Maybe this is just me being a A's fan and being a huge fan of Eric Chavez, but I don't think he's really that bad of a choice. Sure, he isn't the most well known player but he still had some really good seasons at that point. Yeah he never made an all star appearance, but he played for the A's, a team who was usually always under represented in the all star game. It's not the flashiest choice for a game cover, but I think he's still good enough to be a cover athlete
‘99. Cal Ripken Jr. is the GOAT of modern baseball. He was basically the poster child of what you want in a ball player who can succeed at multiple stats. Glad to see he’s part of the O’s owner group.
The Jazz Chisholm cover is definitely a fail but I suppose Wander Franco would have been an even more unfortunate choice. Hard to believe Trout never made it on.
Chisholm’s elevation may simply have been premature. Anyways, the reason Trout never got on the cover is because he was routinely great, instead of having a historic season to get special attention.
Regardless, it was nice to see a Marlin on the cover. Was always shocked that Sheffield circa-'96 or Miggy or Josh Beckett or D-Train or Mike Lowell circa-2003 didn't make a cover. Had Stanton stayed in Miami instead of getting traded to NY, 2017-18 would've been a good time. I did hear the rumors about Franco (a TB Ray) being also considered... what a bullet they dodged there. I'm shocked Randy Arozarena hasn't been considered, considering he's WAY MORE POPULAR w/ my Latin friends than Vlad Jr.
It didn't even occur to me that Mookie Betts hasn't been on the cover yet. Next to Trout and Ohtani, he's easily the best player of the past decade, and it's not even like he's had a bad couple years or something. If Mookie isn't on a cover by the time he's retired, MLB the show will be dumb dumbs for eternity.
My favorite MLB The Show cover is MLB 13. Why? 'Cause I went to high school with Andrew McCutchen. Good dude. Everything you think he is -- he is. So happy for his success and to win the N.L. MVP on the same year he was on The Show was truly a blessing.
The Show cover usually takes a player at their peak, and thus you’d expect them to decline almost immediately afterwards (the real foundation of the Madden curse). Yet there’s only two clear examples comparable to the infamous NFL game: Josh Donaldson is the best equivalent to your typical Madden cover athlete, an otherwise very good player coming off his career season where he won MVP. Yet he remained a valuable player through 2021, if increasingly limited by injuries and age. Javier Baez’s decline, though precipitous, was entirely predictable due to his horrid pitch recognition skills. He is the one true equivalent to Shane Alexander being on the cover of Madden 07.
Idk if it’s cheating or not but Legendary edition or whatever they’re called had Jeter and Jackie on the cover so shouldn’t they also have be mentioned???
Imagine putting somebody like Trout, Cole, Corbin Carroll, Alonso, Freeman, Kershaw, deGrom on the cover.. alas, it is 2024 and that isn't allowed anymore. Sad.
Kinda funny that Bonds was on the cover of MLB the Show then like 2 years later he became the first player to refuse to allow his likeness in the game at all because they wouldn't pay him. We all remember those Giants teams with names like Reggie Stocker on it instead of Bonds. I wonder if Bonds also refused to allow baseball card companies at the time (mid-2000's) to use his likeness as well since they don't pay either.
What is your favorite MLB The Show cover?
17. Because of the special edition metal Ken Griffey jersey cover
21 man tatis on top
21
Please come back!!!
Big miss never having Pujols or Trout on the cover
Trout is the cover athlete for the mobile baseball game “MLB 9 innings” that is why he is not on the cover for the main games.
MVP had pujols on the cover
Pujols was The Bigs 1 (2007) cover athlete so maybe he couldn’t be MLBTS athlete

Agree! He was a excellent 3rd sacker who just had bad luck and injuries. Dude was a vacuum cleaner on defense and a solid bat!
Agreed. There was a solid 5 to 10 year period where Chavez was the best defensive third baseman in baseball.

And he holds a record that will NEVER be broken.

Shawn Green is one of the most underrated guys. His 4 home run game broke baseball
'06 David Ortiz is just such a classic cover, it was my entry point into the series and has some great nostalgia value. My personal favourite
Ken Griffey cover had to have been the best one. The iconic swing with the backwards cap is just beutiful
Big miss on the Judge take. I can name like five clear worse MVP snubs than Judge in 2017, two of them belong to JuanGon.
The "Well played Mauer" bit is still the GOAT
I'm a Phillies fan so i really have 2 options, but I'm taking Harp

Aye put some respect on the legend that is Eric Chavez
Show 11 was so ahead of its time
Why didn't you make any new videos

I wish they put Lars Nootbaar on the cover.
I agree on Chaz, not a bad player, but the cover seemed to sell out to non baseball enthusiast.
Shoot if they chose jazz last year they could’ve had Esteury this year and it’d be more understandable than Vadi.
Mauer is in the HOF 😊
That is not Eric Chavez is Scott Hatteberg🤦🏻♂️
Great video, really gotta work on the vocal fry though
Idk if it’s cheating or not but Legendary edition or whatever they’re called had Jeter and Jackie on the cover so shouldn’t they also have be mentioned???
What happened to this channel?
Do a Francisco Lindor video
I actually have MLB 2000
Fuck yes do this for every game 😂
Imagine putting somebody like Trout, Cole, Corbin Carroll, Alonso, Freeman, Kershaw, deGrom on the cover.. alas, it is 2024 and that isn't allowed anymore. Sad.
Clayton Kershaw should've been on the cover for one of those Joe Mauer years.
What do I pick, this or church.
Church prob
this
I figured
This
Church is a scam so
First like

No because I definitely have some Bonds cards from that time frame
