps! IMO the Plastic Weld is best for the big parts as it hardens slower, but stronger. The Tamiya is great for the little pieces, dries quick and very good hold.
Hi herbert, i suggest you build the Airfix Tiger 1 in 1:76 scale , the Molds for this Model is from 1964 . This Model is still available to this Time. It make good comparison to the Kits today , but when i see the Italeri Kits for wargaming and the other Brands i think it still better than these builds. Congrats to your build Videos , there are very informative knowing what awaits you when you want to build them, what was common when i start to build Model Kits there was much more effort to put in the build to make a nice Model, without the uge Information you get today.
I've built that tiger a long while ago. I can't agree with it being better than Italeri's kits or any wargaming kit. Maybe you've had better luck with it, but the one I have isn't particularly good.
You should get like a merchant ship and put flames of war tanks on it im pretty sure the u.s sold tanks to the uk it could be like that idk its what i would do
Trumpeter is asking between $80-$100 for some of it's newer 1/700 kits. 8-0 I mean, they're okay detail-wise, but that price is bloody insane for the scale.
Gosh they are bad gaps, and a multi piece deck, more putty, I have this kit in my stash, might give it to my grandson. Anyway, good review mate, thanks. Oh, BTW, those 2 tiny ring things, on Tirpitz, those areas had torpedo tubes mounted.
Don't be so afraid of painting- it adds so much to a model and you don't have to copy it exactly. Spray the superstructure separately from the hull, then spray the deck from above, then glue the superstructure on?
You're assuming fear of painting when none exists and you're simplifying the painting process a little. I'm going to paint it all grey (and some kind of wood deck colour) because doing the black and white stripes on the superstructure seems like more effort than it's worth, but there's still going to be a lot of bits and pieces to highlight etc which is time consuming. I'm not going to paint it right away because I have a lot of other things that need to be done first.
Herbert Erpaderp Well in that case it would probably be worth finding a colour chart for Bismarck and buying the specific colours in Tamiya acrylic or something. Forgive me for thinking you weren't going to paint it for other reasons.
The things you are calling radar are stereoscopic range finder gun sights , the guns could be aimed at the threat or from the top of the ship, it's like the old cameras rangefinder a split image you line up the top and the bottom
nice work! i am confused with the main turrets, they seem to be 8 on the sprues, 4 halves? but i dont see you glue the halvs together, its a chance they are 8 turrets of main guns? i would love to if there are 4 spare turrets on a scratch build project!
ohh.. that is detailed!! most of the flaws and mistakes just vanish in the mass off detail. The only ship i've ever built was a big Titanic (i built with my granddad when i was only 11, i still have the model.. in memory of my granddad) seeing this bismarck kinda makes me want to build another ship.. since it looks awesome.. the sheer amount of tiny parts that can easily break or ping across the room is more than a little intimidating but still... maybe i'll get a U-boat.. those are neat.. Have you ever built a U-boat? if so, which one? BTW i think most of the ''radar things'' and some of the ''t-shaped things'' are range finders
I am considering buying a Bismarck model kit. But do you recommend 1:350 or 1:700? I struggle with very tiny parts which is why I prefer the 350. But ofcourse it's more expensive and I want to know if it's worth it. And if it is, which brand do you recommend? I saw a Revell (1:350) for around $85, but is the quality good?
I don't really have much of a preference. This is the only ship I've built in years, so I can't really make recommendations. I think 1:350 scale would be a pretty big ship, so it would make sense it'd cost more and the tiny parts like guns might not be that fiddly in a larger scale. I guess you could google some reviews on the particular kit. If it's awful I'm sure someone's mentioned it. Having no experience with it I couldn't tell you it's worth it.
Herbert Erpaderp Im sorry to gove my opinion here mate... I have built the 1/350 Bismarck on my channel.here 4 years ago and i loved it! I ve ordered this same.kit 1 700 online with the Full PE set and im building it... regarding the 1 350 Revell i loved it! Great video and well narrated... very good video
Hello, Thank you for Building the Bismarck the way it was meant to be with narration! Not that stupid way people are trying to do. Sincerely Allan
The Bismarck-class battleships were, IMO, two of the most clean, graceful, and beautiful warships ever built. Too bad they served such an awful regime....
First of all, I mean no offense but would like to offer some constructive criticism. I sat quite uncomfortably through most of you video until I felt I should mention something. Most irritating, to me at least, was that you repeatedly admitted not knowing specific ship parts terminology and how they might to used. That's not cool, as you demean both yourself and your efforts. Ask yourself, why would anyone want to take your video seriously given its pretty evident that you did zero research on naval ships in general, and on the Bismark specifically, and made yourself look a bit foolish in my opinion. You sound like a pretty smart guy Herbert, so may I suggest that you do a little homework and come back and redo this video. Your efforts will reflect better upon your work my friend. Just sayin...
I'm not really concerned if you take me seriously or not, tbh. I don't have time to sit around doing research to appeal to tedious folks on the internet for no return. I'm just going to continue enjoying my hobby how I see fit.

The 'protrusions' on the side of the turrets are sort of sights. They use triangulation to aim the guns.
The rails are actually catapults. They do look differently from the american ship catapults but have the same function.

think all those gaps will be noticable when painted

Have you checked out the Revell 1/1800 ships? They're tiny compared to this one, and slightly less fiddly!
It's funny that the fiddliness goes down the smaller the ship gets. I will have to check some out though. Might make nice desk ornaments at that size.
