  • Creating a drill-down map in Tableau used to be more challenging than it needed to be.
    But now, with the dynamic zone visibility, we can create a map drill down in just a couple of simple steps.

    Hi Andy,
    Its a great demo. When I use selection tools in maps(radial, rectangular, lasso) the parameters are set to blank. It works well without touching the selection tools.

    Thank you for posting. Really incredible, easy to follow walk through.
    For me, worksheet swapping only worked if it was in a vertical container. After troubleshooting for way too long, this seemed to be my issue.

    Hi Andy ,
    Your videos are very much knowledgeable.
    You have build many dashboards and published into tableau server . Can you please build a dashboard to monitor the health check of each dashboard in tableau server. If it down it should show red color missing values it should show some other color if it is running fine than green like wise .

    Hello Andy! Amazing UA-cam Channel! It's been helping me a lot. I have a question for you. In my case-scenario I have the World Map (data per country) that drills down to data per state when I click in some country. I would like this country to appear, when clicked, bigger and in the center of the screen. How can I accomplish that?

    Hello Andy. Great visualization. In fact in one of my assignments, i created a map drill down dashboard where I did a 3 level drill down - continent then country then state and at each level i was showing two measures. initially i used minimum data and the dashboard was performing well. Later when I introduced the whole dataset, performance drastically changed. Somehow I was able to bring the performance up a little but not too much. My design was a little different than yours. I will reapproach using this technique.

      The calculations need to be adjusted for 3 levels. Would it help if I created a video next week?

    thanks for the great video and i am able to implement the same on my dashboard, just 1 doubt when i click on some blank space on the map all the parameter values got blank there's noting on the map, it would be great if you can share the fix for this issue

    Hey Andy, thank you so much for the video!
    This 2-level drill down visual works fine on my Tableau Desktop, however, when I publish it to Tableau Public, when I click the postal code and try to go back to state map, the visual splits into two (state and postal code visuals) instead of one (state visuals). I'm wondering if there is any fix to this?

      @BunchheanChhiv Рік тому +3

      hey I just solved the problem by creating a new calculation field which is State Selected by giving the value to (State Parameter != ' '). Then on the dashboard just click on the Postal code chart --> click on control visibility using value --> Choose State Selected. It'll work fine.

    Thanks so much! Question for you- is it possible to set this "filtering" based on zoom? So that you don't have to click a state to see the state-level zip code data? I would like to be able to zoom in and see areas that are at the intersection of a few states.

    • @vizwiz
      @vizwiz  8 місяців тому

      Not that I know of because you wouldn’t be filtering the data, you’d only be zooming.

  • @DanShepherd-h8h

    I made a version based on this video that worked on tableau public desktop but when it was saved to tableau public it didn't clear out the zip code map on return to states. Seemed I was missing something to get the DZV to work right, so I bought the download and "ah ha!" a State Selected calculated field is the missing link. Works now on Public, not sure why it works on desktop without it.

    I've done literally everything the same but my map won't zoom. Messes the whole thing up.
    Would really like a response bc right now I'm worse off than I was bc now people are expecting a map when I had a perfectly decent bar chart drilldown.

    • @vizwiz
      @vizwiz  Рік тому +1

      Make sure you have changed your worksheet actions to dashboard actions. Also make sure the map isn’t pinned.
      Otherwise, if you follow the steps exactly, it will 100% work.

    • @ShawnSpence-v7r
      @ShawnSpence-v7r Рік тому

      unpinned, still doesn't really work. Now centers an area between Alaska and California, and when clicked zooms to lower 48, not the state. Centering on lower 48 being the reason why it was pinned, of course. Looks like actions were always dashboard actions so I'm not sure why that's being presented as an exception.@@vizwiz

      Here's one for 3 levels. This uses a scatterplot, but there no reason you can't follow the exact same steps for a map.

      That means you are missing a boolean calculation that controls the visibility.
