- Venice, Los Angeles - April 4, 2024: A cleanup operation targeting a homeless encampment was conducted on Brooks Court in Venice on Thursday, as part of the city's efforts to address homelessness and maintain public cleanliness.
This initiative marks a collaborative effort between the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works and Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., underscoring the city's dedication to tackling homelessness and keeping public areas clean and safe.
Throughout the operation, workers adhered to strict safety protocols, equipped with protective hazardous materials suits to ensure a thorough and safe cleanup process.
The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) also participated, providing vital outreach, referrals, and services to those impacted. This support aimed to offer resources and assistance to the homeless community during the cleanup.
Los Angeles Police Officers were on-site throughout the operation, ensuring that the cleanup was conducted in compliance with regulations and in a manner that safeguarded both the sanitation workers and the community. I hike, backpack and bikepack. I know what I need and how to travel light and efficient, so I am always amazed at the amount of useless, bulky, stuff they have! They must find some sort of comfort in their hoarding. Living on the street I would take comfort in being able to quickly pull up stakes and move with minimal fuss or notice.
There is a major difference between packing light for a trip and situations like this and it not just being homeless, alot of these people are addicted to hard drugs etc, so what I'm saying is they are not in thier right minds and are incapable of making good choices which is why they often refuse help to get off the streets and off drugs, they simply cannot control it, and can be a danger to themselves, which is why some cities are starting to consider reopening up the old state run mental hospitals.
I agree, if they had the capacity to make a proper camp or travel by foot or bike in an effective manner they would have the capability to not be homeless. Finland has bought back a form of the old poor farm system. Some people cannot take care of themselves.
The first time I have seen aggravation from law enforcement towards you Fabian. Maybe she is just having a bad day or she is frustrated about being kept accountable?
Not sure where this is, but looks like private property. Homeless individuals should only have what they can carry on themselves. We have a homeless lady in our area who travels with a cart so full, she can barely move it.
