Great video Darren, very cool to see your bus like that, I was a bit disappointed that your fridge didn't have any beer in it🤣. I'm looking forward to the other videos. Take care and see you soon buddy🤙
Nice little rig Darren... Can't go too much bigger than that and still be able to use it on the regular... Everything you need in a compact package. :D
Hey Darren, looks like you don't have a red bike carrier number plate. You can order a number plate for your bike carrier the same as your car, so you don't have to keep on changing the number plate from car to bike. Only 20 CHF from the Strassenverkehrsamt.
Something else that I just haven’t got round to sorting out 😉. So far, swapping the number plate over seems like less hassle than ordering the plate and making the journey to go and pick it up.
@@TrailTrackerSwitzerland I was immediately switching to the new plate, it is super easy, you can order in online very simple and they charge you 20 CHF or so and send it to you after 6 weeks.
@@TrailTrackerSwitzerland nah mate they’ll send it to you by post 👍 I lost mine off the back of the bike rack once so happy with the red plate to stay on permanently and eventually those bloody plastic clips from Thule will break.
Nice, i just sold my T5 transporter, because the Finnish road traffic law and taxation is really brutal, I was thinking to make the van like that too, but I didn't.
Nice one Darren… I’ve been looking at electric vans for in a few years time and I’ve seen a vw that invokes the look of the old kombi camper which I really love. Still only a concept but 🤞🏼will be a reality in the next few years
Is this the one you've bee eying up Dave (ua-cam.com/video/7q0mQ-9_gSY/v-deo.html) ? I think it'll need some more development and massive investment in charging infrastructure before it's able to deal with the sort of distances you guys drive.
@@TrailTrackerSwitzerland watching the full video it sounds it would need to be a bit longer. Our new government are starting to push infrastructure for electric vehicles so in the next 5 years that should be well on the way
@@TrailTrackerSwitzerland i know they are good cars, but in my opinion too overpriced because of the camping hype. thats a bit of a shame. i was looking into a Fiat or Ford and they are kind of the same but more powe and extras for less money. but iam still not shure...
Hang on, somebody with the same van and hitch was parked at the bottom of the Arlesheim trails all weekend. Am I going to see my home trail on your channel?
Ohhh perfect! I've just ordered a California Ocean some weeks ago (because the additional price to the Beach was bareley none...) You're happy with the Clothes Pockets? Whats the consumtions of the van when you let's say drive to Lenzerheide or Chur?
The VanEssa pockets have been great. There is enough space for all my clothes for a two week trip and considering how much they've been used, they're still in really good condition. On average, over the last 4 years, the van has used somewhere around 8l/100km. Hope you enjoy the Ocean 😎
Really good video! Something different, and very interesting at that! Slightly envious of your setup tbh... 😉 Also, so far I hadnt even realized you had your own Bike van... What I've always been wondering about vans with a rack: so what do you do with your bikes when you park somewhere without riding them (you probably ride only 1 bike at a time anyway I suppose 😄)? Leave them on the rack? Also, the most important thing about a bike van seems to be bags. Got it.
Thanks Jay. If I have to leave one bike behind I take the wheels off and put it in the van and pull all the blinds down so you can’t see in. That’s why you need sheets and towels to keep everything clean in the van 😉
Two road bikes inside the van is not a viable option i think ? I am spending a lot of time investing but i fear that cycling and a california are just not a match. Outside is just not a solution for me.
If you try and fit two bikes inside, you’d be limiting your living space far too much. Better to go for a bigger van if you want to keep the bikes inside. I’ve done just that and it is far less stressful when parking up and leaving the bikes in the vehicle.

Sorry, I’d drunk all the beer 🍻

Yeah the fridge was surprisingly empty! Half expected to see some weird british food, or a guiness or sth 😄

Anything bigger would be completely impractical as a daily driver and to be honest it’s pretty spacious for just one person.
Looks so cool 🤩👍
Thanks dude. It works really well for me.
Love your Van Setup, pretty similar to mine! I also use it as my every day car for the family.
It’s a great car, but parts and servicing are ridiculously expensive in Switzerland. I’ve been having A/C problems, which have cost a fortune!
@@TrailTrackerSwitzerland That's why I opted for a Citroen this time. Benn driving a VW for ten years, but service cost always was a pain in the ass.
Cool van, that’s the perfect setup in my opinion too. Thanks for sharing
Thanks dude. For one person it’s ideal. For two it can start to get a bit cramped after a couple of days though.

I hear that running any type of car is pretty expensive in Finland, so I can imagine that the costs of running a van could easily be a deal killer.

Thanks! Driving in the rain is when my bikes get cleaned 🤣🤣

where do you leave your bikes at night when camping? outside?
I used to lock them to the car with a very big chain. But now I’ve got a bigger van and can keep them inside.
how was the journey back on Monday?
Long, but thankfully far less eventful than my journey to the UK
