Hey willy is good to see you doing your thing. it was good seeing you with Hank but is great to see you doing your own thing I hope is working out for you
Nice running truck, especially with 1,18 million miles on it. Great that you give Jacob a driving lesson as well. That second Volvo truck started, like it was parked up yesterday, Good quality engine.
Amazing that engine has done over a million miles and it still sounds so good! I remember dropping a wrench across a battery once, it was a terrifying experience with all the sparking.
I dropped my dad's longest screwdriver on his trolling motor battery and it hit both polls perfectly and stuck. The center immediately began to glow, quickly spreading toward each end. I grabbed the plastic handle and popped it off, but bent the screwdriver about 30 degrees doing it. There is a LOT of power there!!
Another will it start successful job! I love that big smile on your face, Wiley when they start up 😂. You and Jacob make a great team. Great video. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks. It was very interesting. I don't know much. But I enjoyed watching Father and Sons working together and not beating each other up, or yelling at each other in uncivilized tones. (At least not on the camera). Keep up the good work teaching others!
6:52 I've done quite a few PMs on VNLs with that engine in my time as a Penske and Goodyear CTSC greasemonkey. They have both. So does that Freightshaker, for that matter. The DAVCO unit is more a fuel water seperator than an actual filter and the fine filtering is done by the spin-on. The spin-on is changed with every oil filter change, the DAVCO only changed when the level of fuel in the housing reaches the 'change' line on the dome. It's pretty standard and I'd all but guarantee you'll find one on every single one of these newer trucks you've bought. If you were to put one back on the road, given how long these trucks have sat, I would change the both fuel filters as well as do a full engine PM.
Willy those are fuel water separators. It has a fuel filter to. you will have 3 or 4 canister type filters under the engine. They are particulate filters. And Oil filters. Fuel water separators are next level for keeping your fuel clean . I would also add some algicide in that fule. If you have one that is starving for fuel . There is a little ball on the outlet side of that fuel water separator that some times will get Algae on it and restrict fuel flow. Just clean the little ball and it will seat and work again (if you ever have that problem) . Also Volvo engines have a manual fuel pump primer on them to help get fuel up to the pump. God bless !
I am not going to fly back there to teach him how to shift. But I remember when I learned to drive in a 1970 KW conventional with a 318 Detroit and a 13 spd Roadranger transmission. I learned never to touch the clutch when I was driving. But when you take a CDL skills test they want you to double clutch that is a waste of effort. It just takes patients to learn how to shift. I had nice gentleman taught me that you don`t have to rev up the engine when first start the truck moving. He said if the cab rocks to the side that is too much throttle and too much torque. And that makes it difficult to shift. Thank you for another nice video.
Whoa! That was some sparks for sure!! Hope you're OK, Wiley. I dropped a wrench across the terminals once and it burned the wrench and melted the lead posts. Good to see this one running again!! Thanks for sharing!
Nice to see a father and son team getting things done every vehicle has its own quirks Jacob did good on his run with ur knowledge is passed down as it should be I envy u and Jacob my dad and I just started to click just b4 he passed wish I could do this with him like u do 😢👍👌
Over here in the uk Wiley there`s still quite a few Volvo `s with the same D12 engine as that same age or older still in front line service Anybody who buys it and looks after it proper it`ll do another million miles easy
As you know it’s usually not the engine that breaks the bank. All the little stuff that nickel and dimmed you back years ago cost 100’s now Thanks for watching
Great video. Glad your letting him drive. Fist truck I ever drove 69 international cab over. 318 Detroit with 18 speed. It was the beginning of a good career.
Jacob on a big truck the clutch is for stopping a starting not shifting get the RPM’s right an it’ll slide in every time but hey not to bad for your first time.
You make my day Wiley love the videos more people need to subscribe and I hope people get there cheque books out I would but I'm in the UK keep trucking good buddy😊👍
Another couple of trucks you got running, good to hear those diesel engines turn over. I was concerned with the batteries started sparking, fortunately you got it under control!
First big truck I drove was an older than dirt white triaxle with no power steering. It was a site truck so very ruff. Shook so bad I couldn't see anything with the mirrors. Then I got stuck on a steel concrete filled pole backing up, right between the tires. Good times.
Old Volvo s never die! Make someone a good old truck with minimal investment. As far as the model these are VNL 660 which the 66 means the length of the sleeper. There also was a VNL 770 model which was the 77 inch sleeper bunk. These are the raised roof models and they made a mid roof in the 66 inch sleeper. A quick explanation of the models. I hope someone picks up on these for a good cheap starter truck.
remind him when he shifts he needs to double clutch but dont go all the way down like a car. if you go all the way down too much you can blow the clutch brake apart. other than that great to see these trucks being saved. drove a VNL with a series 60 and 10 spd for a while and it rode smooth.
Hank sent me over and I subed. Good content from salt of the Earth people. Pretty nice old truck, someone will be able to use it for a long time still--
I would love to have the truck if I had the money to travel one last time before retiring to cover the forty eight states the challenge to get the high side of the gears and the truck looks good and clean well maintained.
Bye Golly, Jacob sure got the Hang of Spraying that Cosby Sauce til She got Fuel to the Rail, Straight to Floating Gears on the Grassy Highway. Hats off to you Sir. Wiley, ain’t no need to Fret about a Little Perspiration, if the Viewers not understanding of the Humidity of the South they are the Fortunate Son! I can’t take the Damned Humility 😂 either. Got me in a Good chuckle at yourself with you
The shift pattern if its a Eaton Fuller could be split or a attaight ten with the shift is close together like going up or down depending on the splitter if its on the f
Tell Jacob not to worry about crashing a few gears Willie Nelson did it in his tour bus movie Honeysuckle Rose he said we had to put rubber gears in this next time lol
Lol I told him later he was over accelerating was one reason he was grinding them He ask why didn’t you say something. You have to learn that. Next time you will know Thanks for watching
My daughter is a manager for Harbor freight I keep on her about sponsoring you but it's out of her hands the majority of my tools are Harbor freight and I have only broke a 13/16 1/2 inch socket but I had a breaker bar and a cheater pipe on it but when it busted all I had to do was take it to the store and they replaced it

As always, Wiley, another great video, one thing, be careful, spraying ether into the Volvos. They have grid heaters.

Lister.. ine not to put in a trade mark - swag or spray it on the arms and legs - prevent bug bites. Tough on the mouth and bugs hate it.
that d12 sounds good for sitting
It was a far more reliable engine than the D13 that they’re using now. The D13 is the most expensive engine to maintain in class 8 trucks.
Well at least he is learning on newer stuff. Hydraulic clutch and air assisted shift
Back in the day
Thanks for watching
Sparky!
Wily please teach him how to float the gears
Enjoy your videos
Wow Wiley don't need no defibrillator he just uses batteries 😅
Its a volvo I knew it would start. Heck its only a little over a million miles.

Love ya vids wily 😁
In his defense, there's probly alot of slop in the gear shift bushings after a bazillion miles
My daughter is a manager for Harbor freight I keep on her about sponsoring you but it's out of her hands the majority of my tools are Harbor freight and I have only broke a 13/16 1/2 inch socket but I had a breaker bar and a cheater pipe on it but when it busted all I had to do was take it to the store and they replaced it
Thanks for the thought
