Todd Ison Some horses were wild and are being sold, practically a profit. And some horses may have had an injury in the past life. Bloodlines could have failed also. Most horses going up for auction, u want to check their legs for strength and to make sure they don’t have an injury or I’ll be spending a lot ($1000-$3000) for a vet bill. I usually feel down the leg, and make sure it’s not swelling
Auctions are cheap because people take certain risks when buying, for example not knowing the horse's full history/possible health implications just like the bay. They also tend to sell more youngstock, unbroken or completely untouched horses where sellers just want to make a quicker profit rather than keep and train to sell privately which takes months/years. A great place for people like Megan who buy to sell, provided you know what to look for.
Suave Nini yes I know that but most of them will snack a bit. And I was saying they he just looked so so broken with his head down. I rescued two horses from auction who were headed to slaughter. One was a thoroughbred and the other an all black beautiful quarter horse. And they had already been sold to the meat truck when I saw them and I ended up paying him twice what he paid to get them. I’m sure he pocketed the extra. Anyhow when I got them home it was so easy to see they had been hit a lot. But they relaxed and went in pasture and their nice warm stall with a foot of soft straw lol. But anyhow when they had been there quite a few months and gained weight and health, they would follow me all over the place. So I decided to saddle up the thoroughbred and he was amazing to ride. And so was the quarter horse. They knew I loved them so much and wasn’t ever going to hurt them. Had the carrier out two days after I got them home and the vet the same day. And they give me such joy. Many times I think that they rescued me. Not the other way around. I tell them all my secrets every day while eating. Sorry for the long message. It just warms my heart to see abused animals saved.
The black mare was only 4 year old and she was fine when I looked at her she was just hasn’t been handed a lot but she was happy enough when I was looking at her before auction he owner was a lovely man also I don’t know how you looked up the results up as they haven’t posted then yet
I would have run straight to the Thoroughbreds. Oh shoot! If I had money and land, all the Thoroughbreds would have come home with me. That's why I don't go to sales.
Auction horses are often deemed as not high enough quality or health to sell privately (depending on the auction you go to). Many people dump sick, injured, young, old, weak, medically problematic, green and etc horses at auction and dont care about where they go. They also sometimes receive horses from people who passed away family who dont know enough or cant sell.
This is totally how I’m going to buy my first horse when I’m older. They are my life, but I’m not as involved as a lot of other young riders, because most of them grow up around horses, I’ve loved them all my life, but my parents don’t really. I promise myself every day that I’ll get a horse when I’m older. I love them and I absolutely love riding :)
That’s how I got my first horse… I convinced my parents to let me get a horse for my birthday I only had $500 USD and I got my horse cino for $475 I’m so happy to have her
That Shettie would be coming home with me. Id be dangerous at an auction. It is scary some of the prices these horses are going for. Great if you know what you're doing but so many horses are being dumped on charities or worse that its concerning that anyone can pick up a throughbred for £100

Giorgia Daniela Zonelli sarcoids are like growths that can come up really anywhere on the horses body which can turn cancerous i believe. They have to be removed by a vet, cut out and stitched up. It also may have failed the vet check for another reason. Correct me if I'm wrong on any of the above^ Becky decided not to buy it last time for that reason, and now it was for sale at the auction again...but that a basic explanation
yes so that is because in England, there our loads of wild and broken in horses and ponies. It is the home of our sport. In USA horse- back riding isn't too popular which results in limited horses and ponies in each auction/sale. People in USA would rather keep the horses and ponies as they are expensive compared to England. Whereas in England since there are a ton of horses and ponies, people can give their horses and ponies for auction if they don't need them, don't ride them etc. Basically, in other words if you have more of something the lesser the value is and if you have less of something, the more the value is. Yes, carry on auction blogging It's good to see what is out there! I've previously brought 2 horses from Tattersalls a piebald cob mare who was my mares companion stay at home companion when I was away competing and the other was a retired because sudden total refusal to go forward anymore with a rider! He was a (ruined) 17yr old Prix St George Danish warmblood dressage horse (wish I could upload photo's). Was only planning to come away with a Welsh pony that day but after hearing this gelding's story and the fact the person selling told me that the owner will be giving him to the meat man if he wasn't sold that day, he was also a crib biter and hadn't apparently had any interest in him 😥but there was something about him that I couldn't walk away from, and my gut was telling me buy him buy him buy him... alright then I will and I did! I paid £95 him! He was the deal of a lifetime and what a horse he was it makes me well up just thinking about him! He was an emotional wreck but when some heavy-handed bloke had beat you every day since you were 7yrs old and rode you into a dripping sweat and used to collapse to his knees then go down flat out with all his tack still on I'd be a mess as well! This bloke had apparently been thrown off of so many yards for riding that poor horse the way he did that no one could bear to watch it anymore and the reason for putting him in the auction was because no livery round his area would take him!
@JRRnotTolkien you csnt call that out for every auction house across the country even so there's nothing wrong with slaughter as long as done humanely. No difference from a cow pig or sheep
@@Ella-banfield there's nothing wrong with slaughter at all as long as it's done HUMANLEY the yanks suck and monitoring this but UK and quite a few countries in Europe are inspected on a regular basis to make sure very thing is humane. There's no difference from slaughtering a horse for meat to slaughtering a pig, chicken, sheep or cow etc. I wouldn't eat horse but other countries see them as a food source and we don't have the right to judge that! India for example don't eat beef.... They eat horse instead.

8:53 omg that chestnut gelding IS my dream horse 😭😭😩😩
The one at 20:36 caught my eye immediately! I hope they went to a great home.
Loved it!!!!! Well done guys for not buying any ponies!! Xx
I think that a lot of the horses are amazing but people do over sell them, but there are beautiful horses at the sales ❤️
Poor things probably end up moving from place to place or being used for meat.
I've never sold any of my auction ponies 😂 don't speculate it makes you look foolish
@JRRnotTolkien you csnt call that out for every auction house across the country even so there's nothing wrong with slaughter as long as done humanely. No difference from a cow pig or sheep
Louise Jane omg are you crazy. Everything is wrong with slaughter. Especially to horses. They all have a purpose.
Louise Jane I strongly disagree. Usually I say I respect your opinion but slaughter is disgusting. The time mainly horses and cows spend stuck in pens unable to move is revolting.
I love the Hereford sales😂
I love these videos i cant wait for the next one ☺💖💖🐴🐴
Bidding starts at 12:00
I love going to the sales. I have a lot of saddles myself.
I love your videos Megan xx
That auction looks a lot better than any of the ones near wear I live you would never see a beautiful chestnut sell that cheap
I love horse auctions… I got my gorgeous paint mare at auction because that’s all I could afford… she is a wonderful first horse… she put me through the ringer though.
I’m getting a second horse hopefully this November but this time I’m choosing to. I have enough money to buy a “good” horse but I like to think I’m saving them from going to a bad home or a kill pen when I get them from the auction.❤🐴🐴
That chestnut gelding was gorgeous. For just 100 pounds. Wow.
I really love the auction vlogs would love to see more.
