But, she could just look at a doily for a few minutes and she could make one just like it. She was amazing. Born in 1926, died in 2009. I still miss her. She would have LOVED your channel. Thank you very much for the basic size chart for afghans and all the stitches of the week. I do a lot of prayer squares and baby wraps for hospitals and it is nice to have different stitch patterns to use.

It took a lot of work putting this all together. I thank you for it. One thing I'm having trouble with is knowing how many chains to crochet. If I wanted a 36x48 lapghan I have no idea how to figure out how many chains to do. It's driving me crazy...

depending on your needle but i believe with a G hook there is 4 chains per inch so multiple that times the inches across and you should be real close. but i would do a test swatch to see how many it would be better to try that.
Hello Laurie, First a queen size afghan should measure 66 x 84 inches , Then you need to find the ripple pattern you are going to use and if the instructions gives you the gauge then you need to figure your chain based on the size hook and gauge your going to be using, so it is hard to tell someone what to chain without knowing the gauge. Say the gauge is 16 sts = 4 inches you would divide 16 by 4 which tells you when you crochet this pattern with this gauge every 4 stitches equal 1 inch, so if you need a afghan 66 inches wide you would take 66 inches x 4 stitches per inch = you would chain 264. This is just an example not what you would do. If the stitch pattern does not have the gauge listed then you need to do a sample swatch of a few inches to get your gauge.
